You just caused me to have the same reaction.

[–]King_of_Beets 0 points1 point ago

why not simply throw them away?

[–]EskimoJ4CK 6 points7 points ago

I think they mean that they grabbed for where their ciggs usually are, but because they threw them away... http://i.imgur.com/7lRoj.gif

[–]aargghhhh[S] 3 points4 points ago

Yes, exactly.

[–]ComputerJerk 26 points27 points ago

First big attempt to stop in a while for me, today is Day #1. I felt good right up until I ran out of coffee...

Edit: I had a stash of instant sachets that got me through the day

[–]aargghhhh[S] 21 points22 points ago

This is my first time. I'm about a week in and still doing this. I decided to quit coffee too cos i smoke every time i coffee. So many headaches... We'll make it!

[–]VanCityActivist 14 points15 points ago

I quit October 6th! It gets easier, and so worth it! Just look at your bank account if you need motivation

[–]ComputerJerk 15 points16 points ago

The worst of it's over, you just have to fight your own programming now. Break the patterns by enjoying your coffee sans smoke and give the tobacco industry the finger :)

[–]QuantumStorm 2 points3 points ago

Invest in an e-cig! I'm 55 days without a real one and it's been smooth sailing! We have a great electronic cigarette subreddit herevto help!

[–]heimdalsgate 8 points9 points ago

This is when you link us to that subreddit :)

Just do some reading in the /r/, it is informative, and there are many real world experience comments there. Many people who are chronic (multiple packs a day) smokers are able to "quit" tobacco the first day, due to the remaining "analog" and "physical" aspect to an e-cig.

Some people trying to quit actually begin to miss the ritual, not even the nicotine/smoking. This allows you to wean yourself off the carcinogens while still keeping the ritual. Once this happens, you can lower your dosages of nicotine in the e-fluid and wean off nicotine as well (if that is your desire).

I don't smoke, and I never have, but I picked up some e-cigs/researched to help my mom quit, who has been smoking since I was a little kid (in secret). After a lot of research, I feel like this is one way where a seriously addicted smoker can quit. It's less disruptive than quitting cold turkey, and like I've read so many times: Many people don't have a problem with nicotine cravings when on the patch/gum/etc, but they physically do miss the ritual of puffing and having a smoke between the fingers.

Note: One downside to the e-cig is that you don't "finish" one. You basically continue to puff until you feel like you're done. This can lead to INCREASED nicotine consumption. With an "analog" cig, once it's out, you're done, and the nicotine intake is relatively discrete, so there'll be an adjustment period for those switching.

Haha, I would have but couldn't figure out how to from my tablet (stupid baconreader) r/e-cig is the link. Hope that formats correctly.

Try Reddit News. It is much much better!

[–]QuantumStorm 0 points1 point ago

I will have to take it for a spin, I assume it's on Android?

[–]Kelsig 1 point2 points ago

Yep ^-^

[–]QuantumStorm 0 points1 point ago

Upvotes for you!

[–]tlennon 0 points1 point ago

Amen to that. In 2 weeks it'll be a year since I've had tobacco. I switched to ecigs last November. Keep in mind my intention was not quitting. I enjoy smoking and need that cig between my fingers and all that other stuff everyone knows. No tar, carcinogens, stink, and tons of money saved. I went from spending $80-$100 a month on smokes to about $7 a month using my ecig.

[–]dmoore777 1 point2 points ago

Hey! I'm on day 3. Shit gets a little bit easier. Less of a pull since I don't want to start the count over again :) I've saved $8 too!

[–]pasmeme 0 points1 point ago

Every time you have an urge to smoke just force yourself to hack and cough and then you'll remember why you quit.

[–]Yummilyspam 0 points1 point ago

I quit in March, I aren't going to lie and say it was the easiest thing I've ever done but I feel so smug about it and give my smoking self the finger quite regularly.

Well done so far, I'll also warn you about week 12, it's a bit weird because cravings can all of a sudden come back but it only lasts a week or two and is no worse than what you're feeling right now.

[–]slayla 0 points1 point ago

I quit in February and I can't say I had that week 12 craving week... it was smooth sailing after the first month or so, and I only got cravings for awhile after that when someone around me was smoking.

I give my smoking self the finger any time I'm walking behind someone who's smoking and I realize how shitty it is for a non-smoker to be subjected to that. It's really pretty gross.

[–]iama_XXL 0 points1 point ago

Upvoted for quitting.

[–]SkeezySevens 0 points1 point ago

Man I'm with you, today is also my day #1. Stay strong, and here's a protip: If you feel like you want a cigarette, go look up a ton of facts about why smoking is bad for you. The guilt will relieve some of your stress about wanting a cigarette. Good Luck!

[–]MissBully 0 points1 point ago

Congrats on quitting! It took me three attempts, but I'm currently 10 months cig-free. It feels great. I used the patch for the first attempt (I got 2ish months), a hypnotist for the second (which lasted a day or two), and used Chantix for the third (and final) attempt. Chantix had horrible side effects, but I endured it for 2 months and now I have absolutely no interest in smoking.

[–]CrowingNevermore 8 points9 points ago

Every person in my immediate family smokes (all six of us), and I quit a few days ago. My advice is to throw away the cigarettes, (break them first so you don't get tempted), get nicotine lozenges (have them prescribed if you have insurance - they're a LOT cheaper then). The oral fixation is somewhat satiated by the lozenges in combination with the nicotine. It works well. I don't crave cigs very much anymore, and it's going well so far.

I went from a pack a day down to 3-4 a day just because I kept getting bronchitis (3 times per year), and just got sick of it, and now I'm off them.

[–]hansjens47 4 points5 points ago

chew gum every time you'd smoke. doesn't have to be nicotine gum.

[–]Finrayy 2 points3 points ago

Someone showed me this article http://whyquit.com/joel/Joel_01_13_gradual_withdrawal.html

a week ago I was cutting back, down from 10 a day to 1 or 2 and finding it tough. I read that, quit completely cold turkey on friday and I'm feeling much better. Aside from the 'giving up cough'.

ahem

[–]netino 0 points1 point ago

This gradual quitting idea has been on my mind for about 2 years, thanks for this article. Seems like cold turkey is the only way, good luck to me.

[–]HelpfulEnt 0 points1 point ago

as a smoker trying to quit, this is just terrifying

[–]Mastrik 0 points1 point ago

Just be careful with the lozenges, when it's time to stop them, the withdrawals kick in but get past that and your AOK.

[–]blazecc 6 points7 points ago

Dat Feel Bro, I know it.

[–]redditat-tat 3 points4 points ago

That man is unbelievably round.

[–]shredo 2 points3 points ago

I'm at one month today.

Chantix = win.

[–]duxup 0 points1 point ago

Anyone got this one without the text?

[–]purralley 4 points5 points ago

Here's the video of it, if it's any help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7_Qko2xrjA

Starting from about 50 seconds

[–]violetxrain 1 point2 points ago

I love it when something is in a foreign language without subtitles and it's still funny.

[–]PyroSexTech 1 point2 points ago

must save gif for future use, and for science!

[–]Jihye 0 points1 point ago

Had to quit for my boyfriend. Know exactly how you feel

[–]jrlembe 4 points5 points ago

I quit for my ex, and when things got tough, I went right back. Six months later I quit for myself and I have been three years tobacco free. Be careful. Its a slippery road.

[–]jacobbrady 1 point2 points ago

You're Korean aren't you?

[–]Jihye 0 points1 point ago

Yes, I'm assuming you got that from my username and the fact that I smoke?

[–]jacobbrady 1 point2 points ago

I lived in Korea, married to a Korean and have known a lot of Jihye's.

[–]RobotFace 0 points1 point ago

Good luck man, it's my 3rd attempt and I just realized from reading this that when added up it has been 72 days since my last cigarette. I still occasionally want to smoke, but it's a want now not a craving.

[–]pasmeme 1 point2 points ago

The nicotine is out of your system, your brain is all pissed because it got used to it. Tell your brain to obey. show that mother fucker who's boss.

[–]Lore86 0 points1 point ago

When I reach for my empty cigarettes pack, than remember I've been too lazy to buy a new one

[–]protomd -1 points0 points ago

This gif always makes me happy

[–]thalidomide_child 0 points1 point ago

Even if you have already quit you might want to read the Allen Carr book. I've never had one instance like that GIF. Smoked for 8 years and quit this August.

Edit: the name of the book is "The Easyway to Quit Smoking" no bullshit.

[–]pasmeme 0 points1 point ago

I've "quit". Meaning I bum a cig a couple times a week out of boredom but never buy packs or smoke regularly. However, the more I run, the less I even want my time killing smokes between classes. It's just such an oral fixation.

[–]cheesiestcheese 0 points1 point ago

He should be eating bags and bags of flaming hot cheetos. No? Guess I'm the only one that thinks they're the cure for nocotine addiction.

[–]Also_bender 1 point2 points ago

Is that guy wearing a pillow under his shirt, or is his fat just naturally balloon-like?

[–]healcannon 0 points1 point ago

Dr. Robotnik

[–]TheMeddleWall 1 point2 points ago

it gets better, I'm a little over a month in and the amount of cravings I have now have shrunk to once a day/once every two days or so. /r/stopsmoking helped out, having a badge with the number of days you've quit is motivational to keep going.

[–]rutterkin -1 points0 points ago

I find the text highly unnecessary.

[–]strobexp 0 points1 point ago

I'm in the process of quitting cigarettes, but somehow always end up at the gas station getting cigarettes. weird process but i'm determined.

[–]ChewbaccasDefense 0 points1 point ago

Quit about a year ago. I felt like the OP's gif whenever I was about to go on break at work. I just started chewing gum and picked up a racquetball to bounce around with while going for a walk. No more cravings.

[–]SubterraneanSanity 0 points1 point ago

ugh, don't you know that every time you remind a smoker that cigarettes exists it forces us to go have one immediately...now I have to put pants on and go outside.

[–]ElderBowlsV 1 point2 points ago

aint it the truth

[–]Marleyhobbes -1 points0 points ago

I hear that! Quit 3 months ago, Saturday, for the third time in eleven years. What helped me significantly this time around: nicotine patches, refraining from social smoking (seriously. It's never going to work out for us addicts. No social smoking!), and chewing on tea tree oil toothpicks. Also, find something to make. I spent my first three days wrapping shit in suede string. Weird, but satisfying.

[–]Mr_Salvati 0 points1 point ago

When I reach for my Reddit, then remember Reddit quit working.

[–]alcianblue 0 points1 point ago

just remembered i quit smoking, now i want a cigarette, thank you very much

[–]juandell 1 point2 points ago

My dad told me to "never be a quitter."

[–]sydneygamer -2 points-1 points ago

Cancer and shit.

[–]aggie1391 0 points1 point ago

Its been a week since my last one. I know that feel.
