I've pulled all nighters only to have to go to school right after, resulting in me not sleeping for about 36 hours.

[–]runsoutofspace 33 points34 points ago

You're still sleep-deprived. You posted this twice.

[–]wtfisdisreal 11 points12 points ago

hmmm.

To delete or not to delete. That is the question.

[–]BerateBirthers 14 points15 points ago

It depends on the karma

[–]zipsgirl4life 6 points7 points ago

Just upvoted both to make the decision easier. Sleep deprivation, FTW!

[–]VincentVanGoatse 73 points74 points ago

How many of those 16 hours were you on Reddit?

. . . . . . . . . Don't lie.

[–]Decatf 64 points65 points ago

He posted this then started the paper.

[–]jacobchapman 58 points59 points ago

[–]TekNoir08 7 points8 points ago

Then went back to reading reddit.

[–]Pepsuber188 42 points43 points ago

I'll help you start: What I learned in boating school is...

[–]crbowles 21 points22 points ago

How many weeks have you known about the due date?

[–]joecereal 9 points10 points ago

A year.

[–]Laffs 13 points14 points ago

Hear that? A year weeks!

[–]wtfisdisreal 29 points30 points ago

[–]DeathToPennies 2 points3 points ago

I know this feel all too well. Just... So much exhaustion...

EDIT: Added an 'o'.

[–]wtfisdisreal 4 points5 points ago

Once you stay awake for a certain amount of time, it stops mattering, the hours just blur together. It's like a sleep deprivation nirvana, it's hard to get to, but once you do, you can go on for what seems like forever.

[–]133tm4n 1 point2 points ago

And then time stops, and you go home.

[–]mikek3 7 points8 points ago

May you should've planned it out and done a little every... oh fuck it. I did the same thing 20 yrs back. Pro-tip: the "I didn't do my homework" nightmares don't go away. Ever. (Fortunately, I've managed to train myself to recognize these dreams while they're happening so I can wake myself up). (And yes, I do computers for a living)

[–]Nickdanger3rdEye 5 points6 points ago

The other night I had the "test in a class you didn't know you were enrolled in" dream.

Still freaks me out.

[–]meatman5805 0 points1 point ago

How do you "do" computers?

[–]mwguthrie 1 point2 points ago

You have to be an old fuck who grew up when personal computers were just becoming affordable for people with upper middle-class incomes.

[–]mikek3 1 point2 points ago

In a very disconcerting way.

[–]sleepyscott 0 points1 point ago

I bet you do computers for a living. snickers

"Insert 8GB ram stick into slot C... but I only have 5?"

[–]TelcoBro 6 points7 points ago

Congrats dude! I've done something similar, you'll be so proud of yourself for the rest of your life

[–]FetusMemories 5 points6 points ago

I'm currently in the same situation... Why do I do this to myself? Why am I on reddit?

[–]derajydac 1 point2 points ago

My paper is due in 12hrs, its 10pm. I don't need sleep.

[–]FetusMemories 1 point2 points ago

Sleep is stupid.

[–]sugarbooger89 7 points8 points ago

Just did this. Emailed it in at 11:48, was due at 12.

[–]wtfisdisreal 14 points15 points ago

12 minutes to spare? That's childs play. I've emailed at 11:59, typing like a motherfucker to make it on time.

[–]ptboi42 4 points5 points ago

Jesus.. what is wrong with you people ಠ_ಠ

[–]studmuffffffin 5 points6 points ago

Reddit and weed, I'm assuming.

[–]YNinja58 2 points3 points ago

Some of us do our best work under pressure. I have a 5 page essay due tomorrow that I haven't touched. I'll get to it... But not right now, the Blazers are playing.

[–]Ihavetheinternets 2 points3 points ago

Ha I have a 5 page essay due tomorrow, I'm going to start it in the morning. My class is at 8 am.

[–]YNinja58 2 points3 points ago

Hybrid class, I turn my essay in online. It's due by midnight... I'll do it around 8 or 9. Maybe.

[–]ptboi42 2 points3 points ago

I'm seriously like tearing up, and shaking my screen in fury and bewilderment at the lack of organization of you people.

[–]YNinja58 0 points1 point ago

I'm organized! I just don't see the point in doing my paper any earlier. I loathe writing. I put it off as long as possible. All of my math homework is done for the week, all of my history work is done (and I'm started on extra credit), I'm just putting off writing because it's shitty.

[–]ManlyMrManlyMan 5 points6 points ago

Out of those 16 hours eight were spent on making this gif right?

[–]tangyfish 3 points4 points ago

As a political science student currently working on a paper due tomorrow, i know that feel, bro.

[–]CEOofEarthMITTROMNEY 2 points3 points ago

I'm currently working on (browsing Reddit) a power point presentation due tomorrow morning at 9

edit- aaaaaannnndd fuck it. I'm too tired.

[–]noisyturtle 9 points10 points ago

What kind of paper takes 16 hours to write. Is this your doctorate thesis? I mean, a decent 5-10 pager with research should only take about 6-8 hours max, or am I crazy?

[–]its_your_their 8 points9 points ago

Depends on if you include research and what sort of class you're in. In my 300 level literature classes, we're going to have to have at least five scholarly sources, workshop a draft, and revise for finals. Just reading a twenty page peer-reviewed article is going to be an hour alone.

[–]SecretAg3nt 6 points7 points ago

As a bio major, you having to clarify 'scholarly sources' made me giggle.

[–]its_your_their 4 points5 points ago

I just figured there might be a lot of freshman in intro comp classes that are just using wikipedia and sparknotes as sources.

[–]SecretAg3nt 1 point2 points ago

Maybe its just my university, but those were never options for us.

[–]its_your_their 0 points1 point ago

Plagiarism isn't an option for any university and students still do it every semester. Though, I might be exaggerating about what freshman do for works cited. However, they probably aren't reading some crazy ass article by Jameson about postmodernism as meaningless pastiche.

And I'm jealous of them for not having to do so because Jameson can be dense as hell.

[–]zipsgirl4life 3 points4 points ago

I had a ten page paper in my last nursing class. I did the home visit then let it sit for awhile. I had to have five articles as well - had to be w/in 5 years - and I had to make actual use of them. Also used two books. (seriously, I have a degree in Lit and I've never used 7 sources. Ever.) Sat down and did the whole thing in 4 hours ... Then spent at least one or two on APA formatting, because I SUCK at APA (give me MLA any day). But - I have a friend who spent 16 hours because she wrote TWENTY EIGHT PAGES. Different clinical instructor. Mine would've either failed me right off, or handed it back and said, "No. Sorry. Fuck no. I have a life." LOL

[–]aravena 2 points3 points ago

Same, although my longest time spent on a report was not for English but rather economics. Three 10-15pg papers, research and all, one a night overnight starting around 10 finishing by breakfast. Good times. I miss college. And no, I did not sleep during the day. I'll take BS papers anyday of the week in college life for life after.

[–]BassNector 0 points1 point ago

Does no one in this thread know what time management is!?

[–]aravena 3 points4 points ago

Did what I want in the day, worked every week night, partied that Friday night, slept, and enjoyed the rest of my weekend. How is that not time well managed? Adderall is your friend.

[–]BassNector 1 point2 points ago

As long as you get your work done without any detriment to your health, you are managing correctly.

[–]p0b 2 points3 points ago

I was thinking the same thing. I would even say 6 - 8 hours for a 5 - 10 page paper is conservative.

[–]efrumttr 1 point2 points ago

In my experience it depends partially on how you write. I've found that most people I talk to will pump out a bunch of writing but it'll be shitty and need a ton of editing after. I just can't write that way. I write a paragraph or a page, reread it several times, edit on the fly, and then keep going. Might take me a little bit longer but it works for me.

[–]jubilations 2 points3 points ago

I'm the same way, buddy.

[–]YOUNOHAVEFUN 2 points3 points ago

this. I did this with my high school final essay. 12 page paper due at 11am, started at like 3am. Completed it with in like five sleep deprived horrible hours. Got it done. Literally got a 97%, highest grade in the class. Now in my junior year in university, I do this shit every paper. I know the deadline weeks ahead, yet I start the paper same day its due. I pump out A & B papers all the time.

tldr bad habits are hard to break when you are rewarded

[–]stash0606 2 points3 points ago

Jesus christ, 16 hours? How many pages was this paper? (I fully understand pages doesn't fully correlate to the amount of time for a paper, but I wanna know how a paper took OP 16 hours to finish)

[–]wtfisdisreal 0 points1 point ago

Reddit

[–]atlusblue 2 points3 points ago

I'm not sure if sad or great. but I really miss this.

[–]derajydac 1 point2 points ago

Its sad in a great way.

[–]BusHeckler 1 point2 points ago

I left writing the majority of my undergrad dissertation till the night before. I started writing at 6pm and finished at 3pm. 21 hours straight.

I mean sure, 16 hours is bad, but really ...

I then went out clubbing. I got to bed at 7.30am the morning after the morning after. I do hope you're doing the same.

[–]SnotRocketScience 2 points3 points ago

You're my hero.

[–]zipsgirl4life 2 points3 points ago

So glad to know I'm not the only procrastinator. I feel like I write better with a shit ton of pressure. I envy the people who are organized and do stuff early, but I'm not wired that way.

[–]StuliusCaesar -1 points0 points ago

If you tell yourself 'I'm not wired that way' you're always going to be a procrastinator. It's up to you to motivate yourself and ignore the excuses your mind makes up for you.

[–]zipsgirl4life 0 points1 point ago

Eh, it's gotten me this far. I have a BA, am licensed Special Ed teacher (which required grad level work), and I'm currently in the top 10% of an incredibly fast-paced accelerated BSN-RN program. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

[–]StuliusCaesar -1 points0 points ago

That doesn't make my advice any less valid. Was the downvote necessary?

[–]moby36 2 points3 points ago

Ignore the procrastination haters brother

[–]icekittyekat 1 point2 points ago

This is how I felt after turning in a semesters worth of research. It was the most work I've ever done.

[–]vampirebro 1 point2 points ago

Upvote for being perfectly looped.

[–]PloxBeefBurrito 1 point2 points ago

Time stopping watch.

[–]zipsgirl4life 1 point2 points ago

Hang in there! More than halfway through the semester but, holy cat balls is it dragging!

[–]American_Piro 1 point2 points ago

I kept hearing "Mhmmmmmmmwha!" when the gif played.

[–]strobexp 1 point2 points ago

Been there. Wish I wasn't such an awesome procrastinator, my body would probably appreciate it

[–]four1six_ 1 point2 points ago

omg happened to me yesterday, got it in 1 minute before the dead line. I know that feel.

[–]BGYeti 1 point2 points ago

I have 3 papers in the next few weeks, started them at least a week early, fuck doing them the night before.

[–]SecretSparkle 1 point2 points ago

Did you freeze time or something?

[–]Beastage 1 point2 points ago

I hate Reddit sometimes. I had about an hour of hw today, but thanks to reddit, that turned into 6 hours of homework.

[–]mr_scaredypants 0 points1 point ago

PLAN AHEAD?

[–]zombie_sphinx 0 points1 point ago

HA HA!
