Yep. I particularly liked how this was referenced in the 3OH3 song "DONTTRUSTME":

As I understand it, the 'X's for straightedge were an outgrowth of the minor-marking trend. But in that case, it's marking yourself to show your abstinence from foreign substances, which is kind of poetic. If only the subculture didn't have such a violent reputation, it'd be pretty cool.
