As a guy who stuck out hurricane Wilma in Fort Lauderdale in 2005, watched as mini waterspouts tore across the canal behind my house, and went to school out of a hotel for 3 months, I feel the same way.

A woman once said to me as we were on a plane landing in Fort Lauderdale about 8 months after Wilma "Huh....are blue roofs a trend down here or something?". I stifled a laugh and explained that these were tarps from people having their roofs ripped off by the storm.

I totally agree. I'm living up in Baltimore now, and all of my friends are acting like little bitches about Sandy. It's a Category 1 -_-

To be fair, categories don't really explain the whole story. I'm from New Orleans, and because we have to climb to get to sea level, storm surge, size, and speed of movement are usually more important. Sandy looks to be HUGE; even though winds aren't going to be a big deal, there will probably be plenty of water damage and power outages, esp. because they aren't prepared for this sort of storm.

With that said, it's probably going to be as bad as a moderate storm with our hurricane factory of a gulf below us.
