Rules

  1. No screenshots, or pictures with added or superimposed text. This includes image macros, comics, info-graphics and most diagrams. Text (e.g. a URL) serving to credit the original author is exempt.

  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

  5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited.

  6. No animated images. Please submit them to /r/gif, /r/gifs, or /r/reactiongifs instead.

  • If your submission appears to be filtered but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

  • If you come across any rule violations, please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

Please also try to come up with original post titles. Submissions that use certain clichés/memes will be automatically tagged with a warning.

In football practice when we got to the far side of the field we realized that if we make motions like we are runnin really fast it woul appear to the coaches that we were hauling ass. (only works for offensive line practice)

Its really quite interesting that you say that, and going off the OPS picture, one of the very foundations of Calculus, the derivatives is based of that idea. The Greek philosopher Zeno, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeno_of_Elea, has a paradox about the flight of an arrow. Namely, at each moment of the arrows flight is the arrow moving? That is to say, if you look at the arrow during each moment, its actually frozen in time, its not moving. At each moment its stopped. So how do you know its moving?

Newton and Leibniz come along and say ah well we know its moving because if you look at where it is at the time that you stopped it, then looked at where it is 1 minute later, then we take the distance and divide it by the time to get its speed, so therefore its moving at such and such speed. Zeno comes back and says well all youve proven to me is that at this time it was here and at this time it was here, you still havent proven to me that its moving. So Newton and Leibniz shoot back ok, well Ill take its time and position at the moment, but instead of 1 minute later, Ill go 5 seconds later. So here now I have the time and position at the moment, and then I have the time and position 5 seconds later. I divide the distance by the time, and there you go it was going at this speed. Zeno shoots back again and goes no no, still all youve given me is where its at at this moment and where its at 5 seconds later, it still doesnt prove anything. Newton and Leibniz shoot back and go ok, look what Im gonna do is keep taking smaller and smaller intervals of time, as those intervals approach 0, I keep getting this same speed, this same number, so therefore I conclude that at this moment it was traveling at this speed, therefore it was moving (which is essentially what you do to get the derivative)

My apologies for the long winded response, I totally copied what I learned from this DVD with this Calculus professor, but after going through all the way up to Calculus 3 and after watching that DVD the derivative is starting to make a lot more sense to me and I thought it was appropriate to your comment and the OPs picture.

Wow, I visited this artwork once when I was only 4 years old (I moved from Texas in 1995), but as soon as I saw this image I knew exactly where it was... Amazing!

Irving, TX. I used to pass those Mustangs damn near every day.

[–]katrascythe 1 point2 points ago

I live down the street from those mustangs and do pass them every day. The frustrating part is all the people who park on the side of the street. Takes careful planning some days when I was to turn...

I love me some Dallas.

I climb all over those horses every time I go by there and take millions of pictures:-)

My mom used to take me here as a child. I would stare at the horses for hours and dip my feet in the water. For some reason this still remains a very vivid memory for me.
