You are really sticking it to the whole karma system by posting it here instead of /r/funny where you'd be dripping with karma.

[–]yohohoanda[S] 37 points38 points ago

OFF TO r/funny!

[–]Topper_Harley 15 points16 points ago

You'll get my upvote there too.

[–]yohohoanda[S] 12 points13 points ago

[–]HongManChoi 3 points4 points ago

Seriously, X-post that shit. This is most definitely front page worthy.

[–]wilhaven 114 points115 points ago

That costume is revolutionary.

[–]yohohoanda[S] 40 points41 points ago

In a year where everyone is dressing as Psy and dancing the Gangnam Style dance, you sir are a stand-out genius.

[–]CJRYAN1212 52 points53 points ago

Don't forget Slenderman. Everyone and their mom is gonna be Slenderman.

I Slenderman.

You Slenderman.

He she we, Slenderman.

[–]hapahaole_ 16 points17 points ago

Slendology? The study of Slender?

Its first grade

[–]baddox 9 points10 points ago

Is Slenderman really that culturally prominent right now, and if so, why? I remember the SomethingAwful meme from a few years back, and I think I heard about a recent indie video game by that name, but has it gone more mainstream?

[–]rodtang 9 points10 points ago

There was the slenderman game (which sucked ass) that everyone and their cow did an LP of.

[–]jesusinabottle 8 points9 points ago

Someone had a bunch of drawings taped up in each floor of the stairwell at my university. And I just added some circles and antennae and made him into a caterpillar so it was all good.

I don't get the whole obsession with it.

[–]AstorSapolsky 8 points9 points ago

It doesn't matter... faceless tall guy in a suit with tentacles. The SomethingAwful bit was around making some generic horror story, and Slendy was generic enough to scare everybody. You don't have to get it to go "yeah, that guy's trying to be scary."

Now if we're going for freaky Internet shit, I'm making a giant paper-mache SCP-173 for next Halloween! For those unaware, here and here.

[–]stabbing_robot 4 points5 points ago

Bonus points: Go out on Halloween inside SCP-173. Have friends distract victims while you get behind them, completely silently.

Bonus bonus points: Cut out a hole for a helmet cam. Post vids on Youtube, get infinite Internet points.

[–]CatMadeOfFur 7 points8 points ago

What is this Slenderman?

[–]Teeth_Paste 4 points5 points ago

Slendermen?

[–]Thisisacoolname 0 points1 point ago

But I'm already woody. Do I have to be a Slenderman Woody now?

[–]EricThePooh 0 points1 point ago

I think slenderman will be popular to an extent. I bought one without considering this so I think I will also were some Groucho Marx glasses.

[–]ShakeItTilItPees 0 points1 point ago

Looks like you took the lyric "I wanna be anarchy" literally.

[–]D3FEATER -3 points-2 points ago

Why is this in firstworldanarchists? Che--huge socialist. That's more gov't intervention....

[–]ProbablyNotLying 5 points6 points ago

This is based off of a serious misunderstanding socialism and anarchism.

Socialism, at its most basic, is fundamentally about worker power, not government power.

Anarchism is about non-hierarchical social organization. Since capitalism is hierarchical, anarchism is socialist. Of course, anarchism also opposes government, so anarchists want to organize society through cooperation and collective action.

Communism is a specific kind of socialism about creating a classless, stateless society in which the means of production are collectively owned by the workers who use them.

Once upon a time, anarchism and communism were synonyms. Both are about getting rid of the state, both are about getting rid of capitalism, both are about creating a society of peers who organize collectively. After the failure of the Paris Commune, big-name leftists theorists Karl Marx and Mikhail Bakunin disagreed so much that communism and anarchism developed in two separate ways.

In the early 20th century Lenin and other vanguardists came up with a kind of communism in which a vanguard party seizes control of the government so they could use the state to destroy itself and uplift people to socialism. It failed and led to authoritarianism in Russia and China.

Meanwhile, democratic socialists wanted to create socialism by reforming, rather than overthrowing, the government. Their idea was to create a government controlled by the workers through democratic institutions, and which controlled the economy, thus giving workers indirect economic control.

edit: all that said, Che was still much more of a vanguardist than anarchist.

[–]D3FEATER 0 points1 point ago

That's a great reply. Interesting stuff, and history I haven't much studied. I actually speak fluent spanish and wanted to start reading some Che stuff (though I'm pretty capitalistic) but turns out he didn't write much. Need to study more Russian history too. Of course I know the Bolsheviks, Lennon, Stalin, etc. but I don't know it like I know American history.

[–]ProbablyNotLying 0 points1 point ago

Feel free to shoot any questions my way. I'm a history student and I have a special interest in radical politics. Everything from anarchism to fascism sparks my interest, and it's all far more complex than people mostly believe.

[–]lessonplan 7 points8 points ago

  1. all anarchists are socialist

  2. fuck your rules

[–]cole1114 -5 points-4 points ago

He also leaned on the "mass-murder" side of things.

[–]ProbablyNotLying 0 points1 point ago

I'm really critical of Che myself, but fuck man, come up with some real criticism instead of making shit up.

In the aftermath of the Cuban Revolution, military tribunals tried and executed ~500 Batista regime supporters. This is nothing compared to post-revolutionary terrors in places like France, Russia, and China, or the extrajudicial killings in many contemporary Latin American nations. The Cuban revolutionary government made healthcare reform a major priority, sending doctors to the Soviet Union to learn medicine, setting up clinics throughout the countryside, and lowering the infant mortality rate from one of the worst in Latin America to one of the best. Land reform did not involve forced collectivization as in Russia or China, but instead focused on giving sugar workers greater control over their plantations by turning them into cooperatives.

Where's the mass murder, now?

[–]cole1114 0 points1 point ago

Type "Che Guevara mass murder" into google. See dozens upon dozens of articles pointing out that he was responsible for organizing firing squads that murdered 1000s of men, women, and yes, children.

"I cant even begin to tell you just how much pain che guevara caused to so many. It isn’t just those that he systematically killed, but the wives he widowed and children he orphaned, the parents who sons and daughters were executed. che’s been dead for forty years but in many cases, the families of his victims are still feeling the grief and anguish and certainly, Cuba is still suffering from the disease of a regime he helped instill."

Where's the "making shit up" now?

[–]ProbablyNotLying 0 points1 point ago

Type "Che Guevara mass murder" into google.

"Google" is not a reliable source. Come back with a specific, reputable source. Human rights organizations and academic publications are a good place to start.

That's just a few links among thousands. Che was a murderer on a massive scale. He reminds me a lot of A Clockwork Orange. The main character of that book, Alex, was a rapist and murderer. Yet I still see people dressing up as him for Halloween, saying that they love him, that "he did whatever he wanted and was super-cool and edgy" despite not even knowing the point of his character. Same reason that supporters/idolators of Che Guevera make me incredibly angry. The man was a murderer.

This is an entire website dedicated to attacking the Cuban government. It's got a big banner on the home page saying "53 YEARS OF OPPRESSION".

http://voices.yahoo.com/che-guevara-hero-mass-murderer-3292360.html

Yahoo news? Come dude, I've seen that compared to the National Inquirer in terms of reliability.

http://www.slideshare.net/frontfel/che-guevare-glamourising-a-mass-murderer

What is this? It looks like some high school student's homework.

http://michellemalkin.com/2007/11/05/the-victims-of-che-guevara/

I clicked the "about" on this page, and the writer calls herself a "conservative syndicated columnist, author, and Fox News Channel contributor." Clearly she is motivated by politics rather than the search for historical truth.

http://blog.nj.com/njv_guest_blog/2012/06/the_real_che_was_no_hero.html

Written by a sitting politician. A Republican from Florida, even. It's hard to get much more biased than that.

Here, now I'm going to use your method to find evidence for all kinds of crazy bullshit. Let's start with googling "Lincoln was a communist" and see what we get:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HZsPZ_guyE

https://blogs.berkeley.edu/2011/04/06/a-lincoln-socialist/

http://www.trivia-library.com/a/president-abraham-lincoln-lincoln-the-communist.htm

http://www.republicanoperative.com/forums/f28/lincoln-communist-25578/

http://southernnationalist.com/blog/2011/10/30/communist-roots-of-lincolns-republican-party/

A few links among thousands, as you said. Actually more than 8 million links, according to google. Guess that settles it, Lincoln was a red! Still not convinced that google can be used to find "evidence" for anything? Okay, I'll google "aliens killed Kennedy":

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1378284/Secret-memo-shows-JFK-demanded-UFO-files-10-days-assassination.html

http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message1705331/pg1

http://www.world-mysteries.com/doug_jfk.htm

http://weeklyworldnews.com/aliens/32112/jfk-killed-over-ufos/

If googling shit to support your argument makes it true then Aliens definitely killed Kennedy. When I typed "aliens killed" into the search bar, JFK was the first thing autocomplete gave me. Now I'll google "the holocaust never happened", something pretty much anyone can agree is a stupid, politically-motivated argument:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7BJtgEKqN4

http://www.holocaustdenier.com/noahs-ark-didnt-happen-holocaust-myt/

http://www.stormfront.org/forum/t553062/

http://globalfire.tv/nj/03en/holoindustry/holoneverhappened.htm

Okay, fuck, I can't do this anymore. I can't take this much stupid. I really hope this demonstrates to you, though, that your method of finding supporting evidence is absolutely horrible. Googling something to find support without checking the source is nothing but an exercise in conformation bias. If you do real research you'll find that no, Che was not a "mass murderer". However, I am not defending Che Guevara! I personally do not like the guy for a whole list of reasons. There's plenty of valid criticism of him, his politics, his methods, and his personal life. The reason you've chosen to criticize him, though, it nothing but politicized slander. It does more to obscure the truth than reveal it, and ultimately hurts your argument more than it helps.
