Yes, they did.. almost 10 years ago. She's turned out to be quite the little trooper and has had dozens of surgeries over the years as the doctors build and create the bone structure that is missing. Look her up, her mind is just fine and all things considered, is an amazing kid.

Hi, I have Treacher Collins Syndrome, same as Juliana. Mine's not as bad as hers, but wow, does that comment feel weird. You've decided to dehumanize TCS kids because their craniofacial bones aren't exactly perfect? That doesn't make me less of a person or a human being, dude. I can still think, hear, see and process things at or above your level. There's literally nothing wrong with us except the shape of our face.
Poking fun at people for any kind of deformity, regardless of how it looks to you, is immature and baseless. Grow up.
[–]adidasaids -43 points-42 points-41 points 4 hours ago
ha! ha! serves you right, buster. just because someone shit in your DNA doesnt mean you're off limits and can't be made fun of. This is the internet dude, you need to toughen up your skin like the years of surgical scarring that adorns your "face."
Thank your mom for not aborting you, if you were my kid you would have been sucked out with the power of 150 Dysons.

[–]hotbox4u 0 points1 point2 points 21 minutes ago
you are a sad sad little man. lost in your own fears and limitations. now we all know it and i really pitty you.
the good thing indeed is that this is the internet, and that is your only shelter and you will be here forever because its the only place where you can express all you fear and sadness. you are traped in yourself.
and if you hate those guys with TCS so much, how make it you feel knowing that this guys will lead a much much happier life than you can ever imagine? with people that love them, and care for them and are happy to know them.
and you can never have it unless you get rid off all that fear and hate in your heart. but dont answer me, i dont care, its just something you should answer yourself.
[–]nevernoob 6 points7 points8 points 5 hours ago
She has Treacher-Collins syndrome. They have facial deformities but normal intelligence and personalities. I've met several kids with it.
[–]Halsfield 49 points50 points51 points 15 hours ago
This type of thing really fucks with my head. I feel sad that the child won't have a normal life and probably loads of health problems. I feel happy that the child and mother seem happy because if they can be happy what concern of it is mine? But it just completely kicks me in the chest and almost has me feeling guilty after I just had a perfectly healthy little girl (4months old).
[–]willie_c 15 points16 points17 points 5 hours ago
It's Treacher Collins Syndrome, a craniofacial disorder with possible hearing loss. I have moderate TCS and I'm living a very normal life, healthwise.
[–]jayjr 5 points6 points7 points 3 hours ago
It looks to be highly correctable. It's fantastic how modern technology can go: http://publishmystory.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/womans-own-becky-cornell-nf-finished.jpg
[–]Hit-Enter-Too-Soon 4 points5 points6 points 4 hours ago
Thanks - I honestly wondered both what it was called and if you could live with it OK, but had no idea how to look it up.
[–]cYtRyxx 2 points3 points4 points 3 hours ago
Right, but do you think someone with a case that serious could live a normal life? Or is the case that serious? I know literally nothing about TCS.
[–]quv 4 points5 points6 points 11 hours ago
I think maybe that's normal. I have three perfectly healthy kids and it freaks me out to think of what my reaction would have been if something had gone wrong. Ah well, we're lucky and hopefully the baby will have her own sort of normal that's happy for her.
[–]why_not_agnosticism 2 points3 points4 points 5 hours ago
I studied human genetics in college, and it is a fantastic form of birth control to know all the shit that can go wrong. Granted, things like this happen very rarely, but there are a lot of totally horrific conditions out there, and after a couple years of reading about them over, and over, and over, you start to feel like they must be normal. I'm constantly amazed that so many people are born more or less completely normal. One of the most impressive things about biology, to me.

[–]DrScanlon 9 points10 points11 points 8 hours ago
why the FUCK would you ever do that
[–]cultured_banana_slug 5 points6 points7 points 6 hours ago
I always imagined that as some kind of Batman-esque "Villain's Disease". A scientist studying bone degeneration and growth is attacked in his lab by his partner and best friend over a multi-million-dollar discovery. He's infected with some horrible bone-eating pathogen. He winds up hideously disfigured, almost amorphous. He loses everything. His wife is horrified. His children terrified. He can't show his face in public. In a rage he goes on to hunt down his ex-friend to exact a revenge so gruesome it happens off-panel. And this is Batman so you know it'd be horrific.
He then spends the rest of his life fighting corrupt pharma companies who care more about money than people, infecting them with the same horrific disease that took everything from him.
And he'd go by the name of The Treacher. All his hottie goon girls (because you've got to have them) would wear disfigured masks. The only time you'd see his face is in the last panel, as he reveals himself to his victims, with the tag, "Now you'll be a monster on the outside."
[–]liverleef 0 points1 point2 points 6 hours ago
Aborting it would be against gods will. Keeping it alive via cutting edge surgeries, prolonged treatments, Medical devices and medications is perfectly natural.
[–]iratusamuru 1 point2 points3 points 2 hours ago
Aborting the child as a fetus would have made it so this child never lived. Keeping them alive via feeding tubes allows them to live long, often fulfilling lives, hopefully far away from mentally ill people such as yourself who think that deformity invalidates your right to life.

I most of the time I'm a living socially awkward penguin post, so I'm reaching out, what the hell do you do/say in this situation where you see a baby like this? I've had a few extended family members have kids and their kids are just brutal, not to mention the parents just let themselves go entirely. Do I pretend its cute? Cause right now I'm just avoiding seeing any of them. Last time I told an aunt her baby probably has a great personality... The last baby is 3 years old now, so success.

I think it's cruel and selfish for someone to keep that alive. There's no way they will have any good quality of life. Their life will be spent in agony every day.
[–]foodandart 11 points12 points13 points 11 hours ago
She's fine and is nearly 10 now.. granted, she's still getting surgeries and will until her facial bones are acceptable to her.. But instead of judging from one post, why don't you read up on this girl - Juliana Wetmore - and her condition.
[–]doodlebugboodles 7 points8 points9 points 13 hours ago
"that"? So you get to decide if "that" is human based on how it looks to you?
[–]j_chenks 2 points3 points4 points 12 hours ago
I would have said "that" as well because with out doing some reading you don't know if its female or male.
[–]Diagonaldog -1 points0 points1 point 11 hours ago
Its the exact reaction that child will face in just about every person it will ever meet. And with a deformity that severe you can almost guarantee there are going to be complications in mental health as well.
[–]random_but_sober 4 points5 points6 points 11 hours ago

[–]goobersamuel 0 points1 point2 points 5 hours ago
Just OP looking for fap material...
[–]Cheesus56 -24 points-23 points-22 points 11 hours ago
Yeah... That "human" (I don't think of that as a human, as it is so severely deformed...) (Correct me if i'm wrong) isn't gonna live a long, happy, healthy life. They get a lot of health problems, probably get their quality of life greatly affected from the social and psychological problems that come with your fucking face being all deformed... And when it comes to getting a job, or a girlfriend/boyfriend... HONESTLY, would you WANT any physical contact with something that looks like that? Would you HIRE something who looked like that? I mean HONESTLY. Look deep inside of yourself, and find an answer. Sure, some may trick themselves into saying yes, and some may actually mean yes. I wouldn't know, I can't go into your brain and see if you mean what you write. And I wouldn't care enough, anyways. Just find an honest answer for YOURSELF, and I bet most of you would say no to both of those questions. But seriously. That looks sick, and it is sick. People like that shouldn't live, in my opinion really. In my opinion, they are worth nothing, considering all of their health problems.
TL;DR: I think "people" who are deformed like that should be put down.
[–]random_but_sober 10 points11 points12 points 11 hours ago*
Yeah, you're wrong. She's almost 10 now. Your TL;DR is SICK. What the fuck gives you the right to say this girl deserves death?! You are seriously the most disgusting type of person.
[–]arcanesexmachine 3 points4 points5 points 9 hours ago
Lots of really terrible people in this thread. She is a human being ffs. Thanks for fighting the good fight.
[–]Cheesus56 -7 points-6 points-5 points 11 hours ago
I am sick. Now we have THAT established. But think about it a little, isn't this a case that goes on opinion? There is no objective way of measuring someones worth. But I find it easier to objectify their usefulness. But then again, what IS useful, and what is not useful? I am thinking about what is useful in MOST jobs. My opinion is simply that people who get severe health problems are less useful, and therefore less worth. And my view on what is people and what is not was not really relevant, so I am sorry if my view on what can be considered human was offending. What I MEANT to say was that people who need medical care, and cost society more than the value they create, they are no longer useful. For me, any given persons usefulness is equal to their worth.
[–]Physion 4 points5 points6 points 8 hours ago
Yeah, Stephen Hawking sure is useless because it costs some money to take care of him.
There's nothing wrong with her brain. People with disabilities can offer more to society than not costing a lot to medically take care of. I can't believe I had to actually tell someone that.
[–]filladellfea 5 points6 points7 points 10 hours ago
You appear to know what you want. You shouldn't assume to know exactly what other people want. It's one thing to not keep a baby for the sake of the baby's health. It's another thing because you don't like the way the baby looks.
I'm staunch pro choice - emphasis on choice. If me and my future wife discovered that our fetus had this type of deformity, I would probably want to abort it. But, again, that's a decision each person gets to make individually. I think your opinion that people with these deformities must be put down is just as bad as pro-life assholes who want to impose their ridiculous beliefs on everyone else.
[–]Cheesus56 -9 points-8 points-7 points 10 hours ago
Oh no, I don't think they MUST be put down. Just SHOULD be put down. Completely different. Its not like I am crazy enough to ACT on this. Besides, how would I gain control over the world?
[–]quv 2 points3 points4 points 10 hours ago
I, for one, am quite glad you're not in charge of who gets to live and who doesn't. Not all of us are shallow like you are. I've worked with and even dated people who had some sort of "deformity," and because I'm mentally an adult, it never caused problems.
[–]Cheesus56 -10 points-9 points-8 points 10 hours ago
I'm not being shallow. I am thinking about people's usefulness to society. If someone costs more than the value they create, they are worthless.
[–]Physion 5 points6 points7 points 8 hours ago
It cost over $100,000 US dollars to keep me alive when I was born three months premature in 1986. Now I'm a physicist. Should my parents have let me die because it cost a lot of money to keep me alive? They had no idea that 25 years later I'd end up as a scientist, so by your logic, they should have probably let me die, right?
Who are you to judge how useful someone is to society? How do you know this kid won't grow up and develop the cure for AIDS or some shit? How do you know the compassion and love and understanding she has brought to people haven't changed them in some way that betters society as a whole?
Your argument is fucked up.
[–]quv 2 points3 points4 points 8 hours ago
You're looking at it purely from a financial perspective. That's shallow, IMO. People are worth more than just money.
[–]velocom 1 point2 points3 points 7 hours ago
Your time's up, kid. You just exceeded your ROI with that comment.
[–]unsightly_brown_lawn 1 point2 points3 points 10 hours ago

[–]Cheesus56 -2 points-1 points0 points 10 hours ago

[–]unsightly_brown_lawn 1 point2 points3 points 8 hours ago
Well, I don't want to spoil the book for you... But I will say that the part I'm referencing is a big reveal, and a fucked up mechanism of their society.
[–]Cheesus56 0 points1 point2 points 3 minutes ago
What, that they kill people with disabilities? Yeah, read that.
[–]iratusamuru 0 points1 point2 points 2 hours ago
Wow, for someone who doesn't know jack shit, you sure have a lot to say about things you don't know jack shit about.
The disgusting one here is you. I'd also wager from your apathy that you're much more worthless a creature than the people you disparage, as it's likely they have people who love them, where as you were clearly nurtured out of grudging responsibility.
