Cursive is the work of Satan. Normally I like to defend archaic things for their historical value but cursive seems to have no purpose besides making your writing impossible to read and torturing school children into learning something they will never use.

Cursive is for the old school note takers. Before taking notes on a laptop people had to write their notes in a notebook with a pen or pencil. Often times it was difficult to keep up writing the lecture in print so a lot of major points would be forgotten by the student, simply because he or she could not write fast enough. Therefore a new form of writing style evolved into what we now know as cursive.

But really, I don't know if this is fact of why cursive developed but I'm assuming it was. Being that most my professors don't allow laptops or tablet books in the class during their lecture, due to students abusing the privilege, I write all my notes in cursive. It's messy and only legible to me but Its the only way I can keep up on notes.

I was lucky enough to mostly have professors that were smart enough to hand out their lecture slides in a printed format or post them on the web where you could print them. Then all you need to do is pay attention and note things that aren't clear to you. Honestly a much better solution than frantically trying to write everything down.

I've had those types of professors also. They are the good professors who can sympathize with the student. Unfortunately I've only had a few like that.

One of my recent professors told the students, at the beginning of the course, that he doesn't like to write anything on the board during lectures because he's "not there to hold our hands like children and that it's our responsibility to have read the chapter prior to class and to the point where we fully understand what he's lecturing about". If we had questions he would answer in more detail but still without writing anything. He was proven to be a difficult one to communicate with in and out of class.
