The Kony 2012 campaign is Evangelical Christian propaganda by stealth. Unfortunately Jason Russell gives zero fucks about the Ugandan people or child soldiers.

The end result of bullshitting millions of people around the world is mental breakdown.

I'd recommend against following his actions. If you are going to take money and credit for assisting people or being charitable, at least provide some assistance. Oh, and try not to whack it in public.

When I started telling one of my friends how my brother is planning on going to south Sudan with some of his police buddies and all their hardware (he'll take at least $15,000 worth of hardware with him) to bodyguard some of the establishments in the area from Kony's LRA, they said... "What's Kony?", this coming from the person whose facebook profile photo was a Kony 2012 picture for weeks during the whole rage. They'd honestly forgotten about it. So depressing. I was both gullible and stupid enough to donate to Invisible Children, and let me tell you, it was a horrible mistake.

As soon as I found out it was a scam (the next day, since their website claimed that they never took my information, and I was never given a receipt or anything) I went to cancel my payment. They claimed they had no idea who I was, and that no charges were made.

Months later, they still charge me every month. I'm 200$ down now, and filing my third dispute with my credit card company (who claims they can't stop payments). I just recently gave up and cancelled my credit card, and will unlikely be reimbursed.

Wait are you kidding me? "The video has been viewed more than 91 million times as of 17 June 2012." Nothing to do with "likes." It has to do with people knowing (more) about something, namely, child soldiers and a particular war in Africa. The campaign has resulted in a resolution by the US Senate and contributed to the decision to send troops to stop the Lord's Resistance Army and Kony, by the African Union.

This is just wiki as a source but it seems to me this issue evolved: Massive campaign to highlight an atrocity that actually happened and happens, including massive popularity and uncritical support; and then had the filmmaker having a breakdown or something which I have actually no idea about apart from massive and uncritical public criticism. And then a sudden undoing of all the information that was gained through the initial documentary! Well man, the documentary, though possibly and probably flawed is not 100% untrue! The director though possibly flawed is not 100% wrong! Instead of forgetting everything you learned because there is criticism of it, learn new information. Cause the bulk of the issue is accurate and awful.

Senator Lindsey Graham: "When you get 100 million Americans looking at something, you will get our attention. This YouTube sensation is gonna help the Congress be more aggressive and will do more to lead to his demise than all other action combined." So this is not nothing. It's not perfect, but it's not nothing. Fact is, millions of people know more about an atrocity that takes place in the world because of "Kony 2012."
