Clarkson isn't a genius, he's a bit of a douche. But a lot of his sentiments are spot on, and he seems to follow the comedian's rule when it comes to insulting delicate PC crazy things like race and culture: Insult every group (including his own) so much that only those with thick skulls can't tell he doesnt mean anything he says seriously and he just wants people to get butthurt, yet hopefully laugh it off. And the same things he says he hates, like American culture and cars, in another episode he says it all makes sense and he likes it. Then back on home turf, he'd be back to heavily biased opinions that are opposite what he just said simply so he can argue with Hammond or May. Even within a single 7 minute long review, part of the drama is that he'd spend 5 minutes saying it is an amazing car, then after he's gone through a set of expensive rear tires he'd say the car is too good, unemotional, etc.
