I think this is the first child's costume posted on here that's not from a video game with a mature rating. So many tiny assassins and psychos it's a little disturbing.

Well done. Looks really great!

[–]kungfukai 13 points14 points ago

I was about to say the same thing.

There would be countless pictures of kids dressing up as character from games they shouldn't even playing.

For example I saw a kid dressed up as Scout from TF2 thinking, "How do you even know about this game? You look 10 years old!".

Then I remembered the countless annoying kids with mics on TF2 last night.

Parents can be stupid sometimes. Even "geeky" ones.

[–]Kowzorz 13 points14 points ago

You weren't playing CS:S when you were a child? Or even a game about a man who consumes hallucinogens in order to kill a whole bunch of enemies?

[–]blab140 2 points3 points ago

Haze was weird.

[–]kungfukai 0 points1 point ago

Nope. I was playing stuff like Mario and Zelda.

[–]Kowzorz 1 point2 points ago

[–]kungfukai 1 point2 points ago

Okay you probably aren't going to still believe me.

I was born in 1993 and didn't play my first game until I was about 5 years old. The first game I ever played was Super Mario Bros 3 on the SNES All Stars Cartridge.

But I didn't get my own console until around 1999 when I was bought a Nintendo 64, which lasted me my entire childhood, right through the early 2000's (my parents couldn't afford a PS2/Gamecube/Xbox when they were all the rage).

I was raised on mostly Mario and Zelda related games, and I was late to the Pokemon party because my first Pokemon game was Generation 3 (Ruby and Sapphire).

Like I told another person in this thread of mine, I didn't start playing M rated games until I was 12, and MA15+ games until I was 14.

Probably the only thing I was deem "violent" in my childhood was probably watching Dragon Ball Z every morning before going to school.

But now days you would have kids that would be playing Call of Duty at the age I was still playing Super Mario 64.

...anyways, back to playing Torchlight II.

[–]Kowzorz 0 points1 point ago

The joke was that a man who consumes hallucinogens in order to killa whole bunch of enemies is Mario.

Thanks for the life story though! :D

[–]kungfukai 0 points1 point ago

Ah!

Now I get it, you sly person you :P

[–]furrytoothpick 0 points1 point ago

My dad introduced me to Soldier of Fortune 1 when I was about 10. It's probably still to date the goriest game out there. My dad laughed about the warning as you open the game that says "Warning this game is for mature audiences only, this game is extremely graphic and you should play with care." Honestly, I loved it. I felt like I was doing something forbidden, and it made me feel really badass. It was loads of fun, and really I don't see anything wrong with it.

[–]kungfukai 0 points1 point ago

The idea I'm trying to get across is because some parents let their children play these sought of games, there's a public outcry for these games to be banned or censored in my country. And I'm sick of it.

I mean when it comes to movies, parents will never let their child see something over MA15+. But just because its a video game, without thinking they just buy it for their child because they have the "video games = childs toy" mentality.

Plus the fact that these parents let their kids play these games online is why we have the "Annoying 10 year old on XBL" stereotype.

I mean sure, if you're supervising your child while playing these games I'm fine with it.

Just don't ruin it for the rest of the "mature" gamers out there and ask the game to to be toned down on content because you want your underage kid playing it, which is the problem I'm talking about.

If Rating Boards are concerned that kids a playing "mature" rated games, they should make sure the parent doesn't buy it for them in the first place.

Which is why we've been pushing for an R18+ for our game rating in Australia. Good thing is that it will be implemented next year, bad thing is that it's not identical to our movie rating (they're still ruling out heavy drug use, even though movies with the same content will be allowed in).

[–]Darknezz19 5 points6 points ago

duno about you but we were playing the shit out of MKII when i was around 10. good times

[–]Lord_NiteShade 4 points5 points ago

I dont think you were going online calling people niggers and faggots though, telling them how they sucked dick and you fucked their mom. Violence is one thing, immaturity is another.

[–]Darknezz19 -3 points-2 points ago

we didnt have the internet back then we had to do it the old fashion way, crank calling ppl. it's all just masturbation really. which reminds me, haven't spanked it for a few days. so if you'll excuse me now, gotta do some laaaaundry..

[–]blaghart 2 points3 points ago

Honestly I see very little wrong with TF2 over games like borderlands and the like...cursing is to a minimum, damage is comical (like a whiley coyote cartoon really) and there's nothing scary about any of the classes.

[–]kungfukai 0 points1 point ago

I was just using TF2 as an example.

Plus TF2 is rated MA15+ in my country.

[–]blaghart 0 points1 point ago

Meaning 10 year olds shouldnt play it...but i watched my little brother see way worse stuff in kids shows all the time (acceleracers anyone?)

[–]ImaginationStation -4 points-3 points ago

Exploding body parts and blood would probably disturb many children. It certainly has that effect on older adult non-gamers.

[–]blaghart 3 points4 points ago

You underestimate kids these days. The way the bodies explode in the game usually elicits laughs from my 10, 8, 7, and 7 year old siblings

[–]ImaginationStation -3 points-2 points ago

Is it anecdote time?

My 10 year old nephew had to go to therapy over how deeply Fallout 3 disturbed him.

One of my students was so frightened by a mature Batman game that she burst into tears when she saw another student dressed as the Joker monster on Halloween.

My little brother had nightmares for years over a babysitter playing Eternal Darkness in front of him, bed-wetting for over a year included. Totally fucked up his first period grades all through middle school because he wasn't getting enough sleep due to the nightmares.

In general, erring on the side of not letting elementary children play 18+ games, with further judgment on a child-by-child basis instead of "my siblings can play it so it's totally cool for any kid," is probably a reasonable idea.

[–]blaghart 1 point2 points ago

And none of those have cartoony characters exploding like a loony toons show. TF2 I find acceptable because it's cartoony, and cartoon violence is something children are conditioned to enjoy.

Things like arkham asylum (a horror action game), fallout 3 (a post apocalyptic rpg) and a game with DARKNESS in the title are of course not acceptable for children. But again it's a matter of choice, know your kids, don't rely on others to tell you what's good for your kids. My little brother had nightmares from the disney princess game, even things that are rated E10+ can be inappropriate for kids 10 and up.

[–]D54XBTOOL -1 points0 points ago

1) I was disturbed well before fallout 3, you may want to investigate that on your side. 2) The Joke IS in fact a scary character and fits in well with the general theme of Halloween, you know scary, ghosts, haunting etc etc.. 3) Eternal Darkness, good game...OH, well that explains #1..

Good Parenting goes a long way or even just half assing it may be better then what for the most part passes for it these days.

[–]ImaginationStation -1 points0 points ago

1 isn't 3's son. How would it make sense for a guy who was in middle school AFTER Eternal Darkness came out in 2002 have a son born before 2002?

There are different levels of scariness and The Joke isn't appropriate for many small children.

Just because Pennywise is meant to be terrifying doesn't mean it's okay to let a ten year old watch IT or dress up as Pennywise at a primary school, same goes for vidya.

"Parenting these days" I assure you, most parents have been lackluster throughout human history. The parents I deal with range from twenty year old's who had kids at 13 and people in their late fifties/early sixties who waited until menopause was about to rear it's head. The older parents are just as bad, if not worse, than the teen moms. I would rather deal with ten young parents who are ignorant due to their age than one older parent who is suck in their ways.

[–]D54XBTOOL -1 points0 points ago

Oh I am sorry I guess the arabic numbering system I used to identify my remarks to each comment above was to much. How about we try dashes or roman numerials next time?!? As to Joke, yes I made a spelling error was joker..sorry but I guess you got that, and I buy that Pennywise is meant to be scary why ever would you dress up a child like that is beyond me, re-read parenting comment. As for parenting, I pretty much agree. By your comments I am guessing you are a teacher. Dropping kids off to school, parents expect a day care, but hate it when you have to correct the kids behaviour.

(Sorry missed the fact that you took the time to email this as well. I would have only comment on this here and not back on the open forum. As you will tell mostly I have a 'grating' online persona but really don't mean much by it.)

[–]Steellonewolf77 1 point2 points ago

You didn't play mature games as a kid?

[–]kungfukai 0 points1 point ago

Nope.

[–]Steellonewolf77 0 points1 point ago

D:

[–]kungfukai -1 points0 points ago

Why does this shock you?

Some parents do actually follow the recommendations of the ratings.

Some parents do take responsibility for what their children watch instead of just buying a game for their child and then find out that it's not right for their age and then blame their actions on the creators of the game and the government for not banning it.

My parents weren't full on strict like you're imagining them being, I was allowed to play M Rated games around 12, and MA 15+ at 14. They saw that I was mature enough then to understand the game's content.

But still, if only all of the parents did follow the ratings. Then we wouldn't have annoying 10 year old kids with microphones playing games like Counter Strike, Halo, TF2, Battlefield, etc.

I wasn't one of them, because I didn't have a microphone to use until I was 15.

Think about it.

[–]Steellonewolf77 0 points1 point ago

Because just about everyone I know played violent games as a kid. Getting together with your friends and killing each other was a blast.

[–]gringreazy 0 points1 point ago

I dont think its something that can really be stopped if you think about it. A child may only spend a limited time at home following whatever rules are implemented there but as soon as they are out the door, friends, school kids, with technology as readily available as it is; i think the best thing you can really do is teach them the difference between fantasy and reality; or live in the woods. Regardless, violence is part of American culture i dont think its that easy to escape it, also the problem is not the violent games its letting your kid play too many games when they should be learning more valuable skills.

[–]ReverendVoice -2 points-1 points ago

I don't see a problem with younger kids playing mature titles. I have a problem with younger kids playing that think they are 'being grown-up' by screaming obscenities and racial epitaphs. It's half the reason I find playing online to be worthless.

The key is parents being aware of what games their kids are playing and how they are playing them. A little observation goes a long way.

[–]kungfukai 3 points4 points ago

I see a problem as it holds the progress of a new rating system for my country (Australia) back.

Society here still thinks video games are for kids (even though the average age of a "gamer" is between 16 and 40), but when they find out that some of the games they bought for their children are too much for their age they get angry at the developers and ask the government to go on a damn banning spree.

Instead of taking the blame or responsibility for their actions, they rather have the gaming community lose out.

It's because of this "video games are for kids" mentality, that games like Mortal Kombat 9 are banned, and Left for Dead 2 are censored.

[–]Silenced_is_Foo 3 points4 points ago

Epithets.

[–]VespertineSkies -1 points0 points ago

This costume includes a gun, your point is kind of moot.

[–]schnitzelstr 29 points30 points ago

If there was a reddit just for children this would be the top post.

[–]Exiled_David 1 point2 points ago

Oh you!

[–]pancakehiatt 51 points52 points ago

Mudkip.

[–]czi 26 points27 points ago

[–]BaronVonDark[!] 6 points7 points ago

I know Skylanders catches a lot of flack. I picked this game up for my 4 year old with the starter pack that came with Gill Grunt, Trigger Happy, and Spyro. Its actually a fun little game that her and I play all the time! She absolutely loves it. At first I was just going to buy her one of every element so she could complete all the levels. Yeah... Right... 24 Skylanders later, The Giants, 3 additional giants, Chill, Fright Rider, and Pop Fizz all in layaway it has gotten a bit out of hand. But she loves them so much that I don't care to spend the money on her. I don't worry about her playing the game and seeing something inappropriate either. Its a money racket yes but it brings her so much joy. As I am typing this out, she is sitting in the floor playing with her Skylanders as action figures!

[–]kinjala 5 points6 points ago

Fizz?

[–]Raneados 4 points5 points ago

I keep seeing this "Skylander" thing everywhere.

Is this big? Should I be buying stock in it or something?

[–]Mrlongleggedmcdaddy 0 points1 point ago

It's hugely popular but it has killed Spyro.

[–]Solaxus 1 point2 points ago

That's my biggest problem with Skylanders honestly. I don't think I'd have any problem with the game otherwise, I might have actually enjoyed playing it if I tried it, but because they nailed poor Spyro to the game, I just can't see it as anything other than ruining the name of Spyro even more than that "rework" series they did a few years ago.

[–]Shiftia 0 points1 point ago

Yes, it's huge right now.

[–]Ontolodox 0 points1 point ago

Put it this way, with Skylanders as big as it is now, picture in your head Nintendo having the same tech and going the Pokemon route with it...

To say they'd make money hand over fist is a major understatement.

[–]Scottfra 9 points10 points ago

Woah, personally I dislike skylanders but WOW that's really good!

[–]Macrat 9 points10 points ago

So cute!!! I think Skylander is a great game for children...it's a videogame with his own system and collectible figurines.

I would have gone batshit crazy about that as a child.

[–]amoebaserious 2 points3 points ago

I go batshit crazy for it and I'm a 28 years old. Great game to play with the wife, and it feeds my need to buy and collect toys.

[–]Velolol 8 points9 points ago

I remember playing Spyro 1 and 2 all day on my PS1 when I was smaller. Those were good days, gotta agree with you all Spyro is not what it used to be.

[–]Silenced_is_Foo 24 points25 points ago

Spyro is not what it used to be.

Yeah, it's incredibly successful now.

[–]ThatDamnRaccoon -1 points0 points ago

Successful? Yes. Good? Not anymore.

[–]IamWhite-n-Rich 11 points12 points ago

Great costume, but I really hate what they've done with Spyro.

[–]wolfEXE57 2 points3 points ago

Best costume I've seen by far

[–]Sea-Salt 3 points4 points ago

Can't say Gill Grunt is my fav of the bunch, but that's a pretty well-made costume; plus the proportions fit a kid better than anything.

[–]JMuell 4 points5 points ago

I love Skylanders, just got done beating the main storyline of Giants the other day. Gill Grunt is definitely one of the best, awesome costume.

[–]Luxeed 4 points5 points ago

Wow, that's spectacular! Big ups to whoever assembled it. :)

[–]coreleven123 -2 points-1 points ago

Happy cake day!

[–]Luxeed 2 points3 points ago

Thank you!

[–]HighFiveYourFace 0 points1 point ago

I never login to upvote something... but for this... I had too!

[–]FalconX2 3 points4 points ago

Love Skylanders. This is just epic.

[–]marcomac 2 points3 points ago

Nice super cool :-)

[–]Solidusword 2 points3 points ago

How was this made!? It looks awesome!!

[–]cilyarome[S] 7 points8 points ago

I'm actually not sure yet. They just sent me the picture.

I know my brother has a plastic press, which is probably how he did the eyes. The scales are made of foam mats.

[–]tynap 0 points1 point ago

Wow... This is amazing!

[–]0VERT1ME 2 points3 points ago

This is incredibly well made. I don't know much about the game or whatever, but this is really cool!

[–]DeadWade 1 point2 points ago

That. Is. Adorable.

[–]extremelyterrific 0 points1 point ago

I honestly have no idea what this is, but it's fantastic.

[–]SaltyBabe 2 points3 points ago

It's Gill Grunt!

[–]mrmadrid 1 point2 points ago

This is my friends kid. He always makes the best costumes for his son. He's the best dad!

[–]captaintimewaste 0 points1 point ago

[–]cilyarome[S] 0 points1 point ago

It's completely mobile. The gun it a prop.

[–]PrettiestPrincess 0 points1 point ago

I am quite impressed. Props to you! Did not expect to see this costume :D

[–]mjknlr 1 point2 points ago

I saw Stitch.

[–]hoofrog 1 point2 points ago

My daughter and I were just talking about this last night. I think we may go as Skylander and Portal Master next year for Halloween.

[–]gearhead454 0 points1 point ago

Nope. Not a thing.

[–]hereforeyebleach 1 point2 points ago

I'm tired of all these costume posts, except for this one. This one is the best I have seen and will forever be the best.

[–]deguello1836 0 points1 point ago

I wasn't sure but I may be old school isnt this from X-Com terror from the deep? Thats what I thought of when I say it.. Great Costume..

[–]Bishopkilljoy 0 points1 point ago

Ya like mudkipz?

[–]kungfu_jesus -2 points-1 points ago

Looks like a Cornish Pixie if you ask me.

[–]Chris_Parker 0 points1 point ago

I saw a kid dressed up as Chop Chop last night, these make me so happy--I love it when I see kids dressed as creative things they find fun.

[–]skocznymroczny 0 points1 point ago

As a person who doesn't know what Skylander is, I thought this was Aquatoid from X-COM:TFTD with a Sonic Cannon...

[–]Adarkox 1 point2 points ago

I would SO get into Skylanders, but knowing me, I'd end up buying every single friggin' one and end up living in a cardboard box.

[–]waffleman26 0 points1 point ago

good lord how long did that costume take to make? It looks amazing!

[–]CheetoX23 0 points1 point ago

I literally have no idea hat Skylanders is (I mean, I've seen them, just don't know what they are), but this costume is awesome. Reminds me of Battle Beasts.

[–]Mr_Pie_Eater 0 points1 point ago

WOW! This is awesome!

[–]VespertineSkies 0 points1 point ago

I have no idea what game this is from, but just wanted to say the costume looks awesome! Neat little alien fish creature.

[–]Stomphoof 0 points1 point ago

Nice Gill Grunt! I prefer Prism Break and Drill Sergent myself though

[–]Milldog 0 points1 point ago

Thats awesome. l can imagine how cool that kid is feeling under that costume.

[–]mistsofobscurity -1 points0 points ago

What the fuck happened to Spyro? God damn it..

[–]Pxtl 4 points5 points ago

Activision realized they still owned a character that was attached to a bunch of me-too Mario 64 wannabe games and decided they could bolt him onto a new experimental way to sell DLC to kids.

Then they had a flash of brilliance and had the guys who made Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters make the game, who have a habit of being given low-budget terrible projects like Little Witching Mischiefs and 102 Dalmations and Tony Hawk Downhill Jam and other similarly awful ideas for games... and then they manage to make kid-friendly games that are actually fun in spite of that.

So, they did something nobody expected and actually made Skylanders really good. And now they've got kids buying DLC like crack in the form of little toys that dock into your system to unlock new missions and characters.

[–]vertigo42 5 points6 points ago

They are action figures though. So its better than DLC. Not only is it additional characters for your game. Its FUCKING ACTION FIGURES! EDIT: the action figures are badass too.

[–]SaltyBabe 4 points5 points ago

Also, while yes, you need at least one sky lander of each "type" to unlock every area of the game, you can play to the end and defeat the final boss with just one. I'm sure you can buy a copy of the game with no figures, but you need the little activation portal thing, and you can buy a combo of game, portal, and three figures for a decent price. So aside from one figure and the portal, nothing is required to finish the game.

Plus like you said they get toys! My 8 year old step sons loves his skylanders as toys just as much as in game and they really did a stellar job making it work well with the way kids use it.

[–]Mrlongleggedmcdaddy 1 point2 points ago

Did you know? Skylanders started off as Spyro's Kingdom a M rated Spyro game. Early in development Activision lost touch in the project and ditched it. Later it was totally redeveloped into what we know now as Skylanders. Your welcome.
