That vote total is far too low to be real; it is clearly just a graphics test.

[–]looknottotheskyoraclebroadcasting.com 27 points28 points ago

I thought 80 million seemed kinda high, it's not like voting for the next American Idol or anything important like that.

[–]Rowlansm 2 points3 points ago

Doing the math using the numbers on it doesn't come out close either. %43 of 80 million would be about 34.4 million, not 40.2 million, and %40 is about 32 million, not 34.1 million.

Just fyi; every single main stream media outlet has a story written for every possible outcome before the election even happens.

They do this so when the info is then known, they can be the first to share the information.

[–]I_may_be_crazy 7 points8 points ago

Complete with vote tally?

[–]bigglesxyz 8 points9 points ago

I wouldn't be surprised if these were just projected numbers, or one of a variety of mistakes.

Of course, it could be the proof that none of us here really need that the system is completely rigged.

[–]THEmasterENT 3 points4 points ago

Try looking into the electoral college. What the news outlets post as the popularity vote means nothing. The electoral college/delegates are the ones that the decide the vote. But who decides which one of them is selected for your district?

"Those who vote decide nothing. Those who count the vote decide everything.” - Josef Stalin

the proof that none of us here really need

Truer words were never writ.

[–]YankeeBravo 0 points1 point ago

No, not complete with vote tally.

Usually the way it works for election night stories is there a couple of short blurbs of "___comes out on top" ready to plug in numbers and go online when the totals come in.

Then you've got a reporter assigned to the Democratic "watch party" and one assigned to the Republican group who have what's referred to as "A" matter (generally a rough draft of a story that can be prepared in advance from information available then) ready to be fleshed out with numbers, reaction quotes, maybe a little narrative color to set the scene, etc..

The difference is that A-matter isn't in the system, so you'd never see a "___wins" story go live on a paper's website ahead of the election.

[–]Rowlansm 0 points1 point ago

That doesn't add up no matter how you look at it?

[–]pweet -2 points-1 points ago

What's with the media's pre-occupation to be first to report a story? Who the hell remembers (or cares) 2 days later who was first?

People here need to read this.

The 2012 presidential election is still more than two weeks away, but on Friday a CBS News affiliate in Arizona called the race for President Barack Obama.

For 17 seconds, Phoenix, Arizona CBS News affiliate KPHO ran a lower third graphic that showed that Obama had won the Nov. 6 election over Gov. Mitt Romney with 99% of the precincts reporting. The lower third graphic appeared around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 19, during an episode of “The People’s Court.”

The CBS News graphic showed Obama winning the election with 43 percent of the vote nationwide to Romney’s 40 percent -– or 40,237,966 votes to 38,116,216. It is unclear who garnered the other 17 percent in the fictional election results.

KPHO’s general manager did not return The Daily Caller’s request for comment by time of publication.

UPDATE 12:10 p.m.:

Michele Wallace of KPHO told TheDC that this was the result of a mistake made with a test graphic:

“On Friday October 19th during a test of KPHO- CBS 5’s election returns software we inadvertently aired a test graphic for about 15 seconds in an episode of Peoples Court,” Wallace said. “The mistake was caught quickly and taken off the screen. With the election about 2 weeks away, the TV station routinely tests its equipment to ensure our viewers have the very latest’s results on election night. We regret the error and apologize to any viewer who was confused by the mistake.”

[–]Fateslastwarrior 4 points5 points ago

My first thought was honestly "black colonel sanders?"

[–]Polite_WerewolfHowling quietly 43 points44 points ago

Most likely just a graphics test.

[–]your_reflection 1 point2 points ago

[–]Enkmarl -2 points-1 points ago

Sorry but no, you don't do "graphics test" (you mean chiron) during live television

[–]ruizscar -4 points-3 points ago

So they do graphics tests for other announcements too?

Like, "First ground targets hit: Natanz in flames" ?

Why would you need a live transmission to test graphics?

[–]SutekhRisingGovernment Shill 2 points3 points ago

You dont. The idea of a "graphics test" is utter bullshit.

[–]your_reflection 1 point2 points ago

[–]fermented-fetus 0 points1 point ago

Yes the CBS news affiliate in Phoenix was made aware of the rigged election weeks in advance. /s

[–]Maxwyfe 1 point2 points ago

And why would it need to have such precise percentages? Couldn't you just as easily run a test with the number value being 0% for each candidate?

[–]jefewyatt 9 points10 points ago

Almost certainly just a goof. The numbers shown have no significance. If you look at voter turnout in past presidential elections you can see that a drop to 78 million would make no sense.

[–]your_reflection 0 points1 point ago

[–]vbullinger 8 points9 points ago

Wow, Gary Johnson got 17%!

[–]ingy2012 1 point2 points ago

Right?! 10% would have even surprised me.

[–]che_singh 1 point2 points ago

First you think they're such an amazing and fine tuned machine that they rig the election months and year in advance, coordinating all the media and everyone involved. Then you accuse them of being so retarded that they'd slip up and show their cards 2 weeks in advance on live TV

cmon

[–]jahvidbest -1 points0 points ago

Yeah, but if they were going to slip up. This is how they would do it. Not something big.

[–]Slipgrid 3 points4 points ago

Get those Romney voters worked up.

[–]ElDubardo 6 points7 points ago

seriously??? People think that is conspiracy???

[–]your_reflection 1 point2 points ago

These people think crop circles are made by aliens.

[–]lazybrownfox 1 point2 points ago

now they will have to change it.

[–]TinyLoad 3 points4 points ago

I wouldn't let that guy's moustache back on TV either.

[–]hedbangr 10 points11 points ago

Yeah, I don't want prefab graphics, I want them drawing and coding that shit as the numbers roll in. How do you know it's the right font if it isn't election night?

[–]jahvidbest 2 points3 points ago

Remember when someone tweeted they saw "Osama Bin Laden killed" being televised on Fox days before it had been reported?

Do you really think half of them woke up? It seems like a lot less to me. Also, there are people who voted Republican last election and woke up, so you have to consider them too.

damnit you caught me, want a fiddle?

[–]oopsifarted 7 points8 points ago

Lol votes don't matter. Silly.

[–]Aswas -1 points0 points ago

Like me? I voted for Gary. I don't remember there evr being so many candidates before. It's like they flooded the ballot this year with alternative choices to draq off Obama people

[–]jakenichols 0 points1 point ago

I swear this happened in Chicago before the Mayoral elections too, the tv news station aired who would win and the totals and it was called a "test"

[–]WTCMolybdenum4753 0 points1 point ago

[–]prozac-smile☼ ☼ -1 points0 points ago

looks about right.

[–]white_n_mild 0 points1 point ago

You should have time stamped it.

[–]anecdotalWatchesWatchmen -2 points-1 points ago

This could easily be fake.

[–]chrisradcliffe 0 points1 point ago

It's very hard for me to take anything seriously from someone watching the "Peoples Court" in the morning.

[–]rbonson23 -3 points-2 points ago

Is that Christopher Walken behind the guy in the red shirt?

[–]Coda30תחי המהפכה 0 points1 point ago

Well, at least we won't have President Romney.

[–]Rowlansm -2 points-1 points ago

Apparently, no one here did the math and saw that the numbers don't add up to %100, and that even the totals don't reflect how much % of the vote was received.
