imgur doesn't care what the file extension is, as long as it starts with a legal image format ("png", "jpg", etc). You can actually add a message after the file extension. For example, this is allowed:

My 2 Cents:

This was rendered in an old version of 3DS Max, using the scanline renderer. It looks like the original animator originally planned to manipulate the end affector in an inverse kinematics chain, but wound up breaking the chain and simply scaled the bones elements, around the base bones pivot point.
