And thus, every mean joke about him is nullified.

[–]iBS_PartyDoc 527 points528 points ago

I heard him speak at a conference earlier this month. During his speech he said a joke along the lines of, "my agent came to me looking for me to play a satanic masochist who is in a coma. and I responded, I might be able to do the first two things, but why the hell would you think Michael J Fox could play someone in a coma? I can't stay still for 1 minute."

He's a good guy and has been doing a lot towards Parkinsons research.

[–]biitchhplease 269 points270 points ago

I'm so glad he has a good sense of humor. It makes him so much cooler.

[–]AnotherClosetAtheist 215 points216 points ago

Yeah. Oh, and that one time he played that guy who rode skateboards and went back in time in a nuclear De Lorian and met his parents and almost made himself not get born but he helped his dad stop his mom from getting raped and he played Earth Angel on the guitar so they fell in love so he was gonna be okay - that was pretty cool, too.

[–]Lettuce_Get_Weird 310 points311 points ago

Bad Boys II is seriously underrated.

[–]hold_the_lettuce 102 points103 points ago

I feel a strange connection to you...

[–]Lettuce_Get_Weird 51 points52 points ago

I can't believe you would deny me as a topping.

[–]bowbenpb 18 points19 points ago

I'm not going to let myself feel stupid for thinking it was a love of Bad Boys II that connected you. Because it connects all of us. If someone else wants to let me feel stupid, well, then do your worst.

[–]Lettuce_Get_Weird 17 points18 points ago

You're a good person and I want you to know that our connection goes beyond Bad Boys and is as eternal as space and I believe in you.

[–]bowbenpb 9 points10 points ago

I survived the internet's worst! I feel invincible. I bet a shotgun to the face wouldnt ev

[–]GreatLookingGuy 6 points7 points ago

To him you're the main entree, baby.

[–]lettuce_kiss 6 points7 points ago

wow, this is awkward.

[–]XsimonbelmontX 59 points60 points ago

Absolutely. Some people in his situation would be really self-righteous and demand to be taken seriously. Michael seems to be a cool and intelligent enough guy to understand that you can reach a lot more people by having a bit of humor and humility about yourself than you can by being a dick and trying to make people feel like shit.

[–]that-freakin-guy 20 points21 points ago

Bono should take notes.

[–]GazUtd 27 points28 points ago

Bono should take cyanide.

[–]nononao 9 points10 points ago

I remember when he left Spin City, I was so worried he'd just not be in anything again. Every time I see him, I gotta smile.

[–]redlinezo6 340 points341 points ago

My favorite recent show he was on was Rescue Me.

He played a dude in a wheel chair that was a drug addict, used the shaking/tweakyness well. And he got to play kind of a asshole. It was nice.

[–]LaboratoryManiac 131 points132 points ago

He came and spoke at my university last year, and he told a story about that role. The character was originally going to be a paraplegic. Denis Leary called up Fox and told him he'd be perfect for the role.

Fox replied, "I don't know if you know this about me, but I literally cannot stop moving."

[–]stanfan114 319 points320 points ago

He did the same on Scrubs but with OCD.

[–]Wed1901 244 points245 points ago

Dr. Kevin Casey. Dr. Kevin Casey. Dr. Kevin Casey. Bink bink bink bink bink bink

[–]FreshFruitCup 44 points45 points ago

"Do you plunder?" Great bit.

[–]JollyRogers40 28 points29 points ago

"I HAVE been known to plunder..."

[–]random-words 17 points18 points ago

God I love scrubs.

[–]JBSpartan 8 points9 points ago

Suicidal scavenger birds also a good sign.

[–]mightbetrolling 43 points44 points ago

As someone with OCD I felt that he portrayed the condition amazingly and gave viewers insight on how frustrating it is to have it.

[–]SnapHook 9 points10 points ago

You should do an AMA. Seriously. I have funny quirks (organizing all the bottle caps on the table etc etc) and I used to joke that I was OCD-ish. Until I met someone who's brother was OCD, I don't joke about OCD anymore.

[–]ConorPF 14 points15 points ago

Love that episode.

[–]Gallifrasian 12 points13 points ago

Man, he hit me right in my feeling center in those episodes...

[–]FriendlyBassplayer 68 points69 points ago

In The Good Wife he plays an extremely intelligent and devious lawyer with a mental disability, and plays it perfectly. He always opens up explaining to the jury what to expect from him and to not be concerned with his motions and stuttering, whilst gaining their sympathy

[–]trevor 27 points28 points ago

Wonder how it feels to be typecast in that manner.

[–]HugeDouche 79 points80 points ago

it feels rich. and respected.

[–]TehNumbaT 7 points8 points ago

and he is able to do loads for Parkinson's research

[–]Dukksoup 62 points63 points ago

A paycheck is a paycheck. If you want me to be the upbeat black guy with a catch phrase on any show, I'll dance like mr. Bojangles.

[–]MrBojangles528 80 points81 points ago

For the record, I am a terrible dancer.

[–]Lettuce_Get_Weird 9 points10 points ago

Why won't you dance?

[–]kralrick 39 points40 points ago

He's a fantastic actor. It's not typecasting, he's finding a way to work an uncontrollable facet of his disease into the rolls he plays. He's not playing the same character, he's playing a variety of characters with a similar trait (each has that trait for a different reason though).

[–]Illadelphian 12 points13 points ago

What other choice does he have? I have more respect for him now for continuing to do work like this.

[–]DrKomeil 8 points9 points ago

Nice to have work.

[–]burf 4 points5 points ago

Unavoidable?

[–]KoNP 3 points4 points ago

He's not the kind of guy to hide from his illness and the world and get offended by people concentrating on it. Why would he, when he can use it in his job and get paid for it?

I don't think I worded that very well, but I mean if your choice is between being self-conscious about it, or being comfortable with it, what do you think is going to be simpler in the long term? Not the former, because it means you're always going to be hurt and offended.

[–]pseudojewboy 5 points6 points ago

Yeah wasn't he Tommy's wife/ex-wife's new boyfriend or something?

[–]redlinezo6 4 points5 points ago

Yes.

[–]DrRedApple 4 points5 points ago

Haha, that character was freaking awesome!

[–]GovmentTookMaBaby 131 points132 points ago

As someone with severe OCD that interferes significantly with my personal, academic, and professional life, Michael J. Fox's guest role on scrubs (not even including all the Back to the Future greatness) was amazing and powerful because it showed the madness that is knowing you are doing something so stupid and embarrassing, but are just not able to stop though you want nothing more than to. You are a true badass sir.

Edit: Thank you very much, and as trivial as it seems to get a little support from some strangers, it's hard to overstate how much any support helps when you are embarrassed to talk to your little cousins because you don't want to scare them with your damn stupid facial gestures when all you want to do is love and support them. Thank you.

[–]ChewbaccasAbortion 35 points36 points ago

The third book of the Ender Series deals with a race that has an extremely powerful mutated form of OCD, the people with it are known as the "God Spoken" and they believe these rituals are being told to them by the gods as punishment for some sin. It's kind of crazy.

Edit: Forgot to point out that these people ARE incredibly smart, and this mutated gene is passed onto them so that they do not "rise up" and take over all of the other planets. Like blinders on a hulk horse.

[–]Kaghuros 4 points5 points ago

They're actually just normal people aren't they? Also I found that section to not only be completely out of place, though I had the same exact feeling about the entirety of the last two books and his bizarre explorations into philosophy.

[–]GeoGeoGeoGeo 103 points104 points ago

[–]LinkRazr 13 points14 points ago

So this just caused me to wake up my GF with violent laughter.

Thanks for that.

[–]JoNightshade 2 points3 points ago

I choked on my orange juice, nearly had a major keyboard accident.

[–]badcomment 664 points665 points ago

Why does Michael J Fox make the best milkshakes?

Because he uses the best ingredients.

[–]gorillapavilion 492 points493 points ago

why can't Michael J Fox draw a perfect circle?

Because that's impossible for any human being.

[–]beaverteeth92 56 points57 points ago

Why doesn't Michael J. Fox need a shake weight?

Because he does not need to lose weight.

[–]redlinezo6 50 points51 points ago

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be reading. But I definitely had never heard of that guy. So thanks, I guess.

[–]Peaslepuff 101 points102 points ago

Vasari also relates that when the Pope sent a messenger to Giotto, asking him to send a drawing to demonstrate his skill, Giotto drew, in red paint, a circle so perfect that it seemed as though it was drawn using a compass and instructed the messenger to give that to the Pope.

BADASS.

[–]goofball_jones 67 points68 points ago

So...the Pope sent a messenger to him:

Messenger: The Pope wants you to send him a drawing, you know, to show how good you are.

Giotto: Cool, so...wait right here for a few moments, I'll be right back.

(after a few minutes) Okay, here you go (hands him a circle in red paint)

Messenger: Um, this is just a circle. How is that skill?

Giotto: No no, I painted that by hand, it's a perfect circle.

Messenger: Right...you painted this by hand. Yeah. You just went back there and drew this by hand and not with that compass covered in red paint I see back there on your workbench...oh I totally believe you.

Giotto: You seem skeptical. But seriously, I did. Oh, and here's a little coin for your trouble. Now go and give that to the Pope and say I drew it by hand and that it's a perfect circle.

[–]Gargan_Roo 13 points14 points ago

Did they even make compasses that work with paintbrushes? I figure that's why he used paint to begin with.

[–]TomHD 50 points51 points ago

  1. Place a pin in the center of your circle to be.

  2. Tie string to the pin.

  3. Tie the other end of the string to the brush.

  4. ????

  5. Circles.

[–]frozenbobo 2 points3 points ago

But then there would be a visible pinhole in the middle...

[–]TomHD 4 points5 points ago

A compass would likely leave a mark too. I was just suggesting a simple paintbrush compass thingy.

[–]SvenHudson 14 points15 points ago

How hard would it be to attach a paintbrush to a compass?

[–]namesrhardtothinkof 22 points23 points ago

Extremely.

[–]thebeginningistheend 10 points11 points ago

If he had, that would also have shown his skill as a painter.

[–]muteterror 7 points8 points ago

bit of rope and something to use as a center point?

[–]redlinezo6 5 points6 points ago

Maybe, just maybe... He, ya know... Used a compass??

[–]Peaslepuff 12 points13 points ago

No.

[–]redlinezo6 18 points19 points ago

ABSOLUTELY OUT OF THE QUESTION!!!!

[–]Killzark 8 points9 points ago

He was able to draw a perfect circle.

[–]ENKC 15 points16 points ago

That band is older than I thought.

[–]redlinezo6 21 points22 points ago

Yeah... maybe by 1305 standards...

[–]SinofOmission 25 points26 points ago

Yeah who uses that circle anymore? It's all about the Apple Circle now.

[–]oblimo_2K12 17 points18 points ago

Squares with rounded edges, man.

[–]imlost19 12 points13 points ago

next millennium is going to be circles with squared edges

[–]FreshChilled 7 points8 points ago

All the edges on circles are already square!

[–]MrBotany 6 points7 points ago

Compasses were around. They could accurately measure a circle and the concept of Pi was understood well before the 14th century. See Archimedes.

[–]opiate46 2 points3 points ago

I'm glad someone posted that reference.

[–]brianbrianbrian 46 points47 points ago

[–]Daftward 34 points35 points ago

[–]algorithmae 1 point2 points ago

The cameraman has my exact same microphone voice. That's really creepy.

[–]HITLERS_NUTSACK 26 points27 points ago

Why does Michael J Fox make the best milkshakes? Because he uses the best ingredients.

THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU LED US TO BELIEVE YOU WERE GOING TO SAY!

[–]Forever-A-Note 175 points176 points ago

I love Michael J. Fox, he's so great. I'm going to a convention next week where he is a speaker and I'm extremely excited.

[–]elgabito 26 points27 points ago

I just saw him at a convention and was surprised at my giddiness.

[–]kikenazz 128 points129 points ago

You must be shaking with excitement

[–]Andypwns 107 points108 points ago

[–]illaqueable 88 points89 points ago

They know, right? They have to know. They can't not know. Right..?

[–]orchestraninja 65 points66 points ago

Just look at her expression. She knows.

[–]rewere3 65 points66 points ago

[–]FlappyTheNarwhal 21 points22 points ago

That's the smile of a killer.

[–]darktemplardude 16 points17 points ago

That's the smile of a sucker.

[–]FlappyTheNarwhal 2 points3 points ago

Actually she was having flashbacks from when she was driving a machete through a man's chest with that same exact motion.

[–]porgio 5 points6 points ago

I have this gif saved in a special place. For, you know, entertainment purposes.

[–]Deftonez 2 points3 points ago

"Wait a second...I recognize this rhythm...Aww, shucks!!!"

[–]mainsworth 0 points1 point ago

Yes...

[–]MrConfucius 15 points16 points ago

That was the most unexpected boner I've gotten.

[–]I_RAPE_PEOPLE_II 11 points12 points ago

Are you 11?

[–]punkminkis 27 points28 points ago

At first glance of your username, I thought I knew why you were asking that question...

[–]Astrapsody 4 points5 points ago

okay

[–]biitchhplease 3 points4 points ago

oh ho ho

[–]8732846 5 points6 points ago

He's such a swell guy. Also he looks like he hasn't aged a day since BTTF.

[–]jimmypopali 239 points240 points ago

He was walking over to the paper towel before he even opened the bottle. Michael knew.

[–]McSofa 144 points145 points ago

Well, if you watch the scene, it's clear in the way he says "Parkinsons" that he did it on purpose.

[–]jimmypopali 80 points81 points ago

I guess I should watch the scene ¯_(ツ)_/¯

[–]Tarbourite 47 points48 points ago

your poor little man has only one arm

[–]The_Junk 22 points23 points ago

But two shoulders and hands.

[–]JAsherP 2 points3 points ago

He's half RayMan.

[–]MirakeshExpress 5 points6 points ago

Life gives, life takes.

[–]kikenazz 24 points25 points ago

Your response is about equivalent to the gif

[–]gizza[!] 3 points4 points ago

If only there existed a technology that could give us moving pictures and sound at the same time.

[–]jimmypopali 6 points7 points ago

What do you think this is, the future?

[–]bahaki 72 points73 points ago

I can only imagine him trying to use a touch screen phone. Longest game of Draw Something ever.

[–]captainJmorgan 135 points136 points ago

people dont play that game anymore

[–]Lt_Ziggella_Stardust 60 points61 points ago

Michael J. Fox still is.

[–]Lettuce_Get_Weird 58 points59 points ago

He never got past the swipe to unlock screen

[–]rubixcubez 6 points7 points ago

Apple was granted a specific patent just for Michael J. Fox -

".. a way of unlocking the screen by mashing it repeatedly in a seemingly random manner"

[–]bahaki 7 points8 points ago

Longest game ever

[–]xhephaestusx 3 points4 points ago

I do, I actually got a lot of downvotes for posting a SS of my over 100 score very recently.

[–]captainJmorgan 10 points11 points ago

"proudest moment of your life" should never include draw something...

just kidding, but seriously.

[–]xhephaestusx 13 points14 points ago

For a bunch of people who almost universally consider themselves funny, reddit has at best a tenuous grip on the meaning of things like "jokes," and "sarcasm," and "comedic hyperbole" to name just a few

[–]captainJmorgan 3 points4 points ago

nah i understand. i was only kidding.

submit it to r/mildlyinteresting

its like a miscellaneous subreddit, that is more popular than r/misc

[–]xhephaestusx 2 points3 points ago

yeah, I should have, and if I cared that much I totally would again

[–]captainJmorgan 2 points3 points ago

but....but...but...self validation in the form of internet points?

[–]xhephaestusx 5 points6 points ago

I prefer comment karma because it's way easier to get

[–]dbil93 130 points131 points ago

I was watching Homeward Bound awhile ago and Michael J. Fox is one of the dog's voices. A little kid goes up to the dog and says "shake." The parent then said "He doesn't shake." I laughed for 30 minutes.

[–]MichaelJayDog 50 points51 points ago

ಠ_ಠ

[–]eifersucht12a 14 points15 points ago

Account age: 133 days.

Beautiful.

[–]Lettuce_Get_Weird 13 points14 points ago

I bet you anything he's thought about that and chuckled...or cried...

[–]dbil93 2 points3 points ago

or a mixture of both

[–]fab11 31 points32 points ago

This is the first link I ever clicked on when I first began this thing called reddit.

[–]burningsok 26 points27 points ago

The circle has been completed.

[–]DizzyNW 25 points26 points ago

You must die now and be absorbed into the hivemind. Apostolate will pick you up in a few days. I'm sorry.

[–]authentic_trust_me 2 points3 points ago

It's time, fab11, time for you to go. Your circle is full.

Your time is up.

[–]SeamusMcCullagh 18 points19 points ago

You guys hear about fab11? He closed his loop tonight.

[–]WokHunt 252 points253 points ago

"Knock knock, knock knock knock knock, knock knock knock knock knock, knock knock knock." "Who's There?" "Michael J. Fox"

[–]imlost19 33 points34 points ago

does this work on real people or only internet people? i want to steal this for use in the wild

[–]jack12354 32 points33 points ago

yeah just do the first two normal, then keep saying knock as fast as you can until someone stops you.

Knock, Knock, knockknockknockknockknockknockknockknockknock

JESUS CHRIST WHO IS IT.

Michael J Fox.

[–]sittingaround 332 points333 points ago

[–]Kruse 36 points37 points ago

Annnd...I'm going to hell.

[–]notAtomicBaum 36 points37 points ago

It's cool; you can repent by clicking at the top of the page.

[–]LerithXanatos 3 points4 points ago

Wow, that's pretty cool!

[–]sittingaround 2 points3 points ago

Which is why I love sharing this link so much:

Stage 1: news about micheal j fox, ok, i'll click

Stage 2: oh my god, this is hilarious and offensive. I'm going to hell.

Stage 3: oh, this is an awareness campaign. well played McFly, well played.

[–]calebb 29 points30 points ago

This is difficult because a.) it's hysterically clever and b.) I have no way to post this on my Facebook without looking like a dick.

[–]linedrive18 3 points4 points ago

I did it regardless. I'm in tears right now. I can't even think of anything witty for Reddit. I'm just laughing, and it feels good.

[–]bytor_2112 143 points144 points ago

fair, maybe. balanced? not so much

[–]SinofOmission 69 points70 points ago

But it shakes to the right just as much as it shakes to the left.

[–]bytor_2112 16 points17 points ago

fair, maybe

[–]TheNarwhalingBacon 47 points48 points ago

This is incredibly clever.

[–]superclap 9 points10 points ago

I can't be the only one who shook their head trying to normalize the page.

[–]maxpower770 34 points35 points ago

I think you might just be the only person who did that.

Guys.... this might be the first time someone said "I can't be the only one who ______" and it literally was.

[–]emu420 4 points5 points ago

Yes. Yes you are the only one.

[–]Guy_Barker 19 points20 points ago

Someone please give me the source of this.

[–]HaydosMang 14 points15 points ago

Do yourself a favour and watch one of the best comedies of all time.

[–]matlick 2 points3 points ago

I wish it wasn't $20/month. (HBO)

[–]HaydosMang 3 points4 points ago

I purchase them on iTunes (though its not that cost effective). Alternatively you can torrent them.

[–]dnbVice 53 points54 points ago

I will upvote anything containing Michael J. Fox

[–]ericshogren 20 points21 points ago

This sounds like a challenge.

[–]MySockHurts 3 points4 points ago

I too accept this challenge.

[–]DarkestPassenger 68 points69 points ago

He was the cameraman for Cloverfield right? *Yes i understand this is a joke in bad taste, and I do recognize MJF has a terrible condition, but I think even he would chuckle a bit at that joke. Also MJF is awesome and I'd love to meet him.

[–]KingZuul 12 points13 points ago

[–]I_RAPE_SMALL_PUPPIES 79 points80 points ago

I used this in a presentation on Parkinsons in my Health Class last year.

Everyone seemed pretty shaken.

[–]curf 41 points42 points ago

They may have actually shook at seeing your username

[–]Phoenixx777 12 points13 points ago

Oh you.

[–]Gallifrasian 14 points15 points ago

You know, your name could also be written as I_RAPE_MIDGET_BITCHES

[–]leatheryhamster 53 points54 points ago

As someone whose father suffers from Parkinson's Disease, I can honestly say that this is hilarious. (Yes, my father has the amazing ability to laugh at himself!)

[–]danielmayhem 21 points22 points ago

That's all you can do sometimes to cope with the disease. My friends family has a grandmother going through Alzheimer's, and the only way they cope is with jokes (and pretty twisted ones at that), but it gets them through it.

So props to ya.

[–]bulletbillx 18 points19 points ago

There's a term for it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallows_humor - If people were unable to use humor to deal with harsh and sometimes hopeless situations they'd be unable to cope.

[–]mandarr 8 points9 points ago

My mother has it as well and she's always cracking jokes about it. There really isn't much to do besides embrace the fact that it's there.

[–]Gallifrasian 11 points12 points ago

"Pfft. Who needs a vibrator?"

[–]brownmagician 39 points40 points ago

Do you want to lose all your friends ever? Act like Larry David.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]gharrity 23 points24 points ago

And if you've become rich and successful by making great comedy shows with the friends you DO have, the fucks you'd give over not everyone liking you would be pret-ty, pret-ty, pret-ty, pret-ty few.

[–]joshman196 26 points27 points ago

The motherfucker has always been a boss.

He went 88 miles per hour.

EIGHTY. FUCKING. EIGHT.

And I bet he even lifts.

[–]IM_THAT_POTATO 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, he uses the Shake Weight.

[–]MeNoHaveTV 6 points7 points ago

"I have a sickness in my brain, you have a sickness in your mind."

I LOVED this episode. MJF was my favorite movie star as a kid and now he's a world renowned hero. Can't wait for his new show.

[–]helicopterquartet 7 points8 points ago

[–]Schmiddy108 4 points5 points ago

My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson's this past year, and I'm so thankful for an individual like Michael J Fox who give me hope and courage that a normal lifestyle is still within reach. So thankful for all his efforts.

[–]ImaMartian08 1 point2 points ago

Haha this reminds me of the show "Curb Your Enthusiasm". Funny show! I think Michael J Fox played a small role in that too.

[–]Express45 9 points10 points ago

Good thing he didn't hand you his Dick.

[–]specialservices 8 points9 points ago

Why does anyone have to be a "BOSS"?

[–]KnightBlue 2 points3 points ago

How does one even achieve "BOSS" status?

[–]alaphic 30 points31 points ago

  1. Finish in under 3 hours
  2. Kill 25 or less
  3. No Rations
  4. No Continues

[–]louie82 14 points15 points ago
