To me, it's just amazing that Jay Leno went on to such great things.

[–]lilangelfuck 29 points30 points ago

It's Juliana Wetmore if you were wondering

[–]Halsfield 49 points50 points ago

This type of thing really fucks with my head. I feel sad that the child won't have a normal life and probably loads of health problems. I feel happy that the child and mother seem happy because if they can be happy what concern of it is mine? But it just completely kicks me in the chest and almost has me feeling guilty after I just had a perfectly healthy little girl (4months old).

[–]willie_c 15 points16 points ago

It's Treacher Collins Syndrome, a craniofacial disorder with possible hearing loss. I have moderate TCS and I'm living a very normal life, healthwise.

[–]jayjr 5 points6 points ago

It looks to be highly correctable. It's fantastic how modern technology can go: http://publishmystory.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/womans-own-becky-cornell-nf-finished.jpg

[–]Hit-Enter-Too-Soon 4 points5 points ago

Thanks - I honestly wondered both what it was called and if you could live with it OK, but had no idea how to look it up.

[–]cYtRyxx 2 points3 points ago

Right, but do you think someone with a case that serious could live a normal life? Or is the case that serious? I know literally nothing about TCS.

[–]quv 4 points5 points ago

I think maybe that's normal. I have three perfectly healthy kids and it freaks me out to think of what my reaction would have been if something had gone wrong. Ah well, we're lucky and hopefully the baby will have her own sort of normal that's happy for her.

[–]why_not_agnosticism 2 points3 points ago

I studied human genetics in college, and it is a fantastic form of birth control to know all the shit that can go wrong. Granted, things like this happen very rarely, but there are a lot of totally horrific conditions out there, and after a couple years of reading about them over, and over, and over, you start to feel like they must be normal. I'm constantly amazed that so many people are born more or less completely normal. One of the most impressive things about biology, to me.

Selfish happiness eh?

[–]Skeeball_Fanatic 9 points10 points ago

Anyone interested should read this AMA:

That guy is awesome.

[–]Mud1888 7 points8 points ago

Called Treacher Collins syndrome after the Engish surgeon

[–]monkeyjay 3 points4 points ago

Dr. Philip Syndrome.

[–]fgulrd 1 point2 points ago

A) The fact is always obvious much too late, but the most singular difference between happiness and joy is that happiness is a solid and joy a liquid.

B) Everybody's a nun.

[–]PigSauce 47 points48 points ago

Oh god. That's this shitty movie's only lasting legacy.

[–]fatalconvex 30 points31 points ago

That was the greatest shitty movie ever. I was thoroughly entertained pretty much the entire time. chickenburrito

[–]Pigeon_Logic 15 points16 points ago

Battleships doing drifts. I loved it.

[–]a6stringronin 0 points1 point ago

Wait... what?! Serious?

I got to get on this movie now!

[–]ShahrozMaster -2 points-1 points ago

Haha yea

[–]CuntHunt -1 points0 points ago

what movie?

[–]8ik 8 points9 points ago

Battleship

[–]ribald86 5 points6 points ago

I find it upsetting that mocking a mother and a disabled child is acceptable.

[–]Sik_muse 1 point2 points ago

Welcome to the internet.

[–]theWolfPack 5 points6 points ago

[–]lebowskisweater 10 points11 points ago

Sloth love Chunk.

[–]Gogo_McSprinkles 6 points7 points ago

As a new mother, I can't make fun of babies anymore. My heart goes out to that poor little baby.

[–]iratusamuru 3 points4 points ago

ITT the evilest, most sickening shit I've ever read.

[–]Mrjapedo 62 points63 points ago

I don't get why people smile in these pictures. You know your not happy, because you pretty much just birthed a monster.

[–]ChefTrollzalot 54 points55 points ago

Ouch. Accurate, but still ouch.

[–]HateComics 29 points30 points ago

Cruel dude... Cruel.

[–]SemiSeriousSam 16 points17 points ago

Not monster, but I get your point.

[–]papa_bear_uk 6 points7 points ago

Ouch kabibbles

[–]Lazman101 2 points3 points ago

Actually my brother went to (goes to?) school with Juliana and her parents are locals. They're pretty nice people and very loving parents. From what he's told me Juliana acts like a fairly normal girl for her age. Of course this was three or so years ago.

[–]CaptainVulva 2 points3 points ago

She looks genuinely happy to me, surprising as that seems.

[–]Lunatox 5 points6 points ago

That's a baby with treacher-collins syndrome, I always tell people who are into weird/disturbing shit to Google it. I also enjoy googling it while I'm tripping.

[–]DrScanlon 9 points10 points ago

why the FUCK would you ever do that

[–]cultured_banana_slug 5 points6 points ago

I always imagined that as some kind of Batman-esque "Villain's Disease". A scientist studying bone degeneration and growth is attacked in his lab by his partner and best friend over a multi-million-dollar discovery. He's infected with some horrible bone-eating pathogen. He winds up hideously disfigured, almost amorphous. He loses everything. His wife is horrified. His children terrified. He can't show his face in public. In a rage he goes on to hunt down his ex-friend to exact a revenge so gruesome it happens off-panel. And this is Batman so you know it'd be horrific.

He then spends the rest of his life fighting corrupt pharma companies who care more about money than people, infecting them with the same horrific disease that took everything from him.

And he'd go by the name of The Treacher. All his hottie goon girls (because you've got to have them) would wear disfigured masks. The only time you'd see his face is in the last panel, as he reveals himself to his victims, with the tag, "Now you'll be a monster on the outside."

[–]liverleef 0 points1 point ago

Aborting it would be against gods will. Keeping it alive via cutting edge surgeries, prolonged treatments, Medical devices and medications is perfectly natural.

[–]iratusamuru 1 point2 points ago

Aborting the child as a fetus would have made it so this child never lived. Keeping them alive via feeding tubes allows them to live long, often fulfilling lives, hopefully far away from mentally ill people such as yourself who think that deformity invalidates your right to life.

huh....well its obvious that is some sort of demon and needs to be thrown into a volcano immediately...

[–]PublicUrinator 0 points1 point ago

I most of the time I'm a living socially awkward penguin post, so I'm reaching out, what the hell do you do/say in this situation where you see a baby like this? I've had a few extended family members have kids and their kids are just brutal, not to mention the parents just let themselves go entirely. Do I pretend its cute? Cause right now I'm just avoiding seeing any of them. Last time I told an aunt her baby probably has a great personality... The last baby is 3 years old now, so success.

[–]IIdsandsII 0 points1 point ago

It has its mother's smile.

is it just me or would you rather not bring someone so much pain and suffering by bringing that baby to exist?

[–]iratusamuru 1 point2 points ago

You realize that people with treacher collins can live long lives and have full use of the rest of their body, right?

[–]goobersamuel 0 points1 point ago

Just OP looking for fap material...
