AW THE LITTLE HAMMER

[–]failsocks 49 points50 points ago

The hammer is what had me give the man (and his God) an upvote. I aww'd so loudly my own animals felt loved.

[–]Ceejae 4 points5 points ago

Doesn't it usually go the other way when we show love to pets that are not our own? Your pets are probably practising juggling right now because they think you've moved on.

[–]MericaMan4Life 18 points19 points ago

yeah it was that little hammer that got to me. made me aww like a little girl.

[–]marilynbmonroe 13 points14 points ago

Just noticed the little hammer and that has to be the cutest damn thing I have ever seen

[–]brotherno 11 points12 points ago

The first thing I thought to myself was "HE HAS A TINY HAMMER OH MY GOD"

[–]zerocaloriecola 4 points5 points ago

d'awwwwwww

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 83 points84 points ago

He is a God. he is destined to succeed.

[–]TotesMaScroats 24 points25 points ago

Serious question: how easy are hedgehogs to care for?

[–]trebory6 40 points41 points ago

They have special needs, they aren't like hamsters, hedgehogs require a specific temperature and cage conditions to live. If it's too hot, they get heat exhaustion, if it's too cold they go into hibernation and die.

[–]mobilehighway 23 points24 points ago

:'c

[–]hifibry 3 points4 points ago

They seem so keyeut and helpless awwww

[–]SNAAAAAAAAAKE 5 points6 points ago

Welp, can't keep one in Texas. During winter one day it will be 100 and 38 the next day.

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 10 points11 points ago

Thor lives in tejas.

[–]Pick6 9 points10 points ago

Lol. I'm from Texas, I had a hedgehog when I was younger. It can be done. I loved that little bastard. They run a lot. I miss Henry.

[–]danguro 0 points1 point ago

He ran to be like his hero. Godspeed Henry (; -;)7

[–]trebory6 1 point2 points ago

Well, you don't keep them outside, you keep them in a cage with a heat lamp/heat mat.

[–]scopetacticz 0 points1 point ago

So that is why mine died...

[–]Ceejae 2 points3 points ago

Also because you fed it nothing but laxatives. And then ran over it with a bus.

[–]scopetacticz 0 points1 point ago

If only I understood that reference :c

[–]Sheather 3 points4 points ago

Reference?

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 6 points7 points ago

serious answer: How easy is it to care for a pet potato?

[–]springwheat 4 points5 points ago

Why don't we ask POTATO_IN_MY_ANUS

[–]joebob613 0 points1 point ago

For obvious reasons.

[–]i_slapp_racist_faces 0 points1 point ago

RIP to him and all the other accounts shadow banned for no fucking reason

[–]RockinTheKevbot 2 points3 points ago

what trebory6 said. Its not too awful but not something that should be done on a whim. Id say the level of care is a good middle point between Beta fish and dog.

[–]fdg456n -2 points-1 points ago

Dogs are hell easy to take care of though. Just keep an open bag of dog biscuits and a bowl of water around and they'll be fine.

[–]erraticschematic 41 points42 points ago

I LIKE THIS HEDGEHOG. hug ANOTHER!

[–]RockinTheKevbot 10 points11 points ago

HUG ALLLLL THE HEDGEHOGS!!!

[–]LurkingGaga 3 points4 points ago

EXCEPT SONIC! :C

[–]Ceejae 1 point2 points ago

What the hell makes sonic think he's so special?

[–]FragHaven 29 points30 points ago

That is so cute I just crapped out my pancreas.

[–]IcedJack 31 points32 points ago

How'd you get him to keep a hold of Mjollnir?

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 131 points132 points ago

told him id give him some berries if he held that shit for a few seconds.

[–]larrynom 19 points20 points ago

the hammer deemed him worthy.

[–]LeXy1337 80 points81 points ago

Seems like you are squeezing him to death... his little bugeyes are poppin' out

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 144 points145 points ago

you think its that easy to slay a demigod? wishful thinking

[–]michaelconnery1985 5 points6 points ago

Is that a hedgehog? How does one acquire it? Serious question

[–]Pick6 17 points18 points ago

Get a rainbow bridge

[–]clubdepizza 3 points4 points ago

Obtain a tesseract.

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 6 points7 points ago

You need a lot of d'awws and even more money. then find a local breeder.

[–]michaelconnery1985 0 points1 point ago

My area does not allow sale of hedgehogs :[

[–]xkevsx 4 points5 points ago

you can get hedgehogs at a terraristic market (don't know the english word for those "markets" where you can get exotic animals from breeders)

but i only saw the african hedgehogs, but i guess they are kind of the same (maybe different temp.)

[–]reversepsychosis 0 points1 point ago

African hedgehogs are the most common.

[–]Lavatis 2 points3 points ago

It depends on your location, really. In my town, we actually have a hedgehog breeder or two. They run from 100-300 dollars usually. They can live from 2-8 years in captivity, and have to be at a temperature between 70-80 at all times, or you risk them potentially hibernating on you. If they go into hibernation, it's pretty much death from my understanding.

They're cute creatures, but as far as pets are concerned they're just cute. They don't form bonds with people really, and they'll probably never enjoy you holding them. But if you're into that kind of pet that runs on its wheel at 2am for a few hours and looks cute 100% of the time, then it might be for you.

They're really cute in the water.

[–]Renxwar 0 points1 point ago

Upvote for this comment, as a former hedgehog owner. The ladies loved him, but he was unfortunately just a novelty because he was so anti-social.

[–]amberthecat 0 points1 point ago

What about higher temps than 80? It reaches 100 regularly during the summer where I live.

[–]Lavatis 0 points1 point ago

As long as you keep their habitat's temperature in that range (70-80) then he's fine, but if a hedgehog gets too hot, it goes into estivation.

I don't know a lot about estivation, save that it's just as dangerous as hibernation.

www.hedgehogcentral.com is an excellent resource.

[–]jbjessums 0 points1 point ago

OP's parents house is usually at about 81, And Thor has stayed there for a whole summer. As long as your house isn't 100 degrees as well... You should be just fine. :)

[–]MontanaBanana44 12 points13 points ago

Like one of those stress balls where the guy's eyes pop out...

[–]Rvish 10 points11 points ago

Hamsters?

[–]Eaux 9 points10 points ago

Nah. Hedgehogs just have little beady lil' eyes. But.. I'm not sure if he's squeezing the hedgehog or if its just obese..

[–]Greellx 5 points6 points ago

It's definitely fat. I had one like him named "Piggy"....oddly, when I named him that, he was skinny...product of his environment, I suppose...

[–]RockinTheKevbot 5 points6 points ago

"Give me a dozen healthy hedgehogs, well-formed, and my own specified world to bring them up in and I'll guarantee to take any one at random and train him to become any type of specialist I might select – fat hog, skinny hog, Demi-God hog, Hog who eats golden rings and, yes, even the hog who shits all over his running wheel, regardless of his talents, penchants, tendencies, abilities, vocations, and species of his ancestors. I am going beyond my facts and I admit it, but so have the advocates of the contrary and they have been doing it for many thousands of years" John B. Watson

[–]mahuzair 66 points67 points ago

On a daily basis I get called an unforgiving hell-spawn of a man.

This made me 'AWWWW' so loud my girlfriend ran in from the other room to see what made me make that noise.

[–]FoieTorchon 19 points20 points ago

I think maybe your hedgehog is fat

[–]Today_is_Thursday 18 points19 points ago

Omg that butt... So squishy!

[–]pandapoweredrickshaw 31 points32 points ago

  1. Only Thor can pick the Mjollnir.
  2. Hedgehog is holding the Mjollnir.
  3. OP is holding hedgehog.
  4. OP is Thor?

[–]FoxtimusPrime 17 points18 points ago

OP is more like Odin i guess

[–]Goat_Porker 5 points6 points ago

Upvote for impeccable logic!

[–]Richeh 0 points1 point ago

Yes, OP is probably Thor. But to be honest I'd expect a hedgehog owner to know better than to try this without thick gloves.

[–]Thor4269 0 points1 point ago

I am not OP

[–]Richeh 3 points4 points ago

Presumably there are at least four thousand, two hundred and sixty eight other gods of thunder on Reddit. It's not so far fetched that one is a hedgehog and another is his human flatmate. In fact, I would watch that sitcom.

[–]Thor4269 1 point2 points ago

and now i want to watch it too...

[–]Thor4269 0 points1 point ago

Actually, you can lift the person lifting mjolnir because the hammer is in the hands of a person who is worthy which allows them to move and handle it.

[–]Dr_Turkey 13 points14 points ago

For the people concerned about the way he's holding the hedgehog

It's the dude's pet, I'm sure he knows how to hold it.

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 13 points14 points ago

No Dr_Turkey. You are wrong. I decided to take a picture of me killing my fat little hedgehog, and I decided r/aww would be the most appropriate place to post it so the thousands of upvoters would be unwittingly giving me karma for murder.

Logic.

[–]Dr_Turkey 1 point2 points ago

Well that's not very nice :(

[–]bootyslayer 12 points13 points ago

THAT IS THE CUTEST FUCKING SMILE

[–]mcampa 9 points10 points ago

Awww!!! Wish I had more up votes for him :)

[–]shackles-omwt 9 points10 points ago

SO. MUCH. PUDGE.

[–]earlysong 9 points10 points ago

New desktop background.

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 4 points5 points ago

welcome

[–]jbjessums 9 points10 points ago

Here's an album of more of Thor's pictures. :) OP is boyfriend. He is a happy and spoiled hedgehog with beady little eyes. He isn't being squeezed to death. We love this little chode. http://imgur.com/a/lLDzZ

[–]jwick89 6 points7 points ago

You people are so petty and tiny.

[–]Lemon_Tile 5 points6 points ago

Quit hoggin' the thunder Thor!

[–]WorshipThyBacon 3 points4 points ago

How are these things as pets? Does it take a while for them to get used to you and not bite your finger off? You seem to be able to hold him without his spikes ripping through your fingers.

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 10 points11 points ago

Thor has been extremely easy to care for. As long as you give him food, a wheel, and keep his cage clean (with the occasional bath) he is a content, fat little potato. He has only bitten me maybe 5 times since we got him as a baby, and that stopped within the first 4 months or so.

[–]Kaywin 1 point2 points ago

Hedgehog spikes aren't at all like porcupine quills - much shorter and not nearly as sharp.

[–]RockinTheKevbot 1 point2 points ago

They don't really bite out of aggression. If they bite its because you has flavor or smell and they are curious. The spikes I'd equate to sort of like tooth picks so imagine holding a 1 lb ball of tooth picks you feel the points but its not so bad. The level of care is about the middle ground between goldfish and dog.

/r/hedgehog

[–]Pick6 1 point2 points ago

and their biting isn't even that bad. kinda just tickles. my hog was more of a licker though.

[–]npott438 3 points4 points ago

Doth mother know you weareth her handkerchief?

[–]arcman001 2 points3 points ago

Let fly the hogs of war!

[–]RockinTheKevbot 9 points10 points ago

[–]ScratchyMcItchyballs 2 points3 points ago

Your hedgehog is part water balloon.

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 3 points4 points ago

I cannot deny this claim.

[–]NCRZombie -1 points0 points ago

I've never had a hedgehog so I can't attest to how they're built, but are you sure you're not hurting it? Looks like you've got more than a 'firm' grip going on.

[–]Sir_Lilja 2 points3 points ago

I've never had a hedgehog

And OP has. I'm sure he knows what he's doing.

Ever held a cat? Hedgehogs are a bit like that, kind of like you're holding jelly. Their skin and fat will flop around.

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 4 points5 points ago

This man knows his fat animals. He knows them well.

[–]plinking_zombies 0 points1 point ago

Probably just seeking reassurance.

[–]talflick 2 points3 points ago

best username. ever.

Cutest god in all of Aawsgard!

[–]dilly1992 2 points3 points ago

[–]DoodleCreator 0 points1 point ago

this is fucking adorable :)

[–]Youcanbeasuperhero2 0 points1 point ago

How long did it take to tie the hammer to its hand

[–]nofelix 2 points3 points ago

i dunno how long does superglue take to dry?

[–]BruceJuice25 1 point2 points ago

I squealed.

[–]lobphin 0 points1 point ago

That is insanely adorable and awesome.

[–]Kolmas_Gerald 0 points1 point ago

That fucking smirk on his face is what did it for me.

[–]TypingRandomLetters 0 points1 point ago

It took me a while to see the hammer.

[–]tree_bear 0 points1 point ago

They have surprisingly long legs.

[–]zombiegogo 0 points1 point ago

I can't. I CAN'T!!! I'm dead. Ahhhhh

[–]Mirdan 2 points3 points ago

[–]TheNitwon 1 point2 points ago

This is awesome. Upvote from a bereaved hog owner. :]

[–]Kbear52 1 point2 points ago

Aww that's cute I gue...HE'S GOT A LITTLE HAMMER! OMG

[–]oStarchild 0 points1 point ago

Makes me miss mine! They're awesome lets except when you step on quills... I moved and my new landlord wanted me to keep mine in the garage. Wouldn't have been fair to him

Get four more and make the Avengers!!

[–]paramilitarykeet 0 points1 point ago

Please, please come to r/ hedgehog and post this!

[–]Braddderyisasloot 1 point2 points ago

It looks like you are squeezing him really hard. Is that just me?

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 5 points6 points ago

it is just you.

[–]redone14 1 point2 points ago

How does this ONLY have 156 upvotes??

[–]Sick_of_Life -2 points-1 points ago

is it just me or is he squeezing that poor thing a bit too tight....(looks that way anyhow)

[–]secretgspot -4 points-3 points ago

are you sure you're supposed to hold them like that?

[–]trebory6 -2 points-1 points ago

You look like you're squeezing his poor little eyes out.

[–]says_things_will_die -1 points0 points ago

Thor, The Hog of Thunder will someday die.

[–]Eaux -5 points-4 points ago

The squeezing is one thing, but is that a string wrapped around his neck?

Seriously?

You realize if he curls up into a defensive stance he'll choke himself to death, right? It's the same reason that hedgehogs can't wear ferret harnesses.

[–]quister 4 points5 points ago

The cape isn't tied on its being held on by his quills

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 3 points4 points ago

thank you for your concern. if only you had intervened sooner. Thor curled up and his head was ripped clean off soon after this picture was taken. The world needs more people like you. R.I.P Thor. 2011-2012

[–]Eaux 0 points1 point ago

I asked a question out of concern. Don't have to hide behind anonymity on the internet be a prick about it.

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 2 points3 points ago

I hide behind my demigod.

[–]Eaux 1 point2 points ago

Watch out for Jormungandrs

[–]nonchalant_redditor 0 points1 point ago

If he curls up wouldn't the cape just curl with him? It wouldn't tighten up I think

[–]LiKuidPhantom -1 points0 points ago

Where's Loki?

[–]PBnJames 0 points1 point ago

You are cheating at reddit.

[–]HouseOfleavesAgain -4 points-3 points ago

Think you could squeeze him any harder. Shesh.

[–]Thumb_in_Bumb[S] 2 points3 points ago

shesh
