Man, Romney's grandson is cute. He seems sweet, too, with that big smile. This election is ridiculous, but at least in this one, the kids' only roles are looking cute and being kids, which is nice.

[–]sylvanfletcher 113 points114 points ago

It's kind of sad really. He's just a child who seems excited to be shaking hands with the President. All of this resentment, and anger, and mud slinging, and he's just a kid who probably doesn't have a care in the world.

A friend of mine had that poster in his room growing up and I never understood it.. Haha.. Haven't thought about it in years.

[–]Devanismyname 2 points3 points ago

Is Mitt Romneys son all that bad? I don't know anything about him. I genuinly wamt to know if he takes after his father or not.

[–]JakeLV426 1 point2 points ago

I don't really know. One of the other sons caught some heat last week for saying he'd like to punch Obama, and there's controversy right now about one of their investment firms owning electronic voting machines scheduled to be used in the upcoming election, and the same one I think was possibly involved in some huge ponzi scheme.

[–]Devanismyname -3 points-2 points ago

There is a pretty good chance that the Democrats may be speading rumots to damage their reputation.

[–]PeeWeePangolin 7 points8 points ago

You sound like my grandma. "They are spreading lies about good old Mitt." It's true there is a definite connection. Here is an article http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/19137

Imagine the uproar if Obama had a business connection to voting machines. You would never hear the end of it.

[–]the_goat_boy 100 points101 points ago

My name is Buck, and I'm here to fuck.

[–]GoGoGadge7 122 points123 points ago

No, this isn't in that scene.

[–]Jyon 17 points18 points ago

He is, though.

[–]the_goat_boy 2 points3 points ago

What scene?

[–]jhc1415 4 points5 points ago

Why do people always downvote everyone simply wondering what we are referencing? This is a scene from Kill Bill vol 1. here's the link. SPOILER WARNING: this is one of the first scenes in the movie however, it does contain a minor spoiler. if you just want to see the quote skip here.

[–]GoGoGadge7 2 points3 points ago

The scene in which there is what... a 10 year old talking to The Bride.

Buck came (heh) before in the timeline of events in the universe but (i believe it's been a while) after that scene in the film.

[–]fireline12 29 points30 points ago

Why is Romney being racist/racially insensitive a joke? I don't agree with the man, but I don't think he's a bad person either.

[–]wioneo 7 points8 points ago

I don't think it's an insult on the child, but a reference to the low percentage of blacks in Massachusetts. I don't know if it's true or not.

[–]kanahmal 15 points16 points ago

Until 1978 (when Romney was 21 years old) the Mormon Church was racist, not allowing black people to fully participate in the church. Also it is taught in the Book of Mormon that god made certain peoples black as punishment for turning away from god.

Also he is a bad person. Look it up.

[–]do7com 16 points17 points ago

Just so we are clear, Obama has no ties to any radical church leaders, right?

[–]aeonstrife 5 points6 points ago

To be fair, it's not really fair to compare one relationship with a radical leader to a fundamental aspect of an entire faith system.

[–]do7com 13 points14 points ago

If you want to get into fundamental aspects of the Christian religion, I don't think anyone is going to have a good time.

[–]marswithrings 104 points105 points ago

I can't be the only one who's had at least a tiny bit of faith in Romney restored for this, can I? The kid is obviously happy to meet Obama, and at his age, the President could very easily have been villainized for him by his family. The fact that he happily greets his grandfather's opponent like this, well, it certainly doesn't mean Romney would make a good president - but at least he's done something right in the way he's raised his family.

/inb4 cynics claiming it's just good politics to teach the kid to be 2-faced at a young age/

[–]downboat-ahoy 126 points127 points ago

I think it just shows how warped your views of Romney are. When did he display hatred for Obama or anything other than being a good family man?

[–]huntgrav 97 points98 points ago

I think it's hilarious that Reddit finds it unusual for Mitt Romney to be doing anything that suggests he might not be Satan's spawn.

[–]BeezowPooPoo_ZGopGop 32 points33 points ago

That's why I'm positive I never want to meet anyone on reddit in real life. Fucking weirdo far left wackos.

[–]mcnublets 17 points18 points ago

Don't ever go to college then.

[–]BeezowPooPoo_ZGopGop 1 point2 points ago

Been there done that.

[–]chemistry_teacher 7 points8 points ago

Your comment is itself nearly as presumptive as the top comment, for it makes a blanket statement of the reddit stereotype. If anything, reddit's subs demonstrate a rather enormous universe of thought, even if the overall conclusion is that our fellows might vote left of center by percentage.

I have seen a large number of discussions where non "fucking weirdo far left wacko" thought were treated respectfully and even very supportively.

[–]Boomanchu 4 points5 points ago

Since when did a community have to be completely homogenous to make a generalization? Typically, anyone who expresses an opinion that's contrary to that of the hive mind is downvoted into oblivion, unless of course it's in a thread where differing opinions are called upon. We upvote that which validates our opinions, and downvote that which does not.

Essentially, Reddit is just an echo chamber.

[–]chemistry_teacher 1 point2 points ago

If I disagree with your statement about the echo chamber, should such a reply be upvoted or downvoted? It doesn't matter to me or anything, but I wonder which one is hive-oriented and which is not.

At any rate, I tend to avoid generalizations because I find them (generally) presumptive. If there is a generalization to be made, perhaps it is that the front page is loaded with submissions that are upvoted without regard for content, which often proves the submission statement to be substantially in error. Comments often discredit the submission, yet somehow they manage to become popular.

It is for this reason that I rarely vote on submissions, focusing on the comments instead.

But then again, maybe I am merely an exception to the hive mind/echo chamber. Perhaps this simply proves my original point.

[–]ChickinSammich 3 points4 points ago

Everyone agrees with everything Reddit says, and any dissent is quickly downvoted. The only exception-the only opinion more popular than this is the dissent.

Pointing out the circlejerk has become the new circlejerk.

[–]oderint_dum_metuant 0 points1 point ago

Reddit makes FOX News look like PBS. Pull your head out of your ass.

[–]Ftumsh -4 points-3 points ago

From where I'm sitting, they're not even far left. They're just tribal in their Democrat atheism.

[–]rareas 0 points1 point ago

When people on the left start obsessively buying the same brands as our favorite nascar driver you can call us tribal all you want. Until then . . .

[–]Ftumsh 0 points1 point ago

I think you misunderstand. "From where I'm sitting" means that Reddit isn't anywhere near the left from my point of view. It is, however, shockingly partisan.

You also seem to have a narrow definition of tribalism. The overwhelming promotion of anything Obama does, the knee-jerk anti-Romneyism - even when he says something not too bad - and an inability even to try to understand those of faith, the massive downvoting of anything even close to explaining cultures and beliefs with which the atheist concensus disagrees, etc. etc. leads me to interpret the behaviour as tribal, even though it isn't anything at all to do with brands. (But of course it is to do with brands, since Oreo and Chik-fil-A jumped into a debate that shouldn't even exist.)

I am a liberal atheist European, by the way.

[–]MrDTD 20 points21 points ago

Romney doesn't hate the player, he hates the game.

[–]inajeep 17 points18 points ago

No, he loves the games.

[–]sloppyjo99 -2 points-1 points ago

Not the Olympic Games.

[–]a-dark-passenger 14 points15 points ago

He helped one of the best (most profitable) Olympics take place. Why doesn't he like the Olympic games?

[–]isthat_edward_towers 7 points8 points ago

cuz cuz cuz... umm cuz... he's a liar!

-reddit

[–]whale_omelette 1 point2 points ago

He definitely did. Using more government funding than any US Olympics up until that time.

[–]a-dark-passenger 3 points4 points ago

Since the previous Olympics had been in '96, is it that shocking that the 02 committee spent more? After 9/11, when security was at it's peak? Way to make it sound like he's the bad guy, when he actually came in and fixed it. I know defending him is a sin on Reddit but you are just trying to hard to hate.

PS You know what's crazy? I bet the next one the US has will have more 'government funding' then 2002. Why? because it's going to be a while before we get them again and the cost of everything has gone up since 2002

[–]whale_omelette 1 point2 points ago

Probably so. It just seems inconsistent for someone so opposed to government spending. I get that it's practical and I have no problem with the government funding the Olympics. That said, I'm pretty sure if he hadn't been in charge and someone else made the same choice Gov. Romney would have objected. Loud and long. He may or may not be a bad guy, but he clearly has a double standard about government spending and that shouldn't be ignored.

[–]Odusei 11 points12 points ago

It's been quite a long time since we've had rival politicians who actually hated one another, especially in a presidential race. It's usually their crazy rabid fanbases that act that way. Same as with Macs and PCs or the "console wars."

[–]Delaywaves 7 points8 points ago

Did you watch the debates? They might not hate each other, but they certainly aren't fond of each other.

[–]MrForgettyPants 42 points43 points ago

It's almost like they're competing for the same job.

[–]Iamkazam 5 points6 points ago

I miss the good ol' days of American politics, when our presidential candidates would beat each other with canes and call each other's wives whores.

[–]Odusei 1 point2 points ago

Sadly most politicians don't have canes anymore.

[–]StephensonB 0 points1 point ago

You don't think Bush and Gore hated each other? Or Bush and Kerry? Or Bush Sr and Clinton?

[–]Odusei 2 points3 points ago

Nope, I really don't. Most of those guys hang out with each other in their free time when the press couldn't give less of a shot what they do. After Obama leaves office, I guarantee he'll be chilling with Clinton, W, Bush sr, and maybe even Romney. Politics is a strange game, but Mitt and Barack have way more in common with one another than you or I do with either of them.

[–]StephensonB 1 point2 points ago

Hang out with each other in their free time? I think you're confusing political events and charity fundraisers for actual friendship. These people are not friends in any way.

[–]Odusei 0 points1 point ago

Their post-politics lives are pretty much just golf and charity events. Nevertheless, the Presidents Club is a real thing, and it's not hard to find evidence of Clinton and the Bushes hanging out with one another in their free time. In one or five years, Obama will be joining them.

[–]marswithrings 4 points5 points ago

To the contrary, I've tried to point out that Romney is only human here on reddit multiple times. Problem I've had with that, is that reddit hates him so much - as suggested in some of the other responses I see you've received - that the hivemind automatically attacks anything that suggests he's anything less than a power hungry warmonger who will go to war with China and generally be the first horsemen of the apocalypse if he gets elected.

I personally find these views ridiculous and dehumanizing. But so bluntly stating so in the past has gotten my opinion written off instantly, without anyone really caring to examine it. So, I intentionally wrote that comment to give the appearance that I give Romney less credit than I actually give him, in the hopes that more people would actually stop and consider the point I was making. And call me crazy, but it appears to have worked...

[–]whale_omelette 0 points1 point ago

I agree with your point, but there's just as little information showing he's a "good family man" either. Lot's of shitty families present well in public. He may be a great husband/father/grandfather, but we don't know that anymore than we know he's a "horrible racist/sexist/what have you."

[–]thepenfifteenclub 1 point2 points ago

Obama really doesn’t like, admire or even grudgingly respect Romney. It’s a level of contempt, say aides, he doesn’t even feel for the conservative, combative House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, the Hill Republican he disliked the most. “There was a baseline of respect for John McCain. The president always thought he was an honorable man and a war hero,” a longtime Obama adviser said. “That doesn’t hold true for Romney. He was no goddamned war hero.”

Obama hates Romney. That's not really a secret. I don't know if Romney actually has emotions for people outside of his family.

[–]blueyedlvrx01 27 points28 points ago

Obama is still president of the United States. Wouldn't you want to meet the president, too?

[–]mamac 6 points7 points ago

"Now when you grow up you can say you met the president."

[–]haberdasher42 6 points7 points ago

They greeted each other very warmly before the debate as well.

[–]edave22 3 points4 points ago

Romney is a human being like you and me. I believe he is strictly business (I am the same way).

By that I mean while working he will do what it takes to get the job done, and while not working he is a dad/brother/husband etc.

I am not a fan of Romney because we have two different views on business ethics and I dont believe America is a business or should be run by a business man.

[–]BakerBitch -2 points-1 points ago

Sure... he's a guy with a job, that goes home at the end of the day to this family. So are a lot of other people. I don't think he deserves any extra credit for it.

[–]CoffinRehersal 0 points1 point ago

I think you missed his point. I think what he was getting at is that despite what a lot of people would like to think Romney doesn't go home after a long day of work only to retire to his dark lair to twist the heads off puppies.

Is he the guy I want to be president? No. Is he an evil man? I seriously fucking doubt it.

[–]shord143 0 points1 point ago

NO MITTENS! NOT THE PUPPIES!

[–]BakerBitch 1 point2 points ago

Am I expected to be impressed that he's not evil? Or surprised? I think that says something about the man and the image he conveys.

[–]CoffinRehersal -1 points0 points ago

What!? No. That's my entire point.

[–]Lame-Duck 2 points3 points ago

You people are crazy... Yes, you.

[–]I_Pee_Sitting_Up 28 points29 points ago

Is there anyone that Obama won't bow to? Princes, Kings, Presidents, and now children?!? When will this madness stop! National pride...we bow to no one.....stop putting America last, rabble rabble rabble!

Edit: It's a joke people, good lord.

[–]marcocholo -1 points0 points ago

The hive mind, remember? You have to belittle Romney, not Obama.

[–]Vaynor 9 points10 points ago

Now when he's older he can say he met the president.

[–]omfgforealz 2 points3 points ago

That's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity

[–]Tryle 28 points29 points ago

Typical Obama apology tour bowing to another leader/future leader.

[–]devilsadvocated 4 points5 points ago

I may not agree with his politics, but putting that aside, I think it would be awesome to meet a sitting president.

[–]JakeLV426 8 points9 points ago

"Why did God paint you?"

[–]Some_Random_Account2 2 points3 points ago

Holy shit, it's almost like these two candidates are actual people just like you and me. It's like people can put aside their political differences, at least just for a moment, to act like human beings.

[–]leek_boy 4 points5 points ago

Oooooh deep he bowed.... Amerika why you so weak! You need leader strong and not bowing! Like strong cowboy bush!

[–]CNDNFighter 0 points1 point ago

Mitt Romney's grandson looks hilariously similar to Mitt Romney

[–]LiquidLogiK 0 points1 point ago

[–]Melnorme 2 points3 points ago

[–]Parasiterex 0 points1 point ago

Bam! Right in the family!

[–]bizhead 2 points3 points ago

I think at this point I'd rather have his Grandson as president. He seems more geniune.

[–]DarrenEdwards 2 points3 points ago

"Later you will be able to tell your child that you met an actual president!"

[–]JeepDispenser 1 point2 points ago

I thought it was a little much to bring out so many members of his family onto that little stage. I noticed that Obama isn't showing his daughters at any of these events.

[–]searchingforshinies 3 points4 points ago

They probably have school.

[–]Apeshaft 3 points4 points ago

I'm Swedish and I'm pretty sure that's Paul Ryan...

[–]butth3rd3r 3 points4 points ago

Breaking news Romney's grandchild sent to reform school for coming across the aisle!!!

[–]blundermine 3 points4 points ago

Later:

Mitt: Why were you smiling when you shook Obama's hand?

Grandson: It'll probably be the only time I get to meet a president.

[–]Tzombie 1 point2 points ago

Obama bows to EVERYBODY!!!

</sarcasm>

[–]DannyBoi1Derz 0 points1 point ago

I can just here Obama saying "How are you?" with that emphasis on YOU he does.

[–]Ptolemaeus_II 1 point2 points ago

Obama looks pissed. It looks like he's trying to set him on fire with his stare.

[–]quarksurfer 3 points4 points ago

I think he's just looking intently and engaging. kids like to be treated a bit older than they are i my experience. the kids reaction shows that.

[–]deejay_reich 0 points1 point ago

Hmm, I am reminded of this movie.

[–]philsredditaccount -2 points-1 points ago
