This reminds me of my dad. When he was in the Navy, due to some supply error, the only thing they had to eat for 6 months at sea was chicken and succotash. I have no idea of the completeness of this mistake, like they LITERALLY had nothing but that, since this happened about 10 years before I was born. But my mother said, "that's why your dad, to this day, cannot eat chicken." So anything chicken related was a private joke to my mom. Like she'd say, "bok bok" passive aggressively to bow to his will if they got into a fight and she just didn't want to continue arguing.

Sadly, instead of being fun-loving about it, it genuinely made him angry. One year when I was about 10, not knowing the extend of his rage, I got him a novelty rubber chicken (a common gag gift at the time) as a birthday present. Like this one:

He was VERY angry. I was grounded for an entire summer. Well, supposedly; my mother thought his overreaction was atrocious so I was not grounded when he wasn't around. My dad then forgot about grounding me at some point.

See, what I'd do isn't change the image per se. Instead, I would take the same image and very subtly 'Shop new details in. A tiny dinosaur here, a Yiddish farmer there. Little things, you know? Nothing you'd ever see unless you were looking for it. Over time these subtle changes would settle into the brain, until the image, one day, became something completely different but he would never even notice.
