Production used Betacam, not Betamax. The tapes were physically similar (and would fit into the opposite unit type) though the recording methods were different, and the tape formulations were different to accommodate this.

My family had a Betamax for a really long time. We would have our friends who had both a Betamax and a VHS VCR make copies of movies for us so we could watch them. That thing lasted forever. I don't know when it finally died and we got rid of it.

You might be old enough to be my mom. VHS is not Betamax - that's all I ever knew. My mom was the one who knew what all the acronyms meant.

Also, that you could not copy a Disney movie. Disney copy-protected their VHS cassettes. There's only one reason my mother would know that, and yes, that is the reason she knows that. My family's been pirates since 1981. Yarr.

Well at least you know about the older floppies. Damn things were so awesome back in the C64 and early 386 days.

ZIP drives never really took off, but you pretty much always saw at least one in any computer lab. They held significantly more data than a floppy drive, but since they weren't as ubiquitous, mainly due to price, not many people owned 'em. I remember thinking "how awesome is this?" when the first CD drives came out. My school had one in the library computer, since it was necessary for Encarta. You had to load the CD into a cartridge and insert it into the drive. Kinda a pain in the ass, but that didn't last very long anyway.
