Who just shit in my mouth... Oh... I did...

[–]AlixTengusa 180 points181 points ago

It's like a human centepide, except there's only one human.

[–]dcawley 284 points285 points ago

And instead of a human, it's a snake.

[–]Echidnae 41 points42 points ago

Indeed and that also implies that there are none of the 100 feets involved.

[–]Echidnae 39 points40 points ago

Aaaand full circle... Like the snake?! OMG

[–]dishiee 19 points20 points ago

So in other words, the snake snake: full circle?

[–]mindrag 22 points23 points ago

This thread is eating itself alive.

[–]Naggers123 15 points16 points ago

Kind of like ouroboros.

[–]OrnateFreak 266 points267 points ago

[–]THEREFOREiEXIST 56 points57 points ago

Dude you're supposed to wait a few days.

[–]Shagoosty 106 points107 points ago

No one does.

[–]dr_spacelad 1342 points1343 points ago

Why is nobody stopping that poor and almost certainly mentally retarded creature?

[–]Ayevee 929 points930 points ago

Natural selection?

[–]modomario 576 points577 points ago

Now only if we applied that to humans.

[–]Ayevee 336 points337 points ago

Oh it works with humans, too. Remember that next time you hear someone drive off a cliff while texting.

[–]modomario 101 points102 points ago

I shoud've said: more often.

[–]Ayevee 115 points116 points ago

Well to be honest, people are way too easy on stupid people.

[–]Calibas 40 points41 points ago

Half the laws are there to keep stupid people from doing dumb things, sometimes I think we're going against evolution.

[–]Neotyguy 50 points51 points ago

Texting and driving generally puts more people in danger than the driver.

[–]Ayevee 4 points5 points ago

This is true, but sadly if you try to point that out you get attacked by, you guessed it, stupid people.

[–]dinklebob 1 point2 points ago

You're right, how stupid am I to wish that there are laws in place to prevent stupid people from killing the rest of us with their stupid behavior?

[–]fujiman 1 point2 points ago

Welcome to America.

[–]Myth3842 6 points7 points ago

It would happen more often but unfortunately most of them are addicted to Reddit.

[–]snowboard 221 points222 points ago

I used to agree but then you think about people in Honey Boo boo. Sure that mom is going to eat herself to an early grave but before she leaves this planet she will have bred at least 4-5 other fat stupid people to take her place. The movie idocracy may soon end up looking more like a documentary.

[–]bastian1343 30 points31 points ago

Then she was the fittest, wasn't she?

If you sit around at age 70, alone, crying about the decay of society and rewatching Idiocracy, and she's long gone and left equally irresponsible offspring, each with 5 kids of their own, then she has - if our scoreboard is natural selection - won.

[–]bobbacklund 17 points18 points ago

pretty sure eugenics doesn't consider pseudo-intelectuals as an ideal trait. "DURR I hate honey boo boo and spend all day looking at memes and other useless shit on Reddit I am smart and atheist."In summary if honey boo boo goes so do you.

[–]DngrZnExpwyClosed 74 points75 points ago

While I am a huge fan of the movie and idea that as a culture and civilization we can become less intellectually rigorous due to social factors, this has very little to do with evolution or natural selection. It has a greater impact on the short term politics of nations over perhaps centuries but as a species humans will maintain a generally high level of intelligence as natural events and conflicts weed out the weak and less able to adapt. In the meantime honey boo boo and her ilk will only be imitated by the very weak minded, to their discredit, and pitied by the rest.

But I'm not a scientist so I guess it's entirely possible that I don't know how upbringing can affect our genome.

[–]jonathanrdt 63 points64 points ago

Natural selection Evolution requires scarcity of resources in order to function.

If a society provides the means for all to reach breeding age, no natural selection evolution can occur; there is no mechanism to cull the herd apart from disease, which has been significantly nerfed in the modern age.

The forces of sexual selection continue to work, but those are the only forces of evolution at work.

[–]DngrZnExpwyClosed 5 points6 points ago

Let's go with this reasoning because like I said , I'm not a scientist, so I really have no authority to base things on other than discussion.

So in this scenario, your civilization has removed most natural selectors and all that remains is sexual selection and the rare incurable disease to keep our population healthy. This goes on for let's say 3 generations, nothing but books and movies from the 'peak intelligence' generation remains.

Who cures the next spanish flu type super bug that previous generations had no way of predicting? Answer: the intelligent minority. Who died in greater numbers due to this bug? The uneducated masses. There's your natural selection. It takes much longer than three generations for any real changes to occur within our DNA right?

I want to do more examples like this based on the fall of nations that stagnated in the pursuit of comfort (comfort != happiness) and the rise of their competitors but I think I should invite comments.

[–]Tasadar 17 points18 points ago

The small minority of intelligent scientists are going to share any cure they get, not horde it for only intelligent people, in modern society any benefits of intelligence that affect natural selection are shared by the unintelligent.

[–]Gr8WhiteGrammarNazi 4 points5 points ago

History has not really shown that. Enlightened societies are often crushed by armed, benighted ones.

[–]DngrZnExpwyClosed 0 points1 point ago

This concerns the rise and fall of nations over the course of hundreds or maybe thousands of years. To my understanding, the process of natural selection takes orders of magnitude more years than that to affect the evolution of a species.

To elaborate: If Greece falls to Rome and Rome falls to the Germanic Tribes and Turks and they fall and still more rise and fall ad nauseum and in between the rise and fall of each of these nations there is a cultural ebb and tide that sees horrors and wonders created by the same cultures, how can there be any effect on the species (not culture) that isn't selecting for successful adaptation and survival.

I think Idiocracy and Wall-E show the decline of a culture through cultural darwinism (I know people hate that term) not the decline of the intelligence a given member of a species is capable of.

[–]lhld 3 points4 points ago

sure, the woman lacks book smarts, but at least she spends time with her kids.

on the other hand, as predictions of our future, see also: idiocracy, wall-e.

[–]AlisonCreates 0 points1 point ago

Actually, the show starts with the family going on a diet, and they show their progress. They are losing weight.

[–]Beyond-The-Blackhole 1 point2 points ago

The problem is most of those people kill someone else in the process of killing themselves.

[–]pianobadger 0 points1 point ago

Those people seem to be developing a penchant for early reproduction to help offset their fatally idiotic tendencies.

Evolution and adaptation don't necessarily make things better, just more reproductively successful.

[–]EIec 7 points8 points ago

People eat themselves to death too, it just takes longer

[–]Hajile_S 16 points17 points ago

Now only if we applied that to humans.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's not how natural selection works.

[–]modomario 2 points3 points ago

Well yeah it just kind of slows down when you patch up that textwhilstdriver.

[–]pitchblack2035 1 point2 points ago

See the highlights and runner-up to this years nominees for the Darwin Awards!

[–]AdrianBrony 5 points6 points ago

yeah, that would be the real Final Solution, wouldn't it?

[–]modomario 3 points4 points ago

Not really I'd just let that redneck that thinks a drop of mercury on his tongue nicely resembles a piercing have his fun.

[–]HobKing 2 points3 points ago

Really? That's sick.

[–]AdrianBrony 1 point2 points ago

what about when he gets his kids in on that fun?

[–]jjgarcia87 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, we should start with the stupidest people: people who believe in Eugenics.

[–]Kenya151 0 points1 point ago

Another win for darwin

[–]looking_for_internsh 2 points3 points ago

sigh...opens up steam.

[–]l3ane 78 points79 points ago

Not mentally retarded. This is what happens when you don't feed a snake enough; they will find food even if it's their own tail...

[–]buzzingnat 49 points50 points ago

That's actually really depressing...

[–]Kind_compliments 93 points94 points ago

He's just masturbating, it's okay.

[–]mackinoncougars 43 points44 points ago

If I could eat my own tail, I would be so happy.

[–]ohmbience 8 points9 points ago

I do not believe having the ability to give myself a rimjob would make me all that happy.

[–]Andrexthor 12 points13 points ago

Auto fellatio

[–]Reemertastic 5 points6 points ago

Because he's never gonna finish.

[–]thisisdia 11 points12 points ago

It's a hognose, which has a rudimentary venom - I wonder if its little fangs were able to get a hold between the scales and inject itself.

[–]JorusC 9 points10 points ago

Hognose aren't venomous. They just mimick cobras as a defensive measure.

[–]ReigninLikeA_MoFo 2 points3 points ago

...And eat themselves to impress other ...things.

[–]al3x3691 3 points4 points ago

Eh, whether or not the snakes are venomous is still up for debate. They cause swelling and numbness when they bite you, so depending on who you ask they either are or aren't.

Source: wikipedia and I work with them at work.

[–]RaganSmash88 10 points11 points ago

Snake. Snake...stahp.

[–]Cozy_Conditioning 6 points7 points ago

Because they put its tail in its mouth.

Seriously, snakes don't do this. Someone is being cruel to his pet for internet points.

[–]Joshiebear 14 points15 points ago

At some point it'd just vomit it's own tail up. I'd just sit and watch too. It's indeed retarded and hilarious. Snakes are the dumbest.

[–]Cheesius 73 points74 points ago

I used to own a Ball Python, and I will tell you once something goes inside its mouth, it can't be removed without a lot of effort. Their teeth hook backwards so any prey that is still alive can't struggle out of their mouth once they are in there.

I'm not a herpetologist, and my experience is just with my one snake... but I'm gonna say that this snake will not be able to remove its tail from its mouth without assistance.

[EDIT: Added image reference link, also I will point out I don't actually know what kind of snake is in the picture.]

[–]infamous-spaceman 40 points41 points ago

This gif helps me understand why the study of amphibians and reptiles is called herpetology.

[–]Cheesius 49 points50 points ago

...while the study of obviously mentally deficient amphibians and reptiles is called derpetology.

(Sorry. I couldn't resist.)

[–]Joshiebear 20 points21 points ago

I stand correctd. I used to have corn snakes and occasionally, about 3/4 through a rat they'd give up and rocket it out faster than hell and try again later. Anywhoo, awesome .gif.

[–]cheese-tits 3 points4 points ago

Corn snakes and king snakes do actually do this. It's because of an elevated feeding response due to not being fed enough/not being fed large enough prey/mating season/coming out of hibernation and being disoriented/etc.

Usually they'll vomit it up later. They might have some minor scale/skin damage from it (digestion process starts almost immediately), but after 2-3 sheds it goes away. Not sure about Ball Pythons, though.

[–]DmacC94 9 points10 points ago

nah, most snakes can vomit out a large chunk of animal within minutes. when a big snake eats a large animal (a deer, an alligator, etc) its takes a realllllllly long time to digest, and that long time makes for a very long time of the snake being vulnerable to predators while it's digesting and (although this doesnt happen often) if the snake is seriously threatened it can throw it up relatively quickly.

[–]dmgenp[S] 221 points222 points ago

would like to know was it accidental, or someone helped that snake to become one.

Up until I saw this, I thought ouroboros is most likely a result of human imagination, not that someone might observe in nature.

[–]dmgenp[S] 192 points193 points ago

apparently, it can happen accidentally:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1232276/Snake-bind-eating-tail.html

and the snake can't get out of the vicious circle by itself.

[–]IAmtheHullabaloo 257 points258 points ago

This kills the snake.

[–]ikelmonster 68 points69 points ago

[–]dhp1161 43 points44 points ago

what the fuck is this?

[–]elvis8mybaby 6 points7 points ago

[–]TheCanadianGame 10 points11 points ago

WHAT THE FU---

(boom)

[–]LongDanglingDongKok 9 points10 points ago

[–]derekc999 4 points5 points ago

Might want to turn your volume down for this one

[–]WhoLovesLou 44 points45 points ago

Right, so lets just take some video before we take Fluffy to the vet..

I get the same thought when moron parents snap a picture of their toddler doing something dangerous. "Dont crack your head open just yet, I gotta show facebook that you're dancing on the roof!" ... Or what have you.

[–]Panagoman 24 points25 points ago

Heh, fluffy...

[–]Kowzorz 15 points16 points ago

If I ever get a reptile, I'm going to name it that.

[–]Prince_Ashitaka 23 points24 points ago

Fuzzy Wuzzy was a bear

But Fuzzy Wuzzy had no hair

So Fuzzy Wuzzy

Wasn't fuzzy was he?

[–]palordrolap 12 points13 points ago

Algy saw a bear

The bear saw Algy

The bear had a bulge

The bulge was Algy

Algy is short for Algernon, which was a common enough first name when this poem was written. Why don't people call their kids Algernon any more? It's an outrage.

Probably because they kept getting eaten by bears.

[–]TwistedDrum5 2 points3 points ago

What kind of bear has no hair?!

[–]Random_Fandom 6 points7 points ago

I believe the correct answer is... Fuzzy Wuzzy.

[–]MisterMonacle 0 points1 point ago

Don't! Every new reptile owner thinks they are awesome and original naming their reptile "Fluffy". They ain't.

[–]Paclac 3 points4 points ago

I've seen the video, it's at a pet shop so it didn't have an owner. The guy recording just laughs and calls the snake dumb.

[–]postmodgirl 4 points5 points ago

It can also happen on purpose, here is an Armadillo Girdled Lizard. more info

[–]timotheophany 6 points7 points ago

Oh look, the Daily Mail! This is certain to be true...

[–]wtfmanquestionmark 2 points3 points ago

Snake: "Nom, nom, nom, nom, ...fuck.

[–]moparornocar 4 points5 points ago

This made me very sad.

[–]perpetuallygavagaid 12 points13 points ago

My friend had a juvenile cornsnake (just like in the video) that did this. We came home and it was dead in the the same fashion. Strange.

[–]Corosus 0 points1 point ago

A roommate I used to live with had 2 snakes, snakes are so fucking stupid (according to him), I never got to see it myself but they apparently would often get confused and start trying to eat their own tail, which they'd do till they kill themselves and he had to stop them.

First time I met this guy, he had one of his snakes on him, which it then proceeded to move through those little latches on his jeans for your belt....... Well just imagine taking a freezie and squeezing it from one end to the other getting all the fun stuff out, but with a snake that's full of shit (or was)....... @_@

[–]Pretty_Kitty_XD 59 points60 points ago

This gif is depressing.

[–]BeltBuckle 11 points12 points ago

You can see from the smile on his face that he is delicious.

[–]alien6 219 points220 points ago

"Holy shit this guy is delicious!"

zooms out

"Fuck!"

[–]mooktard 23 points24 points ago

Best imagery.

[–]Hlidarendi 11 points12 points ago

Sounds like a family guy joke.

[–]AlanClique 113 points114 points ago

Well here's my question: is he going to double in size or completely disappear?

[–]Corn0ffTheCob 67 points68 points ago

It will condense down into a tiny snake singularity.

[–]Windexglow 13 points14 points ago

TIL snakes cause black holes

[–]SvenHudson 7 points8 points ago

Neither.

[–]kernowgringo 48 points49 points ago

That is one unhappy stressed out snake right there, the owner obviously gives zero fucks about it.

[–]Random_Fandom 21 points22 points ago

I don't understand why someone would film their pet while it's hurting itself. I love snakes, this is really sad. :\

[–]Cisco2600 6 points7 points ago

Possibly filming for the vet. Maybe he lives a long way from the vet and emailed him this with a "WTF do I do now man? My snake is eating itself!"

Or at least I hope.

[–]professorfox 197 points198 points ago

[–]bennGmann 30 points31 points ago

Relevant Red Dwarf episode (that I hoped would be the top comment!) I didn't realise it's actually a proper term! I'm ashamed.

[–]LonMcGregor 13 points14 points ago

Red dwarf actually taught me that word. the shock: it was educational"

[–]Cameronious 7 points8 points ago

Makes more sense than naming him "our rob or ros"!

[–]germinik 19 points20 points ago

I just googled it and this was the next post. Im a little slow.

[–]omfgtora 15 points16 points ago

I wouldn't consider you slow at all simply because you know how to use google. Why should you expect the work to be done for you already?

[–]phi186 7 points8 points ago

because this is reddit and we are lazy

[–]spacebootsohno 14 points15 points ago

How dare you sir, I am not la

[–]annenoise 3 points4 points ago

Lisa, finish my sentence for me.

Finish your own... darn...

[–]mirrth 5 points6 points ago

Id say you are actually ahead of the curve. Independently investigate your own ponderings instead of trusting/waiting someone else to spoonfeed it. +1

[–]geoman2k 74 points75 points ago

anyone else find this really, really disturbing?

[–]ilovewandy 25 points26 points ago

Yep. I need to flush this image from my mind. Poor snake.

[–]Morganite2885 3 points4 points ago

I do.

[–]lurklurkwork 125 points126 points ago

Snake? Snake! Snaaaaaaaaaaaaake!

[–]R0rschach1 20 points21 points ago

SNAKE EATER!!!!!

[–]bandersnatchpop 7 points8 points ago

WHAT A THRILLLLLLL!

[–]Hopulus 24 points25 points ago

[–]SnapeWho 23 points24 points ago

Jesus Christ that's awful. Who has the reaction of filming it instead of rushing it to the vet?

[–]nourez 17 points18 points ago

Completely agree. Some people shouldn't be allowed to have pets.

[–]dilkington11 4 points5 points ago

It was in a pet shop. the video on liveleak showed that is cost £450 on the corner.

[–]SnapeWho 12 points13 points ago

Report that fucking shop. To someone. Fuck.

[–]SenSei_Buzzkill 21 points22 points ago

Day 6 - "..Jerome threatened to eat himself. We told him that was physically impossible."

Day 7 - "We were wrong. Jerome ate himself."

[–]ForTUGA 71 points72 points ago

[–]seanlax5 3 points4 points ago

in what world?

[–]snickles19 39 points40 points ago

you cant tell me this isnt cute.

[–]deagle50ae 9 points10 points ago

here to confirm: it's cute

[–]Cisco2600 4 points5 points ago

I love baby corn snakes, they're like spaghetti with eyes.

[–]Shagoosty 25 points26 points ago

Ours.

[–]MuffinatorXIII 6 points7 points ago

i'm pretty sure when they do this (what's in the original post not your picture) they could get killed. so if your snake does this by accident you should probably rush to the vet

[–]Corn0ffTheCob 7 points8 points ago

Excuse me for knowing nothing about reptiles, but do you really need to take it to a vet? Couldn't you just pull the tail out of the mouth?

[–]phis6 25 points26 points ago

backwards facing fangs and depending on the species ribs and muscles contracting to drawn the prey deeper.

[–]googie_g15 6 points7 points ago

That's a nice looking burm you've got there. Is that a lavender albino morph?

[–]fubes2000 80 points81 points ago

I think your snake might be retarded.

[–]mrwoolery 17 points18 points ago

Snake is wondering..."why does my butt hurt?"

[–]dahahawgy 18 points19 points ago

It hurt itself in its confusion!

[–]Epershand 15 points16 points ago

'There is a temptation for a snake-eater like this one to lunge at its own tail, especially if kept in a small enclosure. They can't spread themselves out and think their tails are another snake.'

That's just sad.

[–]notaverysmartman 34 points35 points ago

FMA anyone?

[–]Wormy_____McSquirmey 16 points17 points ago

Autofellatio suicide? Well I've got my plans for the weekend.

A Rob or Ross?

[–]Wes1180 2 points3 points ago

It wasn't "Our Rob or Ross" written on my box it was Ouroboros

[–]Dog_River_Dave 6 points7 points ago

Well that can't be productive...

[–]MisterMonacle 3 points4 points ago

That looks like a hognose. They like very dry conditions with very low humidity and as far as I know are not known to tend towards cannabilism. If this was a kingsnake it would be less surprising but it is not and leads me to believe something is pretty badly wrong with this little guy (apart from the fact that he is eating himself)

[–]HoboSpider 4 points5 points ago

One more and you can get a real life Auryn going.

[–]pclamer 2 points3 points ago

[–]donniedarkofan 1 point2 points ago

My initial reaction was like the fat guy from Eight Crazy Nights, "Why are you eeding dat?" Then I thought, does he get twice as big or disappear?

[–]tokerdytoke 3 points4 points ago

Dude! When I was a kid I asked my teacher if this could ever happen, she looked at me like this O_o..

[–]Watercolour 3 points4 points ago

Isn't this only supposed to happen if the snake is starving? Feed the snake OP!

[–]MisterSquirrel 3 points4 points ago

Relevant historical fact, Friedrich August Kekulé von Stradonitz discovered the chemical structure of benzene rings from an insight that came to him after dreaming about something like this.

[–]imfuckingawesome 6 points7 points ago

nice belt

[–]radiopinetool 5 points6 points ago

Thought this was a Mars Volta reference, but was wrong. TIL what ouroboros is.

[–]TheShazbah 0 points1 point ago

you're not alone there. The Mars Volta is always relevant.

[–]nomanoid 4 points5 points ago

This must be every dog's dream.

[–]Forget_the_Oranges 0 points1 point ago

Translates directly to "Dumb ass snake"

[–]MadroxKran 2 points3 points ago

how does this end?

[–]kbsra 0 points1 point ago

All I could think of was Strider Hiryu...

[–]anhero23 2 points3 points ago

Wasn't there some sort of mythology that was based on a snake eating itself?

[–]ZOIVII3IE 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, the title of this post.

[–]anhero23 2 points3 points ago

And so there was.

[–]ISawThePhotograph 2 points3 points ago

Our Rob or Ross?

ALRIGHT WHICH ONE OF YOU JERKS SEASONED THE KING SNAKE

[–]bherring24 4 points5 points ago

I wanna watch Millennium now.

[–]tiffanydisasterxoxo 3 points4 points ago

Why is it eating itself?

[–]AlixTengusa 7 points8 points ago

It's hungry & confused, duh.

[–]nvjunkie 0 points1 point ago

Snake. What are you doing? Snake. STAHP!

[–]JarlaxleForPresident 27 points28 points ago

Snake? SNAKE?! SNAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!!!!
