It's like I always say, "I would do anything to lose weight . . . except eat healthy and exercise."

[–]A7X4REVer 5 points6 points ago

This needs to be a quote. Like right now. Can someone make this a quote??? Like with a really good, inspirational picture!

[–]obliterationn 54 points55 points ago

"I would do anything to lose weight . . . except eat healthy and exercise." - Abraham Lincoln

[–]xnerdyxrealistx 9 points10 points ago

- Michael Scott

[–]url404 1 point2 points ago

Ha I remember hearing that from when Steve Martin hosted the Oscars. Classic line.

[–]AustinTreeLover 1 point2 points ago

I honestly thought I made it up. I've been saying it for a few years now.

I am disappoint.

[–]url404 3 points4 points ago

Sorry dude.

There's an Australian band called "Something For Kate" that has a line in one of their songs "You're not the first to think that everything has been thought before."

I always liked that one.

[–]girlshaped 0 points1 point ago

Upboats for Something For Kate!

[–]Colby2012NeverForget -1 points0 points ago

Well, the only thing that remains is to age back a couple of years until you are twenty or less. Those magical years...

[–]Airbag_UpYourAss -3 points-2 points ago

This comment and the post is the perfect example of the sterotype that fat people are lazy. Yes, some people have conditions they cannot control. But others just eat and refuse to excercise thinking nothing will happen to them. In reality, I do think many (not all) fat people are in fact lazy.

[–]AustinTreeLover 1 point2 points ago

It was a joke. I'm actually very fit. But, it is because I eat right (for the most part) and exercise.

[–]Airbag_UpYourAss 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, the fact that it was a joke was clear as day. Just my two cents on obesity. I think fat people are in fact lazy to some extent.

[–]AustinTreeLover 4 points5 points ago

Oh. I see what you're saying.

To some degree, it's got to be genetic. I've known lazy people who eat whatever they want and never gain an ounce. Even had a friend who was a gaming addict (for real), only ate Taco Bell and drank sodas (seriously, his game room was covered in soda Coke cans). He was rail thin (and pale, lol).

And I mean, after turning 40 I had to start working twice as hard to stay the same size. So, there has to be more to it than effort.

Also, someone can work really hard in one area and be lazy in another. Like, you could work really hard at your job as a writer or programmer, put lots of hours in, but just be "lazy" about exercising. People are different. I try not to judge.

I would agree there are a lot of people out there who don't move at all, eat whatever, gain weight and don't understand why. And some people have the impression that everyone who works out just "loves" it! Not true. I work out because I hate working out only very slightly less than being fat. My mom is LAZY as fuck, laziest person I ever met - rich and lazy. She was nearly 300 pounds until she had lapband surgery. I'd see her and say, "Fuck that," and go for a run. Lol.

I know you didn't mean to start a serious discussion, but since you brought it up, I gave it some thought. I'm curious, are you overweight? If not, do you work out? Eat right?

I'm thinking of doing an /r/askreddit about this. I'm curious now.

[–]unicornempire 2 points3 points ago

I just gotta say, everyone is different, and everyone has different issues. I gained a lot of weight when my little sister that I practically raised died suddenly, and trust me before that I had some emotional eating issues already due to a fucked up childhood. Whenever people judge other people they don't know why that person might be apathetic towards their weight, or not find time for it, or just not have the emotional energy to cook themselves vegetables and chicken for dinner every night or whatever people might consider 'healthy eating'.

I just remember catching a few minutes of that Biggest Loser show, and there was a woman on there who was obviously very overweight, and she told the story of how she used to be average, but one night she got really bad stomach cramps and her husband took her to the hospital. It wasn't anything major, but when her husband and daughter were driving home they were both killed by a drunk driver- This woman lost her entire family in a single night, and probably blames herself for it. Seriously, I do not blame her a single ounce for not giving a shit about her weight, because honestly the death of a loved one as I have gone through is incredibly difficult and damaging, and this poor woman lost her entire family in one night. I can't even imagine that.

Just my two cents.

[–]Airbag_UpYourAss 0 points1 point ago

I agree.

[–]frustrationman 25 points26 points ago

Something something masturbating.

[–]duBiYou 13 points14 points ago

Masturbation is a proven way to help workout. Well for your dominant arm.

[–]CHAAAZZZZ 11 points12 points ago

I'm a switch fapper

[–]TheRanchoChupacabraj 4 points5 points ago

Ambidextrous. Nice.

[–]beastcock 3 points4 points ago

switch fapping helps reduce penile curvature

[–]Wethequeens13 1 point2 points ago

Unless you decide to switch it up. Then it's like having a rendezvous with a mysterious stranger. You're not sure how it'll turn out. But it feels nice, and gentle so you'll give it a try. Maybe a little awkward at first, but in the end, it'll be worth it.

[–]duBiYou 0 points1 point ago

Is that from 2 1/2 men?

[–]Wethequeens13 1 point2 points ago

Not at all. It was just a thought, not a quote.

[–]brassninja 32 points33 points ago

way too close to home for me....

[–]Lechdan1983 5 points6 points ago

I'm with you here -.- this suits me as well ... :'-(

[–]brassninja 6 points7 points ago

Don't be sad about it! Being sad about it only encourages you to NOT lose weight.

[–]Lechdan1983 1 point2 points ago

You are right, but it is hard to find the strenght to change things :)

[–]I_TYPE_IN_ALL_CAPS 4 points5 points ago

IT'S HARD TO FIND THE STRENGTH TO NOT DO SOMETHING? WEIRD.

[–]Lechdan1983 0 points1 point ago

Yes, not to fall for an temptation is harder then giving in to the temptation. And what I really meant was that you need to find strength to do a good diet and do more sports, without sports a died will not do much. So yes, you need strength to not eat sweats and do more sports as well.

[–]I_TYPE_IN_ALL_CAPS 8 points9 points ago

Yes, not to fall for an temptation is harder then giving in to the temptation.

THE TEMPTATION HAS TO BE IN PLACE TO BEGIN WITH, WHICH REQUIRES ACTION. YOU HAVE TO GO BUY THE DONUT. UNLESS YOU HAVE DONUT-MAKING EQUIPMENT AT HOME, IN WHICH CASE YOU SHOULD THROW IT OUT IMMEDIATELY.

DONUTS MAGICALLY SHOW UP AT WORK? DON'T ENTER THE ROOM THEY'RE IN. THEY DELIVER DONUTS TO YOUR DESK? YOU WORK AT AN EVIL PLACE AND SHOULD QUIT.

do more sports, without sports a died will not do much.

THAT'S COMPLETELY INCORRECT, AND IT'S JUST FAT-PEOPLE LOGIC.

WEIGHT LOSS IS ALMOST ENTIRELY ABOUT DIET. AND IT'S NOT ABOUT STARVATION AND DENIAL, IT'S ABOUT REDUCING OVERALL CALORIC INTAKE. FOCUS ON GETTING PROTEIN AND VEGETABLES. WHY? BECAUSE PROTEIN IS IMPORTANT TO RETAINING MUSCLE DURING A PHASE OF CALORIC RESTRICTION, AND BECAUSE THE TWO WILL MAKE YOU FEEL QUITE FULL FOR LONGER, REDUCING CRAVINGS FOR CRAP FOODS.

[–]avelertimetr 4 points5 points ago

In addition, the more fit you get, all the bad food you used to eat will start to smell disgusting. I used to go to Del Taco and order 20 tacos (when they had 3 for $1 deals) and eat them all in one sitting. I would have competitions with my friends to see who could eat more. I now get physically repulsed by the smell of the air inside of Del Taco (must be the grease they use for cooking). Donuts also do not taste as good as they used to, and when I need something sweet, I eat fruit or even dark chocolate.

In short, your eating habits are kind of a feedback loop: the more bad stuff you eat, the more bad stuff you will crave. The more good stuff you eat, the more good stuff you'll crave (and be repulsed by bad stuff).

[–]onemadnigga 1 point2 points ago

As someone who has lost about 80 lbs. I can verify this. I lost 40 pounds alone just by dieting. Although, I do recommend exercising, makes you feel much better.

[–]nilhilustfrederi 0 points1 point ago

I work out hard 5 days a week and I'm still overweight (by 20-30 lbs). I lose weight entirely based on what I eat. Problem is when I'm running on a calorie deficit I stay sore longer and stop making gains.

[–]Atreides_Zero 1 point2 points ago

Actually a diet alone can do quite a bit. Dieting dropped me 50 pounds. Then the progress slowed down so i had to add in some exercise to stay at the pace I prefer. Honestly the biggest hurdle I had to overcome was figuring out how to motivate my self and not let my depression get the best of me.

[–]onion_cutting_champ -3 points-2 points ago

I can give you inspiration if you want, it will probably be mean though.

[–]avelertimetr 1 point2 points ago

Inspiration doesn't have to be mean. This is my favorite inspirational video. (I don't work for beachbody and not trying to push P90X, but I did the program. Don't recommend it to everyone, especially not people with injuries).

[–]onion_cutting_champ -5 points-4 points ago

Yeah but being mean is more fun.

Source: every RPG ever.

[–]pepg 0 points1 point ago

its proven that you just need to consume less calories than you're burning. that doesn't mean you have to "do more sports". the food you eat DOES NOT DEFINE WHO YOU ARE. eating less is a great start, don't discount that just because you refuse to do things like take the stairs or walk to work/lunch.

[–]this-username 0 points1 point ago

It probably doesn't suit you that well... sorry i had to

[–]IamLiamNeeson 0 points1 point ago

Ah, you rat bastard, you beat me to it.

[–]CornySpark 1 point2 points ago

Hi guys, check out /r/keto if you haven't already. It's quite good. The successes stories/pictures of what people do in such a short period of time is huge motivation for me. Maybe it will help you too :)

[–]njloof 16 points17 points ago

"I lost 10 pounds with one simple tip... put down the doughnut."

[–]lesser_panjandrum 16 points17 points ago

That's a heavy doughnut you were holding.

[–]towel_tosser 3 points4 points ago

Twist: the doughnut was a ten pound weight he was using to exercise with.

[–]RustBrotherOne 1 point2 points ago

you know... I hate how fucking good this advice is. But seriously, it is amazing advice. Put down the god damn junk food and you will see some god damn results. Now get up and start walking. You will see more results. Small things build into big things, and BAM MOTHER FUCKER. You're healthy.

[–]Sheldy13 8 points9 points ago

Over the past 4 years I've lost about 70lbs (230-160lbs). During this time I have not had a single donut. I've thought about it. Then I remember how much "just one donut" made my life miserable. I take it personally. Motherfucking donut fucking up my life like that. Fuck you donut. I feel better 24 hours a day, rather than the short amount of time I enjoyed that bastard treat which only lasted the time I was eating it, followed by the sickening feeling I got from eating too much sugar and feeling tired and laggy all the time.

[–]I_TYPE_IN_ALL_CAPS 46 points47 points ago

HEY FATTIES, WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT?

HERE'S WHAT I'M SEEING IN THE COMMENTS: EVERYONE IS FOCUSING ON EXERCISE AND SELF-DENIAL. THAT'S ENTIRELY THE WRONG WAY TO GO ABOUT IT. FIRST OFF, FOCUS ON OVERALL DIET. HAVE A CHEAT DAY (OR BETTER YET, CHEAT MEAL) ONCE PER WEEK. ON THAT DAY (OR MEAL), YOU EAT ALL THE SHIT YOU'VE BEEN CRAVING UNTIL YOU'RE SICK OF IT. THE REST OF THE WEEK, FOCUS ON PROTEIN AND VEGETABLES, AND TRACK YOUR CALORIES USING SOMETHING LIKE THIS. (TRACK EVERY CALORIE [I MEAN ACTUALLY MEASURE EVERY SERVING] FOR TWO WEEKS TO CALIBRATE YOUR BRAIN, THEN A COUPLE OF DAYS EVERY MONTH THEREAFTER TO MAINTAIN THE CALIBRATION).

AS FOR EXERCISE, STOP THINKING YOU HAVE TO GO GET RED-FACED ON AN ELLIPTICAL AT THE GYM. JUST LOAD UP SOME PODCASTS AND GO FOR A 30 MINUTE WALK FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. TAKE THE STAIRS. WALK TO LUNCH. INCORPORATE MORE ACTIVITY INTO YOUR APPALLINGLY SEDENTARY LIFE.

[–]Scipio_Africanus 11 points12 points ago

This actually great advice even if it comes from a novelty account.

[–]omegashadow 5 points6 points ago

This guy has only made quality posts as every time I see him.

[–]HappyRotter 1 point2 points ago

Especially from a novelty account, because I'm picturing Billy Mays.

[–]xnerdyxrealistx 4 points5 points ago

Good advice. I read it like you were screaming it at me. Really drives the point home.

[–]Twitchety 3 points4 points ago

/r/ALLCAPSMOTIVATION for everyone.

Also /r/getmotivated, /r/loseit, etc. but those aren't as fun.

[–]Atreides_Zero 5 points6 points ago

Personally I think that sort of cheat day is very counter productive and eveb counter intuitive to trying to establish a new, healthier diet.

There still should be a 'cheat' day but instead of cramming yourself full of crutch foods or junk food instead just make it a day where you don't care about calories or restrictions. Eat what you want to but dont purposefully overeat.

Plus you can then look at how much weight you gained/maintained/lost the next day and use it as a guide to how well you might do when you are no longer dieting but just looking to maintain your weight.

Plus it should result in no negative impact to your normal exercise/diet routine.

Unless your cheat days are like mine and involve lots of tasty tasty beer which can make running the next morning hard.

[–]kharii 0 points1 point ago

I see what you're saying, but I sort of have to disagree. I lost 60 pounds over a year, and that cheat day is still in tact. But on my cheat day, it still had to be something natural. Even if it was a shipload of pad thai or a burger.

[–]Atreides_Zero 0 points1 point ago

I lost 63 over the last two so I hear you.

To be fair, I think weigh loss is about figuring out what works best for you. But part of that is exploring and hearing different ideas.

And congratulations btw.

[–]katnybray 0 points1 point ago

Cheat day is actually good for two reasons

  1. psychologically, you don't feel like you're withholding from yourself but rather rearranging your indulgences. then, you end up staying more motivated and not as stressed, which makes weight loss difficult.

  2. your body adjusts your metabolism for large quantities much faster than it adjusts for small quantities. so if you take a cheat day, your body will alter slightly to handle that intake, and stay that way for a few days after, which boosts metabolism for normal diet days

[–]irisher 0 points1 point ago

Got any sources on point 2?

[–]katnybray 0 points1 point ago

just something i always heard from my dad. then again, he can be a conspiracy theorist sometimes. ive always found it to work though

[–]Atreides_Zero -1 points0 points ago

psychologically, you don't feel like you're withholding from yourself but rather rearranging your indulgences. then, you end up staying more motivated and not as stressed, which makes weight loss difficult.

Which still works with my suggestion for cheat day.

[–]katnybray 0 points1 point ago

exactly. im agreeing with you about why cheat day works. i guess this was a bit unclear. i meant the stress and motivation make weight loss difficult, but having a cheat day alleviates these a bit

[–]I_TYPE_IN_ALL_CAPS -1 points0 points ago

Personally I think that sort of cheat day is very counter productive

OKAY, BUT YOU'RE COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY WRONG.

EXCEEDING YOUR CALORIC TARGET ONE OUT OF SEVEN DAYS IS NOT GOING TO HAVE A MEANINGFUL NEGATIVE IMPACT, PERIOD. IT WILL, HOWEVER, ALLOW A PERSON TO GET HIS OR HER FOOD CRAVINGS OUT OF THEIR SYSTEM.

Eat what you want to but dont purposefully overeat.

IT'S NOT A BULKING DAY, YOU FUCKING RETARD. IT'S A CHEAT DAY. I.E. CHEAT AND EAT WHATEVER YOU'RE CRAVING.

Plus you can then look at how much weight you gained/maintained/lost the next day

HOLY SHIT, FUCK YOU FOR EVEN WRITING THAT. NEVER, EVER TELL PEOPLE TO WATCH THEIR WEIGHT FROM DAY TO FUCKING DAY (ONLY EVER CONSIDER A RUNNING AVERAGE). JESUS CHRIST, I NOW WANT YOU TO DIE. YOU'RE REINFORCING EVERY IDIOTIC, SELF-DEFEATING MISCONCEPTION THAT FATTIES HAVE ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS STRATEGIES.

[–]Atreides_Zero 0 points1 point ago

SELF-DEFEATING MISCONCEPTION THAT FATTIES HAVE ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS STRATEGIES.

That's weird considering these strategies have got me down 63lbs.

Maybe your ideas are the only ones that can work.

IT'S NOT A BULKING DAY

Really, because based on your language of "eat until you're sick of it" I wouldn't have realized you were recommending people to eat within reason.

IS NOT GOING TO HAVE A MEANINGFUL NEGATIVE IMPACT, PERIOD

Uh again in reference to "eat until you're sick of it", yes it can. It can pretty much wipe out an entire weeks worth of work, and if you do that once a week you will have no meaningful impact on your own weight because you're bringing yourself to a stand still.

But hey, I'm arguing with a novelty account, it's not like I can really expect you to actually know what you're talking about.

For reference I think cheat days as you describe them have their place, just aren't sustainable nor fit well with long term loss. They work well at the start when you're trying to establish patterns and adjust nutritional intake. But it's still important to not over do it.

[–]SwearWords 0 points1 point ago

That's the best fucking way anyone's said that shit.

[–]paranode 1 point2 points ago

Only problem is a real overeater can easily pack enough extra calories in a cheat day to wipe out all the deficit they worked hard to create the rest of the week. Shit adds up fast when you eat pizza, candy, fried stuff, etc all day.

[–]I_TYPE_IN_ALL_CAPS 0 points1 point ago

BULLSHIT. UNLESS YOU ARE LITERALLY SPOONING LARD OUT OF A BUCKET, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO EXCEED YOUR SIX-DAY CALORIC DEFICIT IN ONE DAY. YOU'LL BE SICK TO YOUR STOMACH AND TIRED OF THE SHIT FOOD LONG BEFORE YOU COULD REACH THAT POINT.

[–]MrBobandy 1 point2 points ago

I wouldn't call a doughnut every day 'moderation' to be honest.

Oooh boy, that 200 calorie donut might really break you!

[–]I_TYPE_IN_ALL_CAPS 2 points3 points ago

BEHOLD, BROSCIENCE.

[–]Scipio_Africanus 0 points1 point ago

Haha, look at this guy with his wrongness.

Aspartame has virtually no energy. You cannot gain weight by ingesting reasonable amounts of aspartame.

[–]Throwawaychica -1 points0 points ago

Firstly, I'm female.

Secondly, chew with your mouth closed. Thank you.

Thirdly, there was article just posted that proved that fake sugar causes you gain more weight than regular sugar.

[–]Scipio_Africanus 0 points1 point ago

Aspartame cannot cause weight gain. It's energy free. No calories. If you want to to take a look at other factors, such a people over eating because they have sugar cravings after a diet soda, that's another thing entirely. Blaming aspartame for people being weak is wrong.

[–]JBFRESHSKILLS -2 points-1 points ago
