How to wash your cat legitimately so you don't get mauled: shower stall.

Cats will always try to escape a tub or a sink because they see a viable way out. Humans make the mistake of thinking they can body-block the cat from escaping and get shredded in the process. Cats are not intimidated by people and give less than a shit about whether or not they bite the hand that feeds them when they think that same hand is drowning them.

The solution is a shower stall with a door. You put the cat inside and, the cat, seeing no way out will sit there pathetically and meow a lot. Smarter cats may realize there is a door, but will jump at the handle instead of jumping at you. You can stay inside the shower with them and not worry about being bitten or clawed provided you don't stand in front of the door. Scrub their butts, clean their ears -- after a few spirited leaps at the door most give up in resignation and are completely compliant to whatever you want to do.

Source: I have owned 5 cats and washed them on the regular (2 because of persistent dingleberries, 1 because it never cleans itself, ever.) You're welcome.
