  • 2006 Disney buys Pixar
  • 2009 Disney buys Marvel
  • 2012 Disney buys Lucasfilm

I'm sensing a trend here. Lets continue with the trend...

  • 2015 Disney buys Canada
  • 2018 Disney buys Mexico
  • 2021 Disney buys the moon, converts to real Death Star
  • 2024 Disney achieves world domination

[–]explicit_guy 39 points40 points ago

And all along I thought it was this mouse who was trying to take over the world. Maybe he's been disguising himself as Mickey the whole time.

[–]dxprog 10 points11 points ago

He's had stranger plans (disco ball moon, anyone?)

[–]MrPeppa 7 points8 points ago

or the one where they make a full size replica earth connected at their lab/home to the real earth

[–]ipigack 3 points4 points ago

Is that the one where they give away free t-shirts to people who come to their earth?

[–]KISSOLOGY 3 points4 points ago

It is. Because thats the one thing that made the copy-Earth better than the other. Thus convincing people to migrate over.

Personally I think thats how they need to convince people to move to Google+

[–]MrPeppa 1 point2 points ago

Cant remember..All I can recall is Brain walking on real earth, the vertically up a pole and then upside down on the replica earth...just hazy memories from days long gone.

[–]Pareeeee 1 point2 points ago

NARF

[–]Spindash54 0 points1 point ago

Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?

[–]designerdy 14 points15 points ago

Let's not forget ABC and all it's affiliates, as well as the entire ESPN conglomerate. Pretty sure Mickey Mouse should be printed on currency by now.

[–]Glebun -1 points0 points ago

Whoa, TIL

[–]kisama 5 points6 points ago

I'm waiting for Disney to buy Microsoft.

[–]Glebun 2 points3 points ago

Google would be even better

[–]Kruug 3 points4 points ago

I think Google would buy Disney.

[–]Nocturnhabeo 2 points3 points ago

I think Microsoft is still bigger... so it would go the other way.

[–]cf0ed2aa-bdf5-4ef6-a 14 points15 points ago

2021 Disney buys the moon

That's no moon!

[–]Irnbruguy 5 points6 points ago

2014, Scotland goes independent Disney buys Scotland, Makes 12 sequels to brave.

[–]trekbette 0 points1 point ago

achieves world domination

Too late.

[–]sirscooter 0 points1 point ago

Think this is more likely: 2015 Disney buys Florida

[–]TenNeon 3 points4 points ago

In high school we had to do a project in English class where we were supposed to make a presentation about how we thought the world would be in 50 years.

My group decided that it would be a post-apocalyptic wasteland that resulted from Disney taking over the world. The remaining Disneyatics roamed the wasteland in massive Disney tanks the size of buildings, ruling what they could with brute force and fear.

Little did I know that our aiming-to-be-funny project was the most accurate prediction of all.

[–]user870 1 point2 points ago

Disney buys Bethesda and makes this the next Fallout.

[–]psychosomaticism 0 points1 point ago

Whoa now, that's crazy talk. If we're going to talk about the very real possibility of world domination, at least be realistic and put Canada after Mexico.

[–]dueljester 2 points3 points ago

The scary / depressing thing is, in all reality Disney as a company not only owns a shit ton of of production assets, but because of its pull as a commercial entity it has the ability to effectively control what is on during regular prime time just by refusing to buy commercial blocks.

[–]TehGogglesDoNothing 0 points1 point ago

Disney is trying to own ALL the copyrights!

[–]Geotis 0 points1 point ago

Any place that prints its own money is trying to dominate the world, hence Disney Dollars.

[–]RoboNinjaPirate 3 points4 points ago

Also, Parker Brothers, with Monopoly.

[–]bluebomber[!] 25 points26 points ago

Haha you beat me to it. I just finished posting this when I noticed your post.

[–]steinman17[S] 8 points9 points ago

I like that one better! lol

[–]nothix 3 points4 points ago

wow that must be an OLD picture

[–]jurassic_blue 1 point2 points ago

It's from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

[–]bluebomber[!] 1 point2 points ago

It was an old picture of Disney World that I Photoshoped today.

[–]Glebun 3 points4 points ago

an OLD picture Disneyworld

[–]busydoinnothin 11 points12 points ago

I don't hate this idea. But like guy-manual said, Disney will do a good job handling everything. They finally have good people running the business, not cronies.

[–]AS1LV3RN1NJA 5 points6 points ago

Dammit you meant Guy-manuel in the thread below. Here I was thinking the guy(-manuel) from Daft Punk commented on the situation.

[–]busydoinnothin 1 point2 points ago

How do we know its not him though :O

[–]MadeByMonkeys 1 point2 points ago

I'll believe that when they restore EPCOT to former glory and not before.

[–]busydoinnothin 4 points5 points ago

Its impossible to do that, but I know what you mean. The original Living Seas, Horizons, Body Works...man what a great time that was.

Epcot needs to be revamped fully but I feel like it will be for the worst.

[–]Pr0cedure 1 point2 points ago

Mission Space is definitely pretty cool, though.

[–]blindf0ld 1 point2 points ago

Only if they resurrect EPCOT inside the Death Star

[–]brienzee 6 points7 points ago

You act like there isn't a bunch of Star Wars stuff at Disney Land already

[–]bvanman 2 points3 points ago

I was thinking about that. I believe it's MGM down in Orlando that has a Star Wars area already, and that's Disney. Maybe that's why this didn't seem that crazy when I heard about it.

[–]brienzee 4 points5 points ago

Disneyland in California has had Star Tours since 1987, and they just revamped it a year or so ago. Plus they've been doing Jedi Academy shows in Tomorrow Land for years. And they have a Star Wars gift shop. Disney and Lucas has been in bed together for my entire life, this seemed like a natural way to go.

[–]illphil90 10 points11 points ago

ITS A TRAP

[–]aGorilla 3 points4 points ago

A tourist trap.

[–]MisterHandy 1 point2 points ago

All too easy.

[–]lurker69 -1 points0 points ago

I saw this movie, I think I'll skip the ride.

[–]NobleKale 42 points43 points ago

No, it doesn't and everyone is clearly overreacting.

[–]djspacebunny 19 points20 points ago

They don't and here's why. Spaceship Earth embodies what humans have done over the ages with communications. The ride takes you from the dawn of human time to the future and speculates what communications might be like then. It was sponsored by AT&T for the longest time.

Turning a ball of hope and learning into a symbol as evil as the Death Star is absolutely abhorrent to me. You're taking away every positive thing about Spaceship Earth and making it some touristy Star Wars trap. You want Star Wars? Go to Disney Studios or whatever MGM Studios is called now. They've had a partnership with Lucas for AGES.

[–]otter111a 25 points26 points ago

Yeah, the last thing anybody would want is for Disney to be turned into a tourist trap.

[–]djspacebunny 4 points5 points ago

A lot of people go for the touristy stuff. Some people, like my parents, go down twice a year because they like having everything in one spot and having everything taken care of (hotel/transportation/all meals). I like certain hidey places in Disney to just chill and people watch.

I stand by my Spaceship Earth remarks though.

[–]Canadia86 7 points8 points ago

Rebel scum.

[–]DanWallace -1 points0 points ago

It's a joke, dude.

[–]zgr8jakez 2 points3 points ago

until they let tim burton direct then it's over

[–]zagaberoo 7 points8 points ago

I always thought Johnny Depp would make an excellent Luke.

[–]devourer09 6 points7 points ago

I think Mark Hamill would do a good job of playing the sith lord. He's already got the bags under his eyes.

[–]Volsunga 5 points6 points ago

And the evil, considering he's played the Joker for the past decade in everything but Dark Knight.

[–]zuko_for_firelord 2 points3 points ago

And Firelord Ozai.

[–]MenaNoN 0 points1 point ago

and Green Goblin

[–]supasteve013 3 points4 points ago

I personally think that would ruin it for the diehard fans, it would however be amazing for the average joe

[–]eldormilon 1 point2 points ago

As I die-hard fan, I would rather see Johnny Depp play Luke than see Hayden Christensen play any movie role ever again.

[–]supasteve013 1 point2 points ago

valid point, someone that has proven he knows how to act might be a more reasonable choice. To bad Bryan Cranston isn't an option.

[–]rjcarr 1 point2 points ago

I agree. It's as if people think Disney is just about mickey, cartoons, and theme parks. They've done a lot of amazing stuff in other areas over the last half decade, including stuff in that original list (e.g., cartoons and pixar).

[–]greenyellowbird 1 point2 points ago

Please for the love of god....the magical want was taken off of Spaceship Earth....there is no need to put that back on.

[–]Carditis 5 points6 points ago

Geath? Doggammit, Gisney.

[–]dark_roast 3 points4 points ago

New finale for the Illuminations Laser Light show: The Death Star blows up the America Pavillion. Fuck this peace and harmony shit.

[–]UltraMegaMegaMan 3 points4 points ago

I can see it now, the newest Disney theme park: Star Worlds.

[–]aspbergerinparadise 3 points4 points ago

People might actually start going to Deathcot center.

[–]Mattnoname75 2 points3 points ago

Can't find it, but anybody wondering if star wars and marvel will be in kingdom hearts? We all know Disney will make another one sooner or later.

[–]MysteryVoice 2 points3 points ago

That is definitely an interesting question, though it's technically made by Square Enix with Disney's OK.

[–]Halaku 2 points3 points ago

When I was a young Halaku, I watched them construct Epcot Center.

When I saw Jedi, I gakked out pretty hard, because the girders and superstructure of the Death Star was a dead-on likeness. Just not white and landbound.

[–]alexandream 2 points3 points ago

I can't stop thinking it'll be filled with singing Jar Jars.

[–]MrPeppa 0 points1 point ago

Don't even joke about stuff like that! I know this is the internet but even it has limits.

[–]Fabreezyo 0 points1 point ago

When you wish upon a star...

[–]jurassic_blue 0 points1 point ago

That would be the most awesome planetarium...

[–]suddenly_ponies 3 points4 points ago

Crossovers are magic!

But seriously, you have to wonder if this might not be better for the franchise. Disney usually ruins things, but George was doing a pretty good job ruining it himself.

[–]Eustis 1 point2 points ago

What is one thing that Disney has ruined, under Iger?

[–]kaddar 2 points3 points ago

john carter

Also, Pirates of the Caribbean has some of the worst swordfighting scenes in film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmCytuPkq5M

[–]dargon_ 3 points4 points ago

I don't know if I'd completely blame Disney for John Carter, the script was pretty crappy. As for swordfighting scenes from Pirates, well the movie wasn't intended to be all that serious, now the fight between Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams in Hook, that was a well done scene.

[–]suddenly_ponies 1 point2 points ago

Disney fairies

The books were amazing, but the videos were watered down and weak by comparison.

[–]Theropissed -1 points0 points ago

The hat at MGM needs to go, it's awful looking.

[–]Anynomus -1 points0 points ago

I thought to myself.. damn that would be awesome if it was life sized! .. facepalm

[–]goobersmooch 1 point2 points ago

So I was at MGM during star wars weekends this year.

Disney did not do so great with star wars.

But the storm troopers on the roof as you came in was a nice touch.

[–]spartan4333 1 point2 points ago

replace the magic wand with a light saber and we have a deal

[–]MrPeppa -1 points0 points ago

Death doesn't seem so bad when written in disney font.

[–]blackjackjester -1 points0 points ago

You mean the Deathcott Center?

[–]zeekar -1 points0 points ago

"That's no space station! That's a dark ride!"

[–]rdldr1 1 point2 points ago

A replica of the Death Star would be horrible. Full of unimaginative endless hallways that lack windows. Is staffed with the most incompetent people with the worst aim ever.

[–]ocarina_21 -1 points0 points ago

That's no moonbounce.

[–]just-plain-mean -3 points-2 points ago

  1. No it doesn't
  2. Fuck you

[–]steinman17[S] 6 points7 points ago

You rebel scum
