My policy: if the game can be replaced, then drinks are allowed on the table. If the game is difficult to replace due to rarity or it is cost prohibitive, I state up front that no drinks can be on the table and explain why. I've never had a problem with this, but I have had two games get beer spilled on them.

I understand (and appreciate) the Mods work of keeping this sub 'clean', and I can see how the GIF in my post can be considered "borderline meme-ish". I'm sorry if several people felt the need to report it, too.

I've just recently got a few Dixit Odissey cards screwed up because a friend spilled a whole glass of Coke on them. This is not the first time something like this happened to me, unfortunately.

When I saw this gif, it occurred to me that I could use it to bring this subject to /r/boardgames in a well-humored way. It seemes to have worked, since I got a few interesting comments on it during the short period the post lasted: example1, example2, example3, example4, example5.

If the post inspired the community to comment about how they identify with the problem, how they deal with it, how they avoid or correct this issue and so on, why shouldn't the post be kept alive? Was it so wrong to deal with a pertinent subject in a humorous way? :(

It was generating discussion, I agree with that.

But as someone who's watched trend posts happened in this subreddit, if I had allowed this to stay through, then more meme-ish posts will start appearing.

Also not quite sure it's only borderline meme. It's a viral meme as of this morning, /r/wheredidthesodago.

On reddit I feel like I'm the only one with capable, level-handed friends.

I've been playing board games often multiple times per week, for hours on end each time, for over 10 years and I've NEVER ruined a game by drinks being spilled and everyone ALWAYS has a drink - beer, water, liquor, coke, whatever.

Not to say they NEVER spill anything. We've had the very occasional beer/coke topple but it's always caught within seconds so only a few drops ever make it out of the vessel. Anything that gets wet is dried immediately and you can't tell it was ever wet in the first place. Most cards have a plastic-like coating that offers decent spill protection when you limit exposure anyway.
