Well they do sneak into the patient's rooms early in the morning (around 6:45-7:00am) to take blood. Quietly waking the patients to take their blood and then quickly leaving the room.....

As an overnight phlebo, I wish I didn't have to do that. The physicians want the bloodwork done before they make their rounds in the morning. I feel terrible waking people up, and it's usually between 4-6am.

I don't like the vampire comment if the patient is already complaining and being condescending to me. But anybody being nice about it or especially kids who think they're being clever, it's cute. But yes I hear is several times a day! Too bad I can't literally dress like a vampire on Halloween at work.

My mom had one illness after another for the past 10 years, and practically has regular appointments with a phlebotomist. We always call it "going to the vampire," but did not pick that up from any of the phlebs she saw. We thought we were clever.... Heh.

Oh well, still makes us laugh -- which is sometimes what you need to get through the tough stuff in life.

If it makes you laugh, that's awesome, and it is clever if you come up with it on your own. We just get tormented day in and day out by this. They aren't telling this joke to patients they have never seen before, they're running the joke ragged telling it to the same nurses they see every day of every week of every month of every year, and not just when patients are around. Eventually you just want to choke them for it. They can be tremendous trolls.

Barely. I posted today and went "Huh. A year already?" I decided against posting a pic of my non-photogenic cat, and I get all my cool stuff from reddit, so have nothing to "for my cakeday, present to you..." So I went with self-deprecation since I feel I've finally earned the right.

My ex-roommate was a phlebotomist. He left some phlebotomy needles in my bathroom before he moved out, and the idiot who replaced him as a roommate found them and thought I was shooting heroin. They weren't even the right kind of needles and there were no syringes anywhere, but he was a paranoid moron.

Phlebotomy ("to cut a vein" in Greek) is the process of making an incision in a vein. It is associated with venipuncture, the practice of collecting venous blood.

I used to own a Toyota FJ40 and since, became a Landcruiser fan. We have FJ45's here, but they're all pre-1980. We also have a few FJ60's but they're pretty uncommon. I don't know all the facts behind it but Toyota hasn't imported one to the states aside from that God-forsaken excuse for an FJ40 in decades.

Along with that, there were no Toyota diesel engine equipped vehicles here either. Oh, and what's a Nissan Skyline or Nissan Patrol? LOL We don't know! Gimmeh uh Ford because it protects the Unions!

As "free" as we are, there is a lot of concern over revenue intake. There's such a huge push for eco-friendly engines and maximum mileage, but our all knowing, ever powerful government doesn't let Volkswagen import their European TDi (diesel) engine here. it gets 70mpg, but we can't have it because the government has to protect its own revenue sources. If we use less fuel, it doesn't get money from fuel taxes.

We had a "vamp" at the local hospital. He got called the instant a kid needed blood drawn, he was a class act.

Spun the tray, distracted the heck out of the kid, reeling out stories, and the blood was drawn before anybody knew what had happened. Yeah, some people earn a license plate.
