I'm a little uptight but I can't enjoi this pic at all for the simple fact that logic is being overlooked in a glaring way.

[–]strongmanunh 38 points39 points ago

I feel the same about the scale....

[–]mike_sol 14 points15 points ago

Nah, you could get a picture like that with a zoom lens

[–]startrucks 6 points7 points ago

Yeah, like who the hell would drink Carlsberg.

[–]digitag 1 point2 points ago

"Houston? Yes I confirm it still tastes like piss"

[–]pushthecharacterlimi 22 points23 points ago

I totally agree. That beer would be frozen over.

[–]fluffy_cat 31 points32 points ago

Wouldn't it have boiled, not frozen?

[–]fuckshitwank 8 points9 points ago

Apparently water boils at 26°C in a vacuum so I pushthecharacterlimi could be correct. The beer's catching fairly direct sunlight though so he'd better drink it fast (through some aperture in his suit, of course).

I would guess that the CO2 would disappear far more quickly in the lower pressure so again the beer would go flat if the astronaut didn't drink it soon.

I can't find figures for ethanol.

[–]Gazoza 11 points12 points ago

Drinking through the helmet will probably be an issue too.

[–]JERKFACE9000 5 points6 points ago

That's why you have to have an emergency induction port (Though which your body gets sucked out into the vacuum of space).

[–]Derpsicles 8 points9 points ago

Depends where it was, the surface temperature of the moon varies between about -150 to about 100 degrees C

[–]fluffy_cat 32 points33 points ago

Ah, yes, but in a vacuum, the low (well, non-existent) pressure would cause any liquid to boil, even at extremely low temperatures. Beer freezes at about -2°C at atmospheric pressure, but in a vacuum I have no idea.

[–]hoodie92 18 points19 points ago

I love how you are discussing the complicated physics of boiling vs. freezing on the moon, and seemed to have completely forgotten that he can't drink through his helmet.

[–]xteve 16 points17 points ago

Plus Carlsberg is undrinkable.

[–]redpenquin 2 points3 points ago

My father once said "Carlsberg is for people who want to drink piss, but don't want to be seen holding a Budweiser."

It might be the most accurate thing I've ever heard.

[–]Lolworth -1 points0 points ago

And that it would have trouble staying in the bottle

[–]Mobidad 1 point2 points ago

Disregarding the possible boiling scenario, why?

You do know that there is gravity on the moon, gravity is what keeps beer in the bottle on earth.

[–]Derpsicles 4 points5 points ago

Cool, didn't know that :)

[–]vijrox 1 point2 points ago

It would most likely be frozen by the time it's opened, then rapidly sublimate once opened.

[–]antivist 0 points1 point ago

...and how's the poor guy going to get the beer into his mouth!?

[–]seventhletters 13 points14 points ago

yeah, well the beer would be frozen over, but the glass would probably crack too. Not to mention if the beer is outside his suit, how the fuck is he drinking it? It's not like he can flick up the gold mask and take a swig no big deal.

[–]Skvid 15 points16 points ago

Maybe if hes really quick about it...

[–]FolloweroftheAtom 5 points6 points ago

Emergency Induction Port

[–]pushthecharacterlimi 2 points3 points ago

If there's anything I learned from watching cartoons in my youth, it's this.. And by youth, I mean yesterday.

[–]svrnmnd -1 points0 points ago

also there is no way to drink it...you know ... with the visor and all...

[–]brandonw00 4 points5 points ago

Haha same here. When the pic loaded I angrily said to myself, "the Earth doesn't look that big from the moon!"

[–]PNut_Buttr_Panda 0 points1 point ago

They have developed new way to get the beer through the mask it seems.

[–]Flaba44 0 points1 point ago

I agree. How would he open that shit with gloves?

[–]jonathanrdt 27 points28 points ago

There are so many things wrong with this picture.

It's like that page from Highlights.

[–]bigleaguechewbacca 36 points37 points ago

How does he drink it? I mean even if he could open that visor up i'm pretty sure that beer is mad icy.

[–]Jigsus 10 points11 points ago

That's actually touched upon in the video version of this ad. He then bumps his visor with the beer.

[–]shays 3 points4 points ago

Found it, the still happens at 0:39, the punchline is at the end (duh).

[–]dcgi 10 points11 points ago

Needs more sharpen

[–]im_a_land_mine 0 points1 point ago

Ha, over-sharpening is a pet peeve. Really cool picture otherwise

[–]Upvote4justice 0 points1 point ago

Could also use some lens flare

[–]Jehosh 4 points5 points ago

One small sip for man, one giant swig for mankind.

[–]Stevenator1 11 points12 points ago

Even with the glaring logical issues, I absolutely love the detail in the picture, including the footprints in the moon dust.

[–]The_holy 1 point2 points ago

They probably just build the set and the actor walked around in it. This was a part of the "That calls, for a Carlsberg" comercials.

[–]travie17 3 points4 points ago

goes to take a sip, 'clink'

[–]Thisisopposite 3 points4 points ago

Great picture, wish it didn't have Carlsberg in it though...

[–]FaxeDane 6 points7 points ago

It's from a Danish advertisement for Carlsberg.

That calls for a Carlsberg

[–]HCakaIDUDE 4 points5 points ago

As a Dane who has his own storage of Carlsberg (and other beer).

This calls for a Calls for a Carlsberg!

[–]idrink211 -2 points-1 points ago

At first I thought it possibly was a reference to Carl Sagan.

[–]silverflowers 1 point2 points ago

Carl Sagan/Heisenburg

[–]claytonhulme -1 points0 points ago

Can someone make this into an iPhone size pic?

[–]QuintinT 1 point2 points ago

Here you go: http://i.imgur.com/UuTFR.jpg

I tested it on my iPhone 4 and it looks fine

[–]claytonhulme 1 point2 points ago

Oooohhhhh. It's really stretched out and doesn't look right. Nice try though.

[–]QuintinT 0 points1 point ago

Yeah it sucks haha

[–]giansolo 0 points1 point ago

best I could do http://imgur.com/JOoHE

[–]claytonhulme -1 points0 points ago

That's damn near perfect

[–]psuedopseudo 2 points3 points ago

holy shit! I just bought this poster from Copenhagen a week ago and put it in my room yesterday. GET OUT OF MY HEAD

[–]Khephran 0 points1 point ago

Can i have a link?

[–]khg002 1 point2 points ago

you wouldnt need a cooler on the mood...jerk jerk jerk

[–]JustAnotherRedditor1 1 point2 points ago

Artist?

[–]BootstrapsBootstrapz 1 point2 points ago

Good thing he has that cooler though.... You know for the beers he's drinking

[–]reiphil 1 point2 points ago

/r/askscience What happens if you were to open a soda in the vacuum of space?

[–]Antrikshy 1 point2 points ago

Moon is dangerously close to the Earth in this photo. But I love it.

[–]br00t 0 points1 point ago

he needs to have a sippy cup/bag of beer inside his spacesuit!

[–]Khiraji 1 point2 points ago

The earth is way too close.

[–]80sweens 1 point2 points ago

they went all the way to the moon to make this commercial

[–]fatkidseatcake 1 point2 points ago

"Find your planet."

[–]CytotoxicT 1 point2 points ago

I like the picture. But I wish Carlsberg had adapted their slogan and wrote, "probably the best beer in the galaxy."

[–]EpicnessOfMonkeyNips 0 points1 point ago

Find your beach.

Corona.

[–]mr_wave[!] 0 points1 point ago

That calls for a Carlsberg! So proud of coming from Denmark!

[–]Lolworth 0 points1 point ago

OK, am I the only one who thinks the guy looks like he's having a reclined fap?

[–]PileOfClothes 0 points1 point ago

I can't even upvote this picture due to how many errors it just... ruins it...

[–]frankThePlank 0 points1 point ago

Literally. Assuming he opens his visor to drink.

[–]shredded_anus 0 points1 point ago

there is no beer in the reflection of his visor!!

[–]codybrianjames 0 points1 point ago

Will somebody please make that a bottle of coke?!

[–]claytonhulme 0 points1 point ago

Well we can sure try again, can't we ole chap??

[–]tacobellassasin 0 points1 point ago

how the hell is he supposed to drink that

[–]Kellbell12 0 points1 point ago

Kick back and pretend that you can enjoy that beer.

[–]WeldingMouse 0 points1 point ago

Bottle 'o Skunk

[–]hurgledurgle 0 points1 point ago

*tink*

"Damnit!"

[–]Sporka 0 points1 point ago

It's funny because all the carbon dioxide would bubble out of the beer instantaneously if it were in the vacuum of space.

[–]DoctorBurns 0 points1 point ago

How will he drink that?

[–]LargeSharp88 0 points1 point ago

How's he gonna drink that beer?

[–]Confuzledish -1 points0 points ago

Astronaut, what are you doing? You can't drink beer with your helmet on. Astronaut. Stahp!

[–]Domje 2 points3 points ago

Carlsberg don't do moonlandings, but if they did they would be the greatest moonlanding ever.

Houston, not Euston.

[–]Monsterzz 0 points1 point ago

on the moon you don't see stars in the background.

[–]idrink211 0 points1 point ago

Not on the bright side, at least.

[–]wookash 2 points3 points ago

False. You can see some stars from the surface of the moon - you don't see them in the Apollo pictures because the exposure was set to capture the landscape properly. It just wasn't possible to expose for both.

[–]HalogenFisk 0 points1 point ago

Neil Armstrong said he didn't see any stars for all the bright objects in his field of view in a 1970 press conference.

I'd link to the video, but they all have pro-hoax narration.

I imagine if you shielded your eyes from all the sunlit objects, they would adjust to let you see the dimmer light of the stars.. he was just a bit busy to bother.

[–]shorts02blue -2 points-1 points ago

I feel like it needs dos equis...
