That's actually a Mangalitza. Awesome pig, good for sausages and bacons.

[–]tk220 181 points182 points ago

I had never seen one of these until I was about 16, and the local county fair had a pen full of them.

I hugged one. It was amazing.

[–]smilenowgirl 50 points51 points ago

Cute.

[–]Ossyrial 4 points5 points ago

If I'd see one irl before I saw this, I would probably think it's real life photoshop.

[–]BaconGivesMeALardon 37 points38 points ago

What they are really know for is the level of fat in them. Stellar for Lardo! The fat cap in these guys are just awesome. Bacon they are good for but sausages all pigs are good for. Sausage is what you do with the left overs. If any chefs are ever interested in getting a taste you can go to the best sources such as Mosefund Farms in New Jersey. If any farmer are interested in purchasing them for their farm. http://www.puremangalitsa.com can hook you up. Feed them Barley, acorns or Pecans for the last 30 days of their life and you will end up with some of the finest pork and fat of your life.

[–]leo2308 10 points11 points ago

Look reddit, at what we have created...

[–]OwlOwlowlThis 13 points14 points ago

"ALardon"? Really?

[–]BaconGivesMeALardon 17 points18 points ago

[–]PotatoSalad 3 points4 points ago

Wow. Solid information.

[–]snowlion13 10 points11 points ago

what a mess. i cant imagine having a pig that had hair that can get matted in the mud

[–]gmick 9 points10 points ago

Aren't all pigs good for sausages and bacon?

[–]devilspawn 3 points4 points ago

Not always. You need lots of fat, Mangalitzas are very fat. My family found that when we did Mangaliztas the sausages were slightly gamey. Needless to say, we don't do them anymore as people want actual meat, not just fat. I still want a pet one though.

[–]worthlessoriginal 7 points8 points ago

Ate at Mangalica és Társai Huspatika while in Budapest, Hungary. Was not disappointed.

Edit: for those who don't speak Hungarian, Huspatika means "Meat Pharmacy", and damn did it cure what ailed me!

[–]ToffeeC 1 point2 points ago

That's fucked.

[–]AdmiralSkippy 4 points5 points ago

There's pig that isn't good for sausages and bacons?

[–]RyJones 0 points1 point ago

OMG the bacons.

[–]getmadbaby 0 points1 point ago

Bacons

[–]gkaukola 0 points1 point ago

Fuck all that. Looks like pork rinds / cracklins / chicharones would be a nightmare to produce and eat.

[–]ink_fink 3 points4 points ago

and merkins.

[–]towmeaway 2 points3 points ago

And good for sweaters?

[–]gagepac 1 point2 points ago

Amazingly thick back fat too. Great for lardo.

[–]DiaDeLosMuertos 1 point2 points ago

So it's "Some Pig!"?

[–]masamunecyrus 1 point2 points ago

Pork is white meat; mutton is red meat. Also, I've had wild boar hot dogs and they are astounding.

Do want.

[–]dadRabbit 1 point2 points ago

And I could have sworn it was photo shopped.

[–]TelcoBro 1 point2 points ago

Good for sausage.....and cuddling!!

[–]QueenOfBrews 1 point2 points ago

Find me a pig that isn't good for sausage and bacons.

[–]ScruffaloBill 1 point2 points ago

Also known as the Hungarian wooly pig, Mangalica hogs look like 1980's sitcom legend, Alf.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

i am so glad this is real.

[–]NethChild -1 points0 points ago

Ten bacons, please!

[–]Verlind13 36 points37 points ago

So it's a shig or a peep ?

[–]CharlesDOliver 45 points46 points ago

It's clearly a Shig.

[–]ExxL 30 points31 points ago

Or a Peep

[–]beero 10 points11 points ago

Maybe it's Rog or a Ham? Wait a second....

[–]lovesickremix 4 points5 points ago

pshig - the kid wanted me to point this out

[–]Romanulus 3 points4 points ago

Shpig... Not to be confused with ShePig: Your mother.

[–]eric0rr 24 points25 points ago

[–]frontseatdog 11 points12 points ago

Why not Poodle Pig?

[–]drageuth2 36 points37 points ago

Hm, a quick google search says that not only can that wool be spun but it's naturally hydrophobic. Why the hell aren't we farming the living fuck out of these things? Pigs are way less trouble than sheep, and they are made of bacon.

[–]UwHoogheid 11 points12 points ago

My dad had sheep and pigs, and I´m here to tell you that pigs are way more trouble. They are more intelligent and can do more damage when they get aggresive.

[–]drageuth2 6 points7 points ago

Really? I've only ever kept goats and chickens... The goats weren't much trouble because they were generally smart enough to look after themselves. The chickens were so stupid they blundered into trouble all the time and couldn't get themselves out of it...

[–]UwHoogheid 5 points6 points ago

yeah, chickens are quite stupid. Turkeys are the least intelligent of all animals we had. They will eat sawdust... we had some angora goats and they were more intelligent then the sheep.

[–]justskidding 5 points6 points ago

I would so try knitting with that. I've also wondered about knitting with scottish highland cows, and I do want to try dog-wool, though obviously that has the problem of having a lot of allergens for a lot of people. Dog wool is super soft, though, like cashmere (Which is rabbit).

[–]raptosaurus 12 points13 points ago

Actually cashmere comes from a type of goat called the, you guessed it, Cashmere. You may be thinking of angora, which comes from angora rabbits.

[–]justskidding 2 points3 points ago

it always gets me that there are angora goats and angora rabbits. I always think of the angora goats first, which is really stupid, because I'm an ex-rabbit breeder. Not fibre rabbits, though. My rabbits have too short a staple for spinning.

Whoever decided angora goats make mohair was dumb.

[–]slhendrix 4 points5 points ago

Everyone should be aware of the sheer fluffiness of the angora rabbit.

[–]WhitePostIt 1 point2 points ago

Pigs, while not slobs, do wallow in the mud to keep cool in the hot summers because they have no sweat glands. Now imagine having no sweat glands and covered in a sweater.

[–]Rabbito_17 4 points5 points ago

Pretty sure dogs don't have sweat glands either

[–]drageuth2 7 points8 points ago

If I recall, usually fur and wool will help serve as a heat manager on animals... And even if not, then just raise them in colder areas

[–]DuckyPlum 6 points7 points ago

Those pigs will bang anything. http://buffalobeast.com/69/PBF038ADBaconEgg.jpg

[–]mason2113 15 points16 points ago

[–]fasda 4 points5 points ago

Exactly a totally normal animal much like the majestic Platypus Bear.

[–]Lt_Ziggella_Stardust 5 points6 points ago

Dude, everyday on my way to work I pass an animal that I have named Shecowig, do to my inability to decide if it where a sheep, cow or pig. This seems to be the same creature. I wish I had a picture but mine has cow markings, sheep fur and the body of a pig.

[–]KennyRevived 6 points7 points ago

much better combo. http://i.imgur.com/7FArw.jpg

[–]fatdonuthole 5 points6 points ago

At first I thought I was looking at one of the most well-done photoshops I had ever seen.

[–]Astralwizerdd 10 points11 points ago

Did farmers get bored of regular sheep sex?

[–]Retsoka 3 points4 points ago

I think it's a photosheep...

Shpig.

[–]Prissy-prancin 2 points3 points ago

Baaaacon

[–]naked-pooper 2 points3 points ago

I, like many other redditors, probably click "open link in new tab" for about five or six headlines at a time. I do this mindlessly most of the time. Such is the case for "Sheep Pig". I literally didn't even think about what it was, I just saw two words I recognized and opened a new tab. Never been happier.

[–]Ob1_Wan 2 points3 points ago

Ba Ram UUUUUU! Ba Ram UUUUU!

[–]jeg101586 -1 points0 points ago

Great, another picture douchbag Facebook God can steal and claim as his own.

[–]SirPoop 2 points3 points ago

Bacon AND wool? I'm definitely getting a few of these for my apocalyptic zombie shelter.

[–]Bootinator 2 points3 points ago

That'll do, that'll do

[–]TehNinjuh 2 points3 points ago

That reminds me of the little pig that follows you around in Monster Hunter. You could dress it as a sheep. :P

[–]russiantrace 2 points3 points ago

HAS SCIENCE FINALLY GONE TOO FAR?!

[–]Qriztofer 2 points3 points ago

Sheep pig, sheepdog, sheep-goat, sheeple...where will it end??

[–]Zebidee 2 points3 points ago

There's an expression in German, Eierlegende Wollmilchsau (egg-laying woolly milk pig), meaning a product or person that does everything with no downside. This looks pretty close, but I'll let someone else try the eggs first.

[–]WalrusKaput 2 points3 points ago

How is this wtf? This is awesome.

[–]BringerOfPaine 3 points4 points ago

[–]merpppp 1 point2 points ago

Fact check me, there has been genetic modification experiments done to tomato plants involving the "long-hair" pig gene, resulting in furry-coated tomatoes which are impervious to a tomato pest which cannot chew through the coat.

[–]pimpzqi 1 point2 points ago

Also known as a Mangalitsa. AKA Wool Pig. Bred as a lard pig, the fat content allows for great curing. Mangalitsa Jamon is a salt cured ham that is considered a delicacy/snack in Spain. It is of similar caliber to Iberian Ham.

[–]ISolvedCube 1 point2 points ago

Omg I want one...

[–]themuffinman357 1 point2 points ago

[–]CowsWithGuns304 1 point2 points ago

The pig, if I am not mistaken,
Supplies us with sausage, ham and bacon,
Let others say his heart is big,
I call it stupid of the pig.

This is from a collection of other peoples poetry and rhymes put together by Roald Dahl - if I remember correctly.
