That made me feel better somehow.

[–]be_more_canadian 5 points6 points ago

This is how I wish the movie ended :'(

[–]Sentazar 6 points7 points ago

According to Jon Conner so did he, that's why the terminator kills him in the future, using his emotions. :O

[–]Forkler 0 points1 point ago

Downvoted for disagreeing with the original gif.

[–]Mackinstyle 0 points1 point ago

I was confused by the inanity of your for a moment until I realized I was in a subreddit I don't typically frequent. Lol cats and whatnot.

[–]Forkler 0 points1 point ago

I think you accidentally a word

[–]Mackinstyle 0 points1 point ago

That's what I get for responding quickly in a grocery line. I'll let you fill in any word you want!

[–]Forkler 1 point2 points ago

I was confused by the inanity of your abacus beads for a moment until I realized I was in a subreddit I don't typically frequent. Lol cats and whatnot.

[–]VenusBlue 16 points17 points ago

Well done. I laughed as I saw the thumbnail.

[–]KookyGuy 76 points77 points ago

People love to abuse the downvote. I find it funny when someone tries to educate others on the proper use of the downvote and they get downvoted. There are a lot of people that simply don't want to hear other opinions. I consider it more of a problem with humanity than simply a problem with Reddit.

Edit: Grammar

[–]dizzysmile 28 points29 points ago

The downvotes on your comment just prove how accurate it is. It's kind of funny.

"What? People downvote others simply for not agreeing with their opinion? No we don't!" ~downvotes~

[–]hydrogenous 8 points9 points ago

Also don't forget that Reddit automatically downvotes posts after they reach a certain threshold of upvotes. That's why you'll almost never see a post with ~15 up votes and absolutely NO downvotes. It has something to do with the spam filter, although I've never heard more than just a vague explanation.

[–]Tailend22 7 points8 points ago

Reddit currently downvotes submissions. It doesn't touch comments. Recently I made a post which received around 50 upvotes, 0 downvotes.

[–]qnnplmr 0 points1 point ago

Reddit doesn't downvote submissions, unless it does that in addition to the following. It adds an equal number of downvotes and upvotes to 'fuzz' the results, but always keeping the same sum total. Source

P.S.: If I'm wrong, which is totally possible, I would love to see a source on it. This shit fascinates me :)

[–]Tailend22 1 point2 points ago

Aha, I didn't know it worked like that, that's cool - Regardless though, it doesn't actually downvote comments.

[–]dizzysmile 1 point2 points ago

I wasn't aware of that. Thank you!

[–]hydrogenous 2 points3 points ago

Apparently I was wrong! Another post in response to mine says that this is only true for link submissions, not for comments!

[–]tuckels 0 points1 point ago

As far as I'm aware, reddit doesn't actually downvote submissions automatically, it just misreports the votes in the box to the side of the submission. The number of points (upvotes minus downvotes) is correct, but the upvote & downvote counts are fuzzed once a post reaches a certain threshold of votes.

This may also be the case for the "upvote | downvote" counts RES lets you view for comments. They're definitely not always accurate.

[–]gizmoglitch 1 point2 points ago

This is a newbie question, but how do you know his comment was getting downvotes? The only stats I see are for the thread on the right side of the page....

[–]NihilistDandy 2 points3 points ago

Reddit Enhancement Suite. Use it. Learn it. Love it.

[–]gizmoglitch 0 points1 point ago

Just installed it. http://i.imgur.com/Ytu3F.png

Upvote for you, sir.

[–]dizzysmile 0 points1 point ago

Right next to the username, after the time it was posted, there's a set of numbers in parenthases, separated by a pipe. The orange number is the upvotes, blue is the downvotes.

[–]tuckels 1 point2 points ago

This is due to RES, so if they don't have it, they won't see it.

[–]NarrowEnter 1 point2 points ago

I don't know about you guys but I downvote whenever somebody complains about downvotes so I have to kind of disagree with Kdawg's statement there. There's a difference between educating and whining and most people that I see that mention downvotes are whining about it.

For example:

Blah blah blah and blah blah

Edit: omg downvotes? really?!

I especially make an effort to downvote somebody when they start complaining about downvotes less than a minute after they've posted a reply. If those people have to complain about downvotes then the least they can do is wait a while until they get a bigger idea of how everybody feels about their comments.

[–]Krystie 2 points3 points ago

I find it far more annoying when the opposite happens - "omg this is my 1st front page, thanks guys !"

[–]Beardamus -2 points-1 points ago

I do the exact same thing. I will downvote someone if they complain about downvotes even if I think they originally made a good point and their point adds to the discussion.

Downvotes really? Edited for irony.

[–]NarrowEnter -1 points0 points ago

Oh those are the worst too. I hate having to downvote somebody who I agree so strongly with just because they had to complain about downvotes.

It has made me switch my upvotes to downvotes on more than one occasion.

[–]Okuu-Trollzy 5 points6 points ago

I hate it when I post a legitimate comment, relevant to the OP's post and everything, and I just get downvoted, rather than have other people reply with their input.

[–]TelcoBro 4 points5 points ago

I just brought you back from zero buddy 👍

[–]Okuu-Trollzy 4 points5 points ago

Thank you, kind sir.

[–]fr3shjive 5 points6 points ago

I agree completely. I actually think they should get rid of the down vote button in the comments section. The problem right now is that everything is just one big circle jerk and unpopular opinions get down voted into oblivion.

No downvotes = unpopular opinions getting discussed. Trolls will still be at the bottom of the comments because nobody will be voting up a troll.

[–]Aschebescher 3 points4 points ago

Yes, this is a very good idea. Some trolls are getting their kick from downvotes, this problem would be solved immediatly with this solution.

[–]wkdown 5 points6 points ago

We should change it to be like HN. Only upvotes. Post isn't relevant? Report it.

[–]Andro30 0 points1 point ago

what is HN?

[–]mojorisin2592 2 points3 points ago

Part of becoming mature is realizing that there are more than one points of view, and opening your mind to see if there is any validity in them. Reddit is immature. I don't think it's a problem with humanity as much as it is a problem with reddit's community, and how it has shifted in the past 2 years.

[–]dcwj 0 points1 point ago

I never touch the downvote button unless a commenter is being a real dick.

[–]Loopbot75 -3 points-2 points ago

Downvoted

[–]divinesleeper 1 point2 points ago

I defend your right to downvote this person!

[–]Loopbot75 -2 points-1 points ago

I defend your right to defend this person's right to downvote that other guy!

[–]divinesleeper 3 points4 points ago

that other guy!

But...that's you!

[–]Mogwoggle 9 points10 points ago

Hey guys! This guys' a big fat phony! He doesn't know this feel at all :(

Source: comment 1, comment 2 and comment 3 are his only downvoted comments for the last 3 months

[–]caseycour 12 points13 points ago

maybe he deletes the shitty ones.

[–]Nomae13 3 points4 points ago

I know that feel bro.

[–]Forkler -1 points0 points ago

Ppl post things on reddit to gain karma, attention and try to get the front page, not because they actually experience the things they post about. It's part of the game.

[–]Mogwoggle 1 point2 points ago

I'm allowed to point that shit out though.

[–]Forkler 0 points1 point ago

That's part of the game too, but you dont find it funny that you dv'd me as part of your response saying your allowed to point that shit out. So am I no? lmao

Enjoy an upvote

[–]Mogwoggle 0 points1 point ago

Meh, I downvoted it because it was obvious.

If you want it back you can have it, just let me know.

[–]Forkler 0 points1 point ago

You do what you gotta do. I was entertained. Seems to mean more to you. lol

[–]tylerbird 6 points7 points ago

My favourite is when you get down voted and no one tells you why you're wrong. It's hard to have a discussion if you don't know the other side.

[–]Spazasaurus 2 points3 points ago

I concur.

"I don't like what you've said, but either 1) I'm afraid to post my opinion in case your retort destroys mine, or 2) I can't think of a good enough reason to actually explain myself in words. Yet, I'll continue to downvote you, regardless."

[–]Gozdilla 0 points1 point ago

As much as I don't like not getting an explanation, come on, it's much more lazy than that. Mostly people just don't care to bother explaining something to someone they now don't like. Lost cause, why add lost time?

[–]Radico87 0 points1 point ago

People are idiots in groups. They don't bother understanding the voting system and equate it to "if I like it, upvote; if I don't like it, downvote" without regard to whether the comment/post is relevant in the context of its subreddit. Stupid people.

[–]Jonthrei 17 points18 points ago

For a clear example of how stupid people are in groups, feel free to make a throwaway, post a couple genuinely insightful comments, turn off the default upvote, and then downvote them on your main account. When people see -1, they assume "oh this guys dumb" and go in with preconceptions. It is startling how powerful this effect can be.

[–]Radico87 0 points1 point ago

Exactly, groupthink in a nutshell. Intellectual abortions.

[–]Turnshroud 0 points1 point ago

I want to try this now. Would make an interesting series of groupthink experiments

But you have the just of it

[–]captgrizzlybear 0 points1 point ago

Or just downvote your own comments which gives you -1

[–]boyzenberries88 0 points1 point ago

Can someone tell me what movie this gif is from? I feel like I've definitely seen it before but I can't put my finger on it!!

[–]Nuclearxkitten 8 points9 points ago

Terminator 2

[–]be_more_canadian 0 points1 point ago

This is my new favourite gif. Such a good movie

[–]weewolf 3 points4 points ago

So a Republican in /r/politics?

[–]NagisaK -1 points0 points ago

or 9GAGers on Reddit.

[–]GoodGuy04 0 points1 point ago

So, are you sure I can't convince you to not vote for Romney?

[–]WhitefangdDS 0 points1 point ago

I know that feel bro...

[–]ItscalledCannabis 0 points1 point ago

Love it when people comment, Downvoted into oblivion on posts of mine that are -36, only to have their post reach -50

[–]soykommander 0 points1 point ago

I will always love that movie

[–]oskyyo 0 points1 point ago

Omg. This part made me cry. Every. Fucking. Time.

[–]_inhuman_ 0 points1 point ago

I heard the music when i saw this gif

[–]SmartAssUsername 0 points1 point ago

Psssstttt....Karma doesn't mean jackshit.

[–]ArcticSpaceman 2 points3 points ago

It's not about the karma, it's about the ideas, and the message sent by the community when they disprove of an idea, or alternatively what kind of ideas they support.

It's important to think about some things deeper than at the surface level.

[–]SmartAssUsername 0 points1 point ago

When I'm getting downvoted into oblivion due to an unpopular opinion

.

the message sent by the community hivemind when they disprove of an idea, or alternatively what kind of ideas they support.

Let's take a relatively neutral subreddit /r/pokemon. Let's now assume that the favorite pokemon of that subreddit is squirtle.

Now, go post a well thought of and eloquent post which would state that squirtle sucks(for whatever reason)...and get downvote into oblivion because, well, fuck you, you don't like squirtle.

Also see(the ridiculously relevant) rule 11 of the internet.

[–]Fran6o 0 points1 point ago

Don't up vote him, he's probably for Romney !!!!

[–]Murder6 0 points1 point ago

What if he's actually an Obama Supporter and you are the Romney supporter? CONSPIRACY!
