Have you considered that if there weren't so many reposts, you could just go to top, arrange by a longer period of time, and view all the posts? Then new people could easily see the good old content, and it wouldn't end up on the front page constantly. This also frees up more room for new content to be seen, upvoted, and make it to that top listing.
