I heard Kony 2013 will be way better.

[–]slimmtl 118 points119 points ago

Forget Kony, like to make a difference.

[–]rosenrot83 30 points31 points ago

Do upvotes work in the same manner?

[–]slimmtl 67 points68 points ago

Yes, yes... Now is time for the generous redditors to donate their upvotes

[–]HigherFive 30 points31 points ago

[–]nukalurk 18 points19 points ago

No. March 2nd, I believe was the day reddit went full retard. "Faces of r/atheism".

Edit: Can anyone verify that it was March 2nd?

[–]HigherFive 5 points6 points ago

I think I vaguely remember being glad that I was busy enough to miss most of that.

[–]AdmiralHairdo 3 points4 points ago

Could someone link that? I always hear about it, have no idea what it is.

[–]nukalurk 2 points3 points ago

I'm actually having a hard time finding any links to any of the threads, but basically people on /r/atheism posted dramatic pictures of themselves along with some really conceited, circlejerk-ish caption. Here's a fun game... google image search "faces of atheism" and guess which ones are real and which are satire.

Edit: I'm stupid, I should've thought to do this earlier. I just searched "faces of atheism" in the /r/atheism subreddit. Link for the lazy

[–]bukkits 1 point2 points ago

Seconded

[–]IronDickNick 2 points3 points ago

All self posts, no karma, smartass.

[–]HigherFive 8 points9 points ago

What if I told you that karma is just an indication of how popular (and liked) a post is and thus anyone who places any value on how much karma, rather than how much attention their post gets, is an idiot.

[–]AllNamesAreGone 0 points1 point ago

The second has 10 dollars for each upvote

Assuming he's counting the number of upvotes and not up-down, that's nearly $650000. (I realize the number is fudged for anti-vote-bot things, but still)

I'm sure he did that.

[–]jokersbrother 0 points1 point ago

That was my birthday... I feel like a part of the karma whoring

[–]HigherFive 1 point2 points ago

It's okay, lil nigga, it wasn't your fault.

[–]jokersbrother 1 point2 points ago

Have a high five negrito

[–]wallplant 0 points1 point ago

this wasnt one day this went on for like a week.

[–]TheMEnigma 0 points1 point ago

Yeah but.. No karma for self posts?

[–]HigherFive 1 point2 points ago

What if I told you that karma is just an indication of how popular (and liked) a post is and thus anyone who places any value on how much karma, rather than how much attention their post gets, is an idiot.

[–]ExxL 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, except its golden water

[–]_XxDerpyHoovesxX_ 1 point2 points ago

There's a gif of that that kicks ass.

[–]Krony 6 points7 points ago

yes this will be truth since i am Krony 2013

[–]Dr_Thomas_Roll 1 point2 points ago

Meh, nothing works right since Kony 95.

[–]diabeetis_moustache 0 points1 point ago

time for a new scause

[–]farmthis 39 points40 points ago

Even through all those weeks of bullshit, I didn't watch it. Surely there are others like me.

[–]bitemydickallthetime 13 points14 points ago

I got in a fight with my girlfriend over it. She insisted it was important. I refused to watch it.

[–]dingleberry23432 3 points4 points ago

those are my favorite fights

[–]ONXwat 2 points3 points ago

I bet you had a field day when he got caught jackin' it in san diego...

[–]frayuk 11 points12 points ago

I could smell the bullshit right off the bat with Kony 2012. It became huge so quickly that it took a couple days for people to start calling bullshit though. Next thing you know the guy's masturbating in the streets and today it's just a bad memory.

[–]tehskanksta12 1 point2 points ago

what exactly was the BS? No sarcasm or anything I really just never paid attention while it was happening? Was it a scam for money or something?

[–]akharon 3 points4 points ago

The conflict had been over for literally years.

[–]nukalurk 2 points3 points ago

Yes, but they still haven't found Joseph Kony. I think the whole Kony 2012 thing was to "raise awareness" to find him. Still complete bs, but as of 2011, he was number 9 on the world's top ten most wanted.

[–]tehskanksta12 1 point2 points ago

Oh okay. Why did they make it then?

[–]akharon 3 points4 points ago

They got a fuckton of donations until Nakie McWanderson decided to go for a walk.

[–]Your_Sista 4 points5 points ago

You're not alone friend

[–]prestondoom 3 points4 points ago

I didn't watch either. I don't know how but I've avoided it so well that I have no idea what it is or why it turned into a big joke.

[–]KramericaCEO 253 points254 points ago

[–]P_Charming 57 points58 points ago

This is probably his reaction to hearing that the guy who started it all got caught masterbating in public

[–]RedditRossG 8 points9 points ago

[–]UberRockTroll 5 points6 points ago

Edit: That is amazing. TMZ actually did something akin to reporting.

[–]POPEFUCKER 4 points5 points ago

Albeit accidentally

[–]mooseclomas -1 points0 points ago

They shut the whole reporting thing down because it was being legitimately raped?

[–]CSharpSauce 0 points1 point ago

and thus concluding a great week

[–]FyslexicDuck 1 point2 points ago

It's the genocidal Ugandan dictator of the 1970s, ""His Excellency President for Life, Field Marshal Alhaji Dr. Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, CBE" from the award winning documentary Idi Amin Dada. In fact, he's laughing at the interviewer's question: "is it true that you said Hitler did not kill enough Jews?". For real.

[–]Mighty72 105 points106 points ago

That's actually Idi Amin, not Kony. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idi_Amin

[–]pig_is_pigs 223 points224 points ago

Yep. This is Kony.

[–]remhawk99 -5 points-4 points ago

How could they not? It's called parenting, people.

[–]D0J0 3 points4 points ago

So, this is a gif of Idi Amin Dada laughing his ass off at Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd? That's Daffy!

[–]StewieNZ 0 points1 point ago

[–]wolvmatt 0 points1 point ago

We don't even know yet. The election isn't until Tuesday. He could still win it.

[–]RNRSaturday 2 points3 points ago

On the upside, while we didn't stop Kony, we did get to see video of a guy masturbating in the street.

[–]Evil_Cockblocker 29 points30 points ago

[–]mkubena 5 points6 points ago

And we all thought someone would hire "The Expendables" to take care of the situation. Well man, that really sucked.

[–]jabb0[S] 3 points4 points ago

Indeed, the guy that made the video went crazy and I think he is still institutionalized.

[–]nukalurk 1 point2 points ago

Jackin' it in San Diego

[–]funkydo 1 point2 points ago

Not at all. He was on Oprah (google), and just released a new video, I found (google).

[–]mkubena -5 points-4 points ago

running around naked!!!!

[–]wiz_witout -1 points0 points ago

thats crazy!!!!

[–]Cronon94 5 points6 points ago

I knew that that Kony bullshit would blow over pretty fast. I just had no idea it would end by public masterbation

[–]inanecathode 4 points5 points ago

[–]Tetelesthai 0 points1 point ago

Haha, I want to upvote mooooooooooore!

[–]Campin 18 points19 points ago

UPVOTE THIS POST TO BRING HIM TO JUSTICE!!11!

[–]CuntMcFuckGiggles -2 points-1 points ago

He looks to be a decent sized buck.....can we just put him in chains and force him to pick cotton? We're really wasting his talents here if he's not doing heavy back breaking manual labor for 18 hours every day.

[–]chk_chk 12 points13 points ago

The Kony 2012 campaign is Evangelical Christian propaganda by stealth. Unfortunately Jason Russell gives zero fucks about the Ugandan people or child soldiers.

The end result of bullshitting millions of people around the world is mental breakdown.

I'd recommend against following his actions. If you are going to take money and credit for assisting people or being charitable, at least provide some assistance. Oh, and try not to whack it in public.

Edit: 2nd video verification. Removed second unverified video , does not appear there are any apartments that look like that near to the corner shown in the first video.

[–]beener 9 points10 points ago

Right, he gave absolutely zero fucks. Didn't give one iota of caring. Sure it was a stupid fucking campaign but holy crap you need to be less cynical.

[–]chk_chk 7 points8 points ago

Or for you to be more skeptical. There are many people around the world doing real helpful work for others in need. I support them wholeheartedly.

[–]beener -2 points-1 points ago

And that doesn't mean he "gives zero fucks". He might give less fucks than them, and he certainly is much less helpful, but to say he gives zero is a bit ridiculous.

[–]chk_chk 6 points7 points ago

Invisible Children currently seems to focus more on covert missionary work in Uganda than assisting children caught up in the LRA.

I am pointing out that all the talk about child soldiers and the need to help them may only be a convenient front to keep the donations rolling in.

I feel sorry for the people conned out of their money and for the guy Jason, he seems to have had a lot of illusions about his situation and they could not stand up to outside scrutiny by the Press, hence the mental collapse.

Moral of this story is to investigate any charities that you are planning to give to. Sites like these, among others, can make that easier:

[–]beener -5 points-4 points ago

Clearly you have not read my comments. Never mind.

[–]i__am__me -2 points-1 points ago

...from Reddit.

[–]cheeserail 0 points1 point ago

I fucking LOVE this gif

[–]Knutrh 2 points3 points ago

Here's the video if you haven't seen it.

[–]LurkerTriumphant 0 points1 point ago

Likes on Facebook don't do anything, Invisable Children may be very poorly managed, but it's not like Kony isn't a horrible war criminal who belongs in the Hague.

[–]Carg72 2 points3 points ago

Isn't that Idi Amin?

[–]seriously-akward10 5 points6 points ago

Apparently someone from the KONY 2012 program came to my school yesterday. I had to laugh that some of my friends still support this.

[–]Droneling -1 points0 points ago

I was so pissed off that they came to my school. All of my guy friends agreed that it was all a bunch of bull shit. Almost no guys in my school agreed with it, only the females did. By that I mean around 500 females showed up to hear the Invisible Children people talk, while only 10 guys went. All of the guys were my friends and we just went to prove points to our female friends that insisted on us going. Such a waste of time.

[–]BabyNinjaJesus 0 points1 point ago

shortly after the kony thing started a girl from uganda posted a video explaining how the whole thing was BS, find it, link it, suddenly no more bs

its just another facebook bandwagon; the current one is that suicide bitch some amanda chick; wah wah wah she killed herself cos she got bashed because she slept with some girls BF

meanwhile casey got bullied and fucked his bully up and got on tv and a fuckton of confidence from it, and he doesnt get shit for attention

[–]lovegunsauce 3 points4 points ago

I hear Disney is thinking about buying the Kony franchise

[–]PedoJones 5 points6 points ago

Star wars: The Child Wars

[–]Trapline 2 points3 points ago

This is so fresh and relevant!

[–]Tearill 1 point2 points ago

I learned that invisible children is still a thing, they came and visited a school i was observing, they even had a class watch a video for it too.

[–]WeHaveMetBefore 0 points1 point ago

Don't give up hope guys, Kony needs your vote!

[–]stevem83 0 points1 point ago

I am pretty sure, even though that naked surfer guy is a moron, this is still wrong.

[–]ThestolenToast 1 point2 points ago

It's a sad day when 1300 people up vote the man that was responsible for the death of over 10,000 Ugandans in 1985

[–]GlassLungs -1 points0 points ago

you know how laughter is contagious? well...

[–]schizodepressed 2 points3 points ago

So because everyone liked Kony 2012, Idi Amin took over Uganda in the 60's?

Or can reddit just not tell black people apart?

[–]Ozymandias98 0 points1 point ago

There was this stand for Kony 2012 at my school a month ago. Later in that day someone taped a picture of Rigby from regular show going "This is a HUUUGE scam!" on the front of it.

[–]devilishlaughter 0 points1 point ago

And all i can think about is...My Little Kony. Pony 2012.

[–]CuntMcFuckGiggles -1 points0 points ago

Can someone give me directions to the village that nigger lives in? I'd like to send a ship to take him and the rest of his villagers back to America. I will start a lawn mowing service that will undercut the illegal alien mexicans, thereby forcing a good portion of them out of business and back to their home country of mexico.

Then I need to set a good example for all of America and ship the niggers back to their home country.

[–]xenodius 0 points1 point ago

When I started telling one of my friends how my brother is planning on going to south Sudan with some of his police buddies and all their hardware (he'll take at least $15,000 worth of hardware with him) to bodyguard some of the establishments in the area from Kony's LRA, they said... "What's Kony?", this coming from the person whose facebook profile photo was a Kony 2012 picture for weeks during the whole rage. They'd honestly forgotten about it. So depressing. But I'm glad my brother is actually able to do something, though-- I'm just a scientist, he's the security specialist...

[–]DirkDiggler1977 0 points1 point ago

Is that Idi Amin?

[–]bananaswild 0 points1 point ago

These people came to my university and talked to us about how much it sucked for everyone to think it was a scam.

[–]apascal07 0 points1 point ago

I've seen this gif so many times on so many occasions and it still makes me chuckle.

[–]trolling_thunder 0 points1 point ago

That horse! I think it moved! BEAT IT AGAIN!

[–]Drutarg 0 points1 point ago

I actually saw a little girl at a restaurant wearing a KONY shirt. Couldn't have been older than fourteen.

[–]JohnCarpenterLives 0 points1 point ago

That's one good movie. General Idi Amin Dada, not that Kony shit. I didn't waste my time with that Kony shit.

[–]Icbm9802 0 points1 point ago

What was so funny in the middle of the river?

[–]Ladrix 0 points1 point ago

someone farted, it's funny all over the globe.

[–]JohnAdamZiolkowski 0 points1 point ago

I was both gullible and stupid enough to donate to Invisible Children, and let me tell you, it was a horrible mistake.

As soon as I found out it was a scam (the next day, since their website claimed that they never took my information, and I was never given a receipt or anything) I went to cancel my payment. They claimed they had no idea who I was, and that no charges were made.

Months later, they still charge me every month. I'm 200$ down now, and filing my third dispute with my credit card company (who claims they can't stop payments). I just recently gave up and cancelled my credit card, and will unlikely be reimbursed.

[–]funkydo 1 point2 points ago

Well, it's not a scam. https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=12429 . That aside, if you are being charged and don't want to donate, I suggest you call em (I do realize you tried to contact them, but perhaps try again). I bet you will get a response.

[–]raylime 1 point2 points ago

Doesn't their score of 0 for "Audited financials prepared by independent accountant" make all their other scores kinda worthless?

[–]funkydo 0 points1 point ago

Well, took me a few minutes, but finally realized you can click on the rating and find out what it means. Pretty irresponsible of you not to find out what a "0" means instead of a checkmark or x. "The charity's audited financials were prepared by an independent accountant, but it did not have an audit oversight committee. In this case, we deduct 7 points from the charity's Accountability and Transparency score."

I'm sure there are other ways to check to see if it's doing good work. I just found one listing.

https://www.bbb.org/us/article/kony-2012-video-sends-mixed-message-to-young-activists-33206

http://invisiblechildren.com/critiques/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisible_Children,_Inc.#Criticism

These are some starting points if you want to find out whether or not it's a scam (it does not appear to be, in looking at these links).

[–]raylime 1 point2 points ago

I don't know how asking a question for clarification made me look irresponsible. I asked because it seemed like you know, and there was no intention to offend.

[–]funkydo 0 points1 point ago

Ah I thought you were implying that a "0" does make their other scores worthless. I do say it took a long time to figure out how the site worked and I wouldn't have looked if you hadn't mentioned it. I just interpreted your post as negative. As a neutral question, it's not an irresponsible question.

[–]quickquestionrl -2 points-1 points ago

Fuck you you fucking faggot.

[–]CuntMcFuckGiggles -3 points-2 points ago

I was both gullible and stupid enough to....

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the average bleeding heart, self hating white liberal in America.

[–]indianofthegroup 1 point2 points ago

The late former dictator Idi Amin thinks it's funny? I don't get it. You make a joke about one war criminal by showing a gif of another? Cool dude.

[–]IAmAlmostCame 1 point2 points ago

actually, there isn't yet an end result, since efforts are ongoing:

'The resolution stated that it would back "the effort of Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic and the newest country, South Sudan, to stop Kony and his Lord's Resistance Army", along with an official statement of support "for the U.S. effort to help regional forces pursue commanders of the militia group." The resolution has received support from 37 bipartisan senators.[92][93]...

One of the resolution leaders, Senator Chris Coons, became aware of the situation after his daughters asked him what he was doing to stop Kony and Senator Roy Blunt was informed "at a Missouri caucus in St. Louis when a constituent quizzed him about Kony".

On March 23, 2012, the African Union announced its intentions to send an international brigade of 5,000 military troops "from Uganda, South Sudan, Central African Republic and Congo, countries where Kony’s reign of terror has been felt over the years ... to join the hunt for rebel leader Joseph Kony" and to "neutralize" him. According to the statement, the mission commences on March 24, 2012 and the search "will last until Kony is caught",[94] after which the task force will be disbanded.[34] The effort is Ugandan-led and backed by the U.S. with the 100 advisers already there, who are offering advice, intelligence and training, along with equipment.[95] The brigade has established its headquarters in Yambio in South Sudan, close to the border with the DRC, and is commanded by a Ugandan officer; a Congolese officer has oversight of intelligence operations.[96] The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) spokeswoman Melissa Fleming said the agency welcomed the "unprecedented" initiative to "end the atrocities in the region" and urged all involved to respect human rights and minimize risk to civilians.[97] The African Union's counter-terrorism envoy Francisco Madeira said, "We need to stop Kony."[34] The ICC chief prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo voiced confidence that the video will "produce the arrest of Joseph Kony this year," adding: "That is the impact of the campaign."[98] However, Patrick Wegner, an academic at the Max Planck Research School on Successful Dispute Resolution in International Law, claimed it was "plain wrong" to suggest the African Union action was prompted solely by Kony 2012, saying that "the idea is a lot older than the Kony 2012 video" as the plans for forming an anti-LRA regional military force have been first reported in international news media already in 2010.[99]'

So nice try distilling apathy towards Kony2012, but it had much further reaching consequences than you know.

Not sure is sarcastic..

Did you read that last bit? This professor is stating the African Union's anti-LRA force was taking root in 2010

The presence of some anti-LRA "plans" doesn't amount to much of anything. I have "plans" all the time, doesn't mean I do anything about them.

Yes, I'm aware of that. But considering the fragility of Africa's infrastructure, how long do you think it'll survive without assistance from the Kony 2012 outpouring? They'll appreciate the assistance that Senators Chris Coons and Roy Blunt are providing.

DID HE GET SAVED FROM THE KONY?

[–]Robotyc -2 points-1 points ago

I said this in a different thread, they only made that video so that troops could be sent over to "find Kony" but really they want troops over there to get the oil recently discovered in Uganda.
