Revering the universe, caring for nature, celebrating life:
Pantheism is the view that the universe and "God" are one and the same. Pantheists therefore reject the idea of an anthropomorphic, personal god. The overarching idea is that there is something to be marveled at when you look at the beauty of the cosmos and the laws of nature that guide its manifestation. And that our time spent with the consciousness that has emerged from the universe is to be cherished.
Pantheism is comprised of a broad range of views. Ranging from new age spiritualism to staunch naturalism to something similar to Taoism. All views are welcome and respectful discussion of opinions is encouraged.

Both are chaotic equations, part of God... (imgur.com)

Huh. I really like the phrase 'chaotic equations'.
It's very interesting that life is self-similar, and I think it's a fundamental truth that needs to be more actualized in the collective mindset. It's also very interesting that while it's fairly easy to see the similarities in trees/veins/river networks, or any branching pattern really, people seem to reject this image quite a lot.
Although the cell division/star death is quite cool to think about, I will concede that the eye and nebula one is kind of silly. At least the cell/star comparison actually has a theme.

For the universe, eye, nebula, and brain cell, you'd expect the same pattern based on what they consist of. The dense material likes to bunch into filaments connecting points with exceptional gravity, or in the case of the eye, surface tension... except for the brain cell where it's due to function. As for the birth of a cell and star's death, those are actually shown in the ordered stages, so chaotic equation is not fitting. The cellular mechanism for order is an interwoven structure of microtubules, which you should look into if you're unfamiliar. There is some literature out there which discusses the fact tubulin, the molecule which makes up the tubes actually functions as a qubit because it has two stable configurations including a superposition of the two. They also affect the state of the adjacent tubules when they switch. So the microtubules are theoretically capable of taking on complicated tasks such as controlling the cell and carefully guiding the reproductive process, some have posited they also generate consciousness but that's a bit of a jump. The star I find interesting, because the material appears to still be following the magnetic field lines. As the debris cools from a plasma state, it will lose the charge that kept it aligned, and the trajectories will become chaotic until a nebula ends up forming with no sign of the once ordered state. Nature is incredibly beautiful, the result of universal conformation to the logic of math when elements are working together, and a sea of probability when they aren't. I like this picture a lot, thanks for sharing.

It's very evocative. But I don't really care for these allegorical stories. I mean, these things aren't inherently related.
Is pantheism more about micro/macrocosm than I realize?
I think you might be missing the point if you think that the general belief that the world is God has very many strict rules. It's whatever you feel like, man.
:P

Not really; some people like to take a very spiritual approach to pantheism.

I feel your unease, especially about these particular examples. However, in some sense it demonstrates how things in the universe follow the same general mathematical/stochastic patterns at different scales.
[–]sigilvii 0 points1 point2 points 15 days ago
I see how you mean. Certainly fractals can be used to describe the universe at any scale (I think is how they can work?)

Neither are equations. I'm not even gonna bother about a deity...
