I visited new jersey about 6 months ago, beaches were clean as could be.

[–]FormerFundie6996 242 points243 points ago

The garbage is a metaphor for the guidos and snookies.

[–]option_i 16 points17 points ago

Please tell me the storm took them.

[–]Sterling-M-Archer -1 points0 points ago

Was expecting to see the jersey shore on the dirty beach, then them gone on the second. Perfect timing considering their canceled.

[–]StupidButSerious 21 points22 points ago

snooki snooki

[–]JustDelta767 18 points19 points ago

Smoosh Smoosh!

[–]trollinh 42 points43 points ago

SNOOKI WANT SMOOSH SMOOSH!

[–]Lolrus123 8 points9 points ago

Hey, you can't talk about her like that! She's from Jersey!

[–]fishyfishyfishyfish 18 points19 points ago

MUFF CABBAGE! THAT'S WHAT SHE IS! MUFF CABBAGE!

[–]kilowhisky 11 points12 points ago

FALSE... she is from New Jersey, don't disrespect Jersey like that

[–]ThaiOneOff 8 points9 points ago

She's actually from Poughkeepsie, NY.

[–]StraY_WolF 4 points5 points ago

[–]MagmaGuy 3 points4 points ago

NSF...W? I don't even know...

[–]rbcoolie 1 point2 points ago

Lookie lookie I got Snooki.

[–]McRigger 2 points3 points ago

You should go to the doctor and get that checked out.

[–]Kitten_Of_Rage 0 points1 point ago

Fat*

[–]InfiniteLiveZ 1 point2 points ago

Is there such thing as a black Guido? Curious non-American here.

[–]jkflorek 3 points4 points ago

Not that I've ever seen. I believe the term is reserved for people of Italian descent but I'm not 100% sure.

[–]mcsper 1 point2 points ago

or people who want to be of Italian decent

[–]strobexp 0 points1 point ago

If that was the intention, then it works

[–]Worldd 28 points29 points ago

Lived by the coast for 15 years, never saw anything but spotless beaches.

[–]Jesus_In_Drag 8 points9 points ago

I go to Ocean City and Atlantic City.

Both beaches are super clean. Atlantic city is a little cleaner (less broken shells, not trash).

[–]pgoetz 4 points5 points ago

Came here just to say exactly the same thing. Just so people who don't visit the Jersey Shore get the wrong impression. Sure, there is a little trash, but the beaches are mostly fairly clean.

[–]woopledoer 2 points3 points ago

Agreed. I went to Atlantic City this past summer for the first time (partially due to my obsession with Boardwalk Empire), and while the city itself could be cleaner, the beach was truly a pleasant surprise.

[–]guitarbee 1 point2 points ago

That's because the pictures aren't from Hurricane Sandy. They're just pictures that have been floating around the Internet.

For example: http://www.greenecoservices.com/reliving-the-beach-life-take-care-of-our-oceans/

[–]markycapone -1 points0 points ago

When i went to ac last year the beaches were disgusting

[–]ReYy -4 points-3 points ago

right, NJ not like that. http://img.im/i/qgli59

[–]TheAfflicted 117 points118 points ago

Someone has never actually been to a beach in NJ.

[–]KallistiEngel 13 points14 points ago

Used to go to Wildwood and Point Pleasant on family vacations (from upstate NY) and those beaches were always pretty clean and very enjoyable. Except that one time I got stung by a jellyfish.

Been meaning to go back. I haven't been there in years, but it was great when I was younger.

[–]a45Rmk4AKAz7dCwk24mC 23 points24 points ago

Keep us posted.

[–]lurkinshirkin 11 points12 points ago

Used to go to Wildwood and Point Pleasant on jellyfish family vacations and those coastlines were always pretty clean and very enjoyable. Except that one time I got stepped on by some kid.

Been meaning to go back. I haven't been there in years, but it was great when I was younger.

[–]KallistiEngel 2 points3 points ago

Ha! This is great!

I didn't step on it though. It stung me on my upper arm somehow. Bastard-ass jellyfish!

[–]Elemmakil 1 point2 points ago

Thanks, I was doubting that. Not that I've ever been to a beach in the US, but I've seen how Taiwanese looked a month after Morakot: The Kaohchung beach was filled with countless trunks of trees, thousands of them. This was accompanied by the smell of said rotting trunks. It resembled more the upper picture than the lower one.

However, when I returned the 2 years later, the beach was clean like in the picture below.

[–]this_sort_of_thing -5 points-4 points ago

It doesn't matter what is actually at NJ, all that matters is that worldwide it is known as the armpit of America.

[–]pnut_butter_jelly 15 points16 points ago

you've never been to a beach in jersey before...

also, my family had to evacuate because of Sandy. fuck you

[–]Novachi 3 points4 points ago

REDDIT MAKES FUN OF TONS OF INSENSITIVE THINGS LIKE THE HOLOCAUST BUT THIS ONE AFFECTED ME DIRECTLY SO THEY CAN'T MAKE FUN OF THAT.

Dude, really?

[–]imeanthat 0 points1 point ago

Makes sense. You wouldn't go up to a Holocaust survivor and make jokes, would you?

[–]pnut_butter_jelly 0 points1 point ago

what makes you think I support making fun of the holocaust?

[–]megustanpanqueques 3 points4 points ago

As someone who left tons of friends and family back in Jersey, my condolences... Please stay safe.

[–]jscxxii 60 points61 points ago

I've lived in South Jersey for 16 years... NJ is a beautiful state. The beaches are nothing like this. We are merely victims of the media and the cast of "the jersey shore". Those dbags represent only a small fraction of the population in NJ.

EDIT: Also.. south jersey is a completely different state than north jersey.. farmland rural and suburban area. it's quite nice when you can see the horizon a few miles away.

[–]MyrddinEmrys 7 points8 points ago

Also, the Jersey Shore dbags are from New York...

[–]madeforinglip 15 points16 points ago

Pine barrens are beautiful.

[–]HetzerHetzesHetzly 5 points6 points ago

The JErsey Shore cast are all Long Islanders. Bastard New Yorkers keep trying to take our amazing state down a peg to make up for the fact that they have the Staten Island Dump.

[–]Softcorps_dn 3 points4 points ago

Out of all the cast members from every season, only one is from Long Island. The rest are from Staten Island (3), upstate NY (1), Rhode Island (1), the Bronx (1), and NJ (2).

[–]dankhimself 6 points7 points ago

Those dbags are mostly from long island anyway. I was at the Aztek in Seaside when they were bussed in for one of the original castings and they were all from some college in long island. The show is about a bunch of morons bussed into New Jersey from New York.

[–]BR0STRADAMUS 3 points4 points ago

College? Hahaha, no.

[–]ThisRedditorIsDrunk 3 points4 points ago

As someone who grew up in "the OC" but doesn't know anyone who lives in Newport Beach, I can sympathize.

[–]Thomsenite 2 points3 points ago

Burlington County checking in!

[–]mjolnir616 1 point2 points ago

They are doing the same thing in the UK now. Newcastle and the Valleys have been tarred with basically the same brush as New Jersey, Essex has been portrayed as being full of braindead new money, and Chelsea has been represented as hateful elitist snobs. I mean, I already had that opinion of Chelsea, but I'm from London so it's allowed (plus at least I stereotyped some of Chelsea as far-right, violent, racist football hooligans, it's not like they're all the same).

[–]jscxxii 1 point2 points ago

Kinda wish our founding fathers didn't re-use the names from towns in the UK.. They should've been more original, but it's kind of neat to think that we share a few of the same town names.

[–]staffordshiremax 0 points1 point ago

thank you for this all the people that see jersey shore act like they've been here.

[–]doyduhdoh 14 points15 points ago

This is looks like spring break, as the water is all of 40 degrees in 'spring' in New Jersey, that doesn't happen there. Never seen a beach look like this in New Jersey.

[–]UMayEatMyAssSir 6 points7 points ago

Now, if only the waves would take away the cast of "Jersey Shore"

[–]_tiger_blood_ 48 points49 points ago

Well if any place needed an enema it was the Jersey Shore

[–]rannie_pophe 3 points4 points ago

Atlantic City with its business and economic contribution would be the most hit ► Atlantic City casinos to shutter with Hurricane Sandy

[–]Brutal_Sodomy -1 points0 points ago

*entire eastern seaboard and all of the south.

[–]Belchera 3 points4 points ago

**Generally the whole of humanity.

[–]Brutal_Sodomy 0 points1 point ago

'Cept you and me of course.

[–]NetPhantom 3 points4 points ago

a joke about NJ.... how brave.

[–]voidsong 3 points4 points ago

Scumbag Redditor:

Sees that Jersey Shore is a trashy joke of a reality tv show, made for complete douchetards.

Considers it a completely accurate and reliable representation of NJ anyway.

PS: I've lived in 8 different states in my lifetime, NJ isn't great but it's fine compared to many others. I'd take it over AZ or GA at the very least.

[–]GCWarm 9 points10 points ago

This should... clear things up.

[–]50shadesofsandy 2 points3 points ago

Fake.

I guess by straight you mean through the Panama Canal?

[–]keshav108 2 points3 points ago

Sandy brought reposts instead of waste?

[–]Reckoner87 2 points3 points ago

You couldn't wait for the storm to pass to repost this? This is on the front page after every hurricane.

[–]empwillkill 2 points3 points ago

lol nj beaches DONOT Look like that

[–]perfectfitnesslife 2 points3 points ago

LoL...Fake

[–]FrisianDude 1 point2 points ago

Come on, this picture is used for every storm.

[–]CutieMarkCrewsaider 2 points3 points ago

This is a repost, just the word "Irene" was replaced with "Sandy". Will post a picture if necessary.

[–]dumlywattsfucktypoo 3 points4 points ago

Wonderful. Now all that shit is in the ocean.

[–]guitareatsman 0 points1 point ago

Nah, it's probably stuck in trees in people's front yards... or clogging up the subway.

[–]dumlywattsfucktypoo 1 point2 points ago

Wishful thinking.

[–]harmonicoasis 3 points4 points ago

Kind of the opposite, but reminds me of this clip

[–]2dfruit 1 point2 points ago

RUM HAM!

[–]Valladian 1 point2 points ago

[–]witkow22 0 points1 point ago

I've noticed that when you throw something on the beach, the next day its not there. You see, nature sucks it up and recicles it. It's mother nature

[–]Blakechi 2 points3 points ago

I call bullshit. How in the hell did you get an "after" pic of the beach in Jersey when it's still dark there? And the seas and sky look pretty calm considering the winds are gusting to 50mph with heavy rain at the moment.

[–]Unisizo 4 points5 points ago

I said the same thing and received downvotes. Fuck people.

[–]captureMMstature -2 points-1 points ago

Yay more plastic floating around the word, because fuck the Indian Ocean, right guys?

[–]PolyPill 11 points12 points ago

I always thought we had too many oceans anyways.

[–]Thrice_Eye 12 points13 points ago

Atlantic ocean.

[–]RhymesandRakes 7 points8 points ago

Pretty sure he's referring to the deep sea current going from the NW Atlantic to the Indian Ocean.

[–]Thrice_Eye 2 points3 points ago

We'll just say the world's oceans and be done with it.

[–]captureMMstature 0 points1 point ago

Exactly, thanks.

[–]captureMMstature -1 points0 points ago

The fact that you assumed I couldn't possibly be talking about any ocean other than one connected to the USA proves my point exactly. That plastic will end up all over the world, not just some scummy beach in NJ, there is no coastline on this planet that has not been effected by our trash. The Indian ocean is massively awash with plastic from the US.

[–]turdeye -1 points0 points ago

And the Ganges isn't full of nasty sewage from a billion Indians?

[–]Ottawa_R 1 point2 points ago

...because no one in India ever throws away plastic

[–]this_sort_of_thing 1 point2 points ago

Ah yes, I too know of the local Newark to Mumbai ferry

[–]nevershitwhereyoueat -1 points0 points ago

So it made them sandy you say.

[–]joebab -1 points0 points ago

who would let a beach get that gross :(

[–]turdeye 1 point2 points ago

looks like Florida. The beach I go to in Jersey gets cleaned every night.

[–]43we -1 points0 points ago

NE PA reporting in (Scranton), we've had nothing but lots of wind and some rain. The rain/flooding from last year was way worse. Heck, the worst thing I'm sad about is the gusting wind ripping all the pretty leafs off the trees shortening their time to look brilliant for fall.

[–]gyrase 0 points1 point ago

natures Ctrl+Alt+DEL.

[–]zaam_harasha 0 points1 point ago

I wonder what happened to the gay homeless couple under the boardwalk

[–]ReYy -1 points0 points ago

[–]munjja -1 points0 points ago

I guess that's why they called it Sandy eh? ...

Cause of the more sand? ... ya know?

[–]throop77 1 point2 points ago

Last night my lawn was like that, except it was leaves, not garbage. Then this morning I looked and was like, "no more leaves!..?" Then I realized they were all on the side of the house in between the bushes. True story.

[–]HappyTalk 1 point2 points ago

I like how this image has been recycled for this year's hurricane

[–]TheIrieone -1 points0 points ago

"We have beaches here Avey." .. "Yeah well, who the fuck wants to seem them"

[–]frostysnowcat 1 point2 points ago

And nobody realizes "Hey wait, it's not even the morning after the hurricane hit yet, MAYBE this is fake."

[–]fulminic 0 points1 point ago

It went to Sweden.

[–]mehwter -1 points0 points ago

lol.

[–]Renegade917 -1 points0 points ago

What? Both pictures are wicked sandy.

[–]Deedzz -1 points0 points ago

Cleansing

[–]bboy799 1 point2 points ago

You realize there's still litter everywhere, except its in smaller particles. Source: I visited a spot where Katrina hit.

[–]bunana_boy 0 points1 point ago

And as Sandy commanded: "These beaches will be recreated in my name"

[–]MJDarklighter -1 points0 points ago

It's a bit more sandy, I think.

[–]sfwstuffs -1 points0 points ago

Seaside Heights was given an enema. It must be so refreshing, but it wont make Asbury turn into any less of a hole.

[–]jivanicus 0 points1 point ago

still looks pretty sandy to me.

[–]curiousthis 0 points1 point ago

Looks like that storm was appropriately named.

[–]staffordshiremax 1 point2 points ago

I grew up in South Jersey basically lived at the beach all summer. They were some of the best times in my life. This is horrible its all so surreal. The beaches were always very clean and the people are nothing like Jersey Shore. Most of them are not even from jersey if they are its North Jersey which if you lived here is much different from South Jersey.

[–]ChloroformRag 0 points1 point ago

REPOSTER!

[–]TheCaptainSam -1 points0 points ago

Still looks pretty sandy to me.

[–]bestmmaren -1 points0 points ago

There's a joke about Sandy beaches here.

[–]safetytrap -1 points0 points ago

If the first photo isn't staged this is one of the saddest picture I've seen. Why the fuck aren't people picking up their waste.. PICK UP THAT CAN!

[–]rme50c 0 points1 point ago

People that do this should be shot

[–]elijahlouis96 -1 points0 points ago

All that trash... into the ocean : \

[–]SenselessNoise -2 points-1 points ago

What's the difference between Jersey girls and trash?

Trash gets picked up.

[–]knoxknoxknox 0 points1 point ago

Or, trash doesn't usually have HIV.

[–]Wackoverlord 0 points1 point ago

For some reason i read "New Jersey bitches, before and after hurricane sandy"

[–]Odatas -2 points-1 points ago

Good guy Hurricane....cleans up the beach

[–]mcjenzington 0 points1 point ago

Seems legit.

[–]dsclouse -3 points-2 points ago

Give it a day. It will return back to it's natural state.

[–]mtheory007 -2 points-1 points ago

[–]homeostasis555 0 points1 point ago

Gotta maintain it.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]redditrutgers 24 points25 points ago

No, they're not.

[–]TheAfflicted 6 points7 points ago

Not at all. I've never even seen trash on the beach unless it was in a trash can. I live in New Jersey.

[–]Parliamentarian 0 points1 point ago

Hurricane sandy beaches

[–]50shadesofsandy 0 points1 point ago

You called?

[–]snowlion13 -1 points0 points ago

i wonder if all that plastic sails out to join that garbage island in the ocean, like plastic heaven

[–]Troq -1 points0 points ago

Even if this isn't NJ, who the fuck leaves a grill behind?

[–]Some_Belgian_Guy 2 points3 points ago

clearly you have never been to a party on a beach

[–]Bacon_Overload 0 points1 point ago

You can't go to a party if you have no friends ...

[–]Troq 1 point2 points ago

You're right I haven't. Even if I had, I can confidently say I would not leave a grill.

[–]mtheory007 0 points1 point ago

Its the ciiiiiiircle of liiiiiiife!!!

[–]jim_swanky -2 points-1 points ago

Sandy is such a bro, dude

[–]Oxtorius -2 points-1 points ago

2012! 2012! It's happening!

[–]dankhimself 4 points5 points ago

It's been happening all year!

[–]Oxtorius 1 point2 points ago

OH MY GOOOOOOOOOD

[–]taldarin -2 points-1 points ago

this is rather sad

[–]Exil-Hadler 0 points1 point ago

The great ability to heal itself, nature is wonderful.

[–]BlueThrow -2 points-1 points ago

It cost money to go to the beach in NJ, I'm in NC 2 blocks from the beach FREE BEACH FUCK YOU NEW JERSEY!!!

[–]Jaboomaphoo -2 points-1 points ago

When I heard the hurricane had hit the Jersey shore my first thought was "if anyplace needed a hurricane that would be it"

[–]staffordshiremax 0 points1 point ago

Have you ever been there?

[–]spungie -2 points-1 points ago

That's a fucken disgrace that they can leave a beach that way. I'v never seen Jersey beach show but they should be fined or the show cancelled till they clean up the beach, Having the beach looking like that for the T.V. is just sad. All that rubbish get's washed into the Ocean and people thing the beach is clean.

[–]turdeye 0 points1 point ago

Yes, MTV should clean up all 130 miles of the New Jersey coastline.

And Seaside Heights does not look like that anyway, and neither the before or after photo is from New Jersey.

[–]CaughtInTheNet -2 points-1 points ago

Hurricanes...nature's way of redistributing garbage.
