This particular submission is now in 3rd place.

[–]ElectricSeal 9 points10 points ago

Now it's in first.

[–]RambleOff 8 points9 points ago

Just wanted to point out, since I don't see this referred to on that list: this image is from an old poster/magazine ad for one of the Halloween movies. WAIT no, I think it was some movie called Candyman. Something like that.

I remember seeing this PRECISE image in a magazine ad when I was a kid for something like that, Halloween or the Candyman, and I remember trying so hard to figure out what this image had to do with the film. I'll do some more googling real quick.

edit: yeah it was Candyman. Apparently it has something to do with bees. NOT THE BEES

[–]buttcrackcrackling 0 points1 point ago

Downvote it is then!

[–]loveNpeaceEric -1 points0 points ago

To the top you go.

[–]Sharkhug -5 points-4 points ago

Not a shop, search further down the thread. It's a bug that drinks tears? Even more /r/wtf worthy. The wasp would be jealous of this dude. It feeds on your SADNESS.

[–]Gutterblade 191 points192 points ago

"P-Photoshop? Xmas_one gasped, desperatly hoping, clinging to that last line of hope that stood between him and ever being able to go outside again during the summer"

[–]no-game 28 points29 points ago

Why is the whole thing in quotations?

[–]TheBunnyTheBear 73 points74 points ago

It's the opening line in Gutterblade's newest novel.

[–]no-game 16 points17 points ago

If that were the case, it should start out as "'P-Photoshop?' ..." etc.

[–]toxicFork 48 points49 points ago

He's not that good of a writer.

[–]Fealiks 14 points15 points ago

I was reading a book last night where the character accidentally said "said Vimes" at the end of his sentence because of a rogue quotation mark.

Page 444 of the book Night Watch by Terry Pratchett, if anyone's interested, said Fealiks.

[–]no-game 6 points7 points ago

I will definitely buy that book and then turn to page 444.

[–]Fealiks 5 points6 points ago

You should buy it anyway, it's a good book.

[–]Aldrahill 1 point2 points ago

Indeed, one my favourites in the Discworld series. So much so that when I read "Vimes" I immediately knew.

[–]mahuzair 2 points3 points ago

HA just checked it. Brilliant.

[–]masterboat 2 points3 points ago

You know, I think I remember noticing a rogue quotation mark when I read that book.

[–]MeLobsta 1 point2 points ago

I literally downloaded that entire pdf JUST to turn to that page.

[–]calicohoax 0 points1 point ago

prob bc pratchett was high as a kite with his editor. or, maybe he did it to fuck with you.

[–]Patsby 0 points1 point ago

exactly how it didnt happen lol

[–]AstroChuppa 14 points15 points ago

Definitely - The lighting on the eye, and on the bee are different. Also the contrast and black levels between the bee and the eye are different.

[–]Fagel88 14 points15 points ago

Still a fantastic shop.

[–]mackinoncougars 7 points8 points ago

Shut up, Fagel...take off that vest, you look like Aladdin.

[–]redromina -1 points0 points ago

Also who would actually stand still while a bee is stinging their eye and the other person decides to get a camera to take a picture?

[–]missachlys 1 point2 points ago

There was a UC Davis student a little while ago who volunteered to get stung multiple times in order to get really precise photos of a bee sting.

I mean, an eye is a little extreme, but similar situations have happened.

[–]Nut_Stack 16 points17 points ago

I can tell by the pixels.

[–]vacerious 14 points15 points ago

Have you seen a lot of shops in your time?

[–]Dougleton 10 points11 points ago

Why would somebody do this to me?

Why would somebody take both of my phobias, bees and shit touching my eye, and use photoshop to amalgamate them into this...this monstrosity that has no right existing in the first place?

Whoever is responsible for this, they are a contemptuous and vile human being.

[–]Warmlettuce 2 points3 points ago

We both have the same phobias, thank you.

[–]Clockian 0 points1 point ago

I think everyone has this phobia. Bees are essentially small flying scorpions and have no business being anywhere near your eyes.

[–]jmess301 6 points7 points ago

Definitely 'shopped.

[–]knightofcookies 1 point2 points ago

I think so. If you look at the reflection on the eye it doesn't show the bottom of the bee, but rather just that same image upside down.

[–]rednecktash -1 points0 points ago

no, it's a contact lens

[–]porkestalina 0 points1 point ago

I hope it is Photoshop. ...

[–]utterdamnnonsense 1 point2 points ago

isn't this from one of those worth1000 photo contests?

[–]willhall321 0 points1 point ago

I don't always get stung by bees... But when I do

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]MY_LITTLE_ORIFICE 3 points4 points ago

You're overanalyzing it. Look at the edges of the bee. It's clearly photoshopped.

The edge of the stinger into the eye is easily done with the most rudimentary photoshop tools. Yes, a lot of Photoshoppers would know how to do that. You could do it with the Smudge tool if you wanted to go really basic. Surface reflections is either complete luck or done intentionally, also being easy to recreate in Photoshop. The reflection of the bee inside the eye? Please, that's a fucking cakewalk.

Furthermore, if this was real, the eye would have blinked (and a hand would've already been there) way before the stinger could penetrate that deeply. Even as the bee would have approached, natural instincts would make it impossible NOT to blink. Also notice how there's no motion of the wings, which lay in their natural resting position. A be rarely "sits down" to sting.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]MY_LITTLE_ORIFICE 1 point2 points ago

Oh. What a tremendous waste of everyone's time.

Coupled with that source story, this should go on r/mildlyinteresting instead.

[–]Murloclover 0 points1 point ago

this needs moved to the top if it is accurate!

[–]TheAlleyTramp 5 points6 points ago

Its not.

[–]diemockingbirddie 0 points1 point ago

That shine on the bee's eye could have come from the original shot of the bee.

[–]no-game 0 points1 point ago

Nothing worse than a person who is wrong and pretends to be an expert.

[–]Vort_ 19 points20 points ago

Thanks, I didn't like opening my eyes anyway.

[–]BkTrack[S] 3 points4 points ago

I'm sorry, I saw it - and didn't want to be the only person to see it :'(

[–]Hart_Les 7 points8 points ago

So you decided to make us all miserable.

[–]Sigma34561 -4 points-3 points ago

So he decided to repost some lame photoshop shit.

[–]Cytochrome_C 0 points1 point ago

Cool story bro. Shame you're wrong.

http://www.bioone.org/doi/abs/10.2317/JKES0811.17.1

[–]whitedog12 0 points1 point ago

Oh don't worry I've seen it MANY times before...

[–]userbelowisamonster 38 points39 points ago

This is actually not stinging him, but drinking his tears. I forget the name of this insect, but it feeds off of tear duct secretions from various animals. The person in this photo did it as a demonstration for science or something.

Fun fact.

EDIT: This pic is apparently shopped for an ad to a movie as stated above in some other comments. But there are still bees that drink tears.

[–]Journalisto 25 points26 points ago

It would be even "funner" if you had a source for that and a name of the actual insect. I was hoping to be like "yeah, right," but then I searched it and found you're right.

It's a thing

[–]NewbCactus 12 points13 points ago

Jesus Christ how terrifying.

[–]userbelowisamonster 3 points4 points ago

I appreciate you looking that up for us. I'm on my iPod and its very time consuming to go to that length. I was just going to edit when I was around my computer.

[–]BkTrack[S] 60 points61 points ago

Best thing to tell children EVER. "If you don't stop crying, Bees will come and drink your tears" watch them stfu right that second.

What about the child?

[–]ndogw 1 point2 points ago

Phhff, if they cry like a bitch. They have it coming.

[–]no-game 3 points4 points ago

Except that it's obviously a bee.

[–]Wardbun 1 point2 points ago

Dude, how do you forget its name? It is the second letter of the alphabet.

[–]userbelowisamonster 1 point2 points ago

I wanted to be more specific.

[–]Wardbun 0 points1 point ago

That is a good reason.

[–]SailorRenee42 0 points1 point ago

Your tear ducts are on your lower lid. That bee isn't drinking anything from an eyeball.

[–]tty2 0 points1 point ago

No, it's actually photoshopped. The scale is off and you can tell from the illumination of the bee body.

[–]tty2 2 points3 points ago

Sure. But this specific image is photo shopped. Look closely around the edges of the bee. Look at the reflection. It's shopped.

[–]Cytochrome_C -2 points-1 points ago

I misunderstood your first "No" to be refuting the bees drinking tears.

[–]rarkai 4 points5 points ago

This should be in the list of pictures reddit shows you quickly when you sign up. "We've all seen this, here you go, now you are caught up".

[–]BeatKeaper 1 point2 points ago

"r/aww is over there, and don't BROWSE r/spacedicks, just spend five minutes there."

[–]tokenmaster 9 points10 points ago

Why the fuck would anyone allow this to happen

[–]rarkai 17 points18 points ago

Photoshop happens all the time. It cannot be stopped.

[–]CommonFound 6 points7 points ago

Hi, I'm Sarah Mclachlan. Every day countless images are changed from their original form through the act of photoshopping. With your small donation we can help make sure that these images make it to the public eye unscathed.

[–]Sigma34561 2 points3 points ago

Actually there appears to be a source in the comments above.

[–]BkTrack[S] -5 points-4 points ago

I'm not sure how someone would let it happen, I basically have a panic attack if an eyelash goes stray - If this fucker landed in my eye i'd be going batshit crazy.

[–]bonedoc59 2 points3 points ago

I'm the same way. Eye drops essentially require Valium. I'm having a mild panic attack after having seen his. Dear lord I hope this is photoshopped.

[–]UncleSneakyFingers 1 point2 points ago

I can't put eye drops in my eye without freaking out. How do you let a bee sting your eye? Why do you let a bee sting your eye?

[–]MYDOGSTELLA 2 points3 points ago

...so many tears.....I have so many tears

[–]rawr_face 3 points4 points ago

And I thought dry contacts hurt !

[–]blindliberal 3 points4 points ago

that must be one small ass bee

[–]ForeverAbone-r 2 points3 points ago

Nooopppee...blinks 50 times...fuck that shit

[–]McNicken 0 points1 point ago

I'm too frightened to blink, lest it becomes defensive...

[–]TobyRex 2 points3 points ago

Medically speaking... What happens afterwards..?

[–]kokonkokon99 2 points3 points ago

Very cringe-worthy.

[–]acheronavernus 2 points3 points ago

I was stung by a bee in the sclera, the white part of my eye, when I was a child. It was among the most painful things I've ever experienced in my life, on par with passing a kidney stone.

[–]ClayCRUSH 2 points3 points ago

[–]sniff3000 3 points4 points ago

how many times is this shit gonna get reposted!?

[–]JustLetMeComment 2 points3 points ago

NOPE.

[–]The40thDoctor 1 point2 points ago

When I was young I was stung repeatedly on the eye by a yellow jacket. It swelled up but I don't remember pain

[–]Snakescale 0 points1 point ago

What would happen if you blinked

[–]RolloTheApollo 1 point2 points ago

I was stung in they eye by a hornet when i was a kid. Well... it was the lower eyelid but it's pretty much the same. It swelled shut and made my entire face warm.

[–]Haku_Sama 0 points1 point ago

My asshole clenched.

[–]mother_of_gusta -1 points0 points ago

[–]Clear_Watt 1 point2 points ago

[–]garrettmikesmith 1 point2 points ago

I've seen this so many times it doesn't even gross me out anymore.

[–]yppers 1 point2 points ago

my worst nightmare

[–]mark331 1 point2 points ago

I can't really describe why I know it's wrong, but I just tell. It kind of bugs me

[–]relbaneb 0 points1 point ago

because the reflection where the stinger is touching his eye doesn't warp right

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

That is a very small bee.

[–]ClownWithCrown 1 point2 points ago

My teacher actually lost an eye like that. Bee got behind his Glasses. Stings his Eyes. He has to get Surgery. They mess Up Surgery. Here you go.

[–]FroggiJoy87 0 points1 point ago

who poses for that picture?!

[–]kiddo_ 0 points1 point ago

This really does not phase me at all for some reason. If it were a wasp, however....

[–]Xenri -1 points0 points ago

Eyes don't have nerves. The irritation and pain you get usually comes from irritation of the eyelids. I learned this when my girlfriend thought it would be funny to lick my eyeball in some kind of weird chicken game. I let her do it, and felt nothing. Looked into the whole spiel after that. So this, if you were a brave mother fucker, wouldn't really cause any physical discomfort. You would be, however, a crazy motherfucker to let a bee that close to your eye.

[–]Throwawaytteacher80 1 point2 points ago

This is interesting because it's the opposite of true. Your cornea is literally more densely innervated part of your body with the highest number of pain receptors. This is the most confusing misconception as a speck of sand or an eyelash that wouldn't even register on any other part of your body feels like a boulder when it's in your eye.

[–]I_DONT_REDDIT 0 points1 point ago

BE TOO SMALL, EYE TOO BIG< NONE OF THIS MAKES ANY SENSE!

[–]ftrhmn 0 points1 point ago

Worst photoshop ever.

[–]schqnsense 0 points1 point ago

Ouchtoshopped

[–]TardisMechanic 0 points1 point ago

"That is a pretty mediocre Photoshop" said half of Reddit who doesn't know how to use Photoshop.

[–]youngavlol -1 points0 points ago

Your eye itself actually has no feeling.

[–]jmitoma 1 point2 points ago

Couldn't be possible. The human eye would blink instantly.

[–]mcDangerface 0 points1 point ago

While I don't believe the picture is real, I don't think that this is the reason. As someone who wears contacts, I know that the blink reflex when you get something in your eye is something you can overcome with training. Also, who knows, the photographed person could be dead.

[–]jmitoma 0 points1 point ago

Haha, good call. I retract my previous statement.

[–]LogicWizard 1 point2 points ago

Ouch...right in the stock photography.

[–]relbaneb 0 points1 point ago

if it was real it woulda hurt

[–]bzeurunkl 0 points1 point ago

Photoshop. Bees are quite a bit larger than that.

[–]brutalsun 0 points1 point ago

EDIT: insert foot in mouth. Took a look at photo again... yeah.

[–]bzeurunkl 0 points1 point ago

looked again. Bees are still quite to much larger for that to be real.

[–]brutalsun 0 points1 point ago

No no, I sent a comment about that being an actual sized honey bee then I looked again, warranting the edit. Sorry for the confusion.

[–]bzeurunkl 0 points1 point ago

I mean, seriously... how many bees have you seen that are smaller than your eyelashes?

[–]brutalsun 0 points1 point ago

sweat bees. 1/4 inch in size.

[–]bzeurunkl 0 points1 point ago

Dammit! Just when I was winning you come along with this! back to square one!

[–]cameron_2o1 0 points1 point ago

shopped

[–]FlyingCoder 0 points1 point ago

Is this a thing now?

[–]BeatKeaper 1 point2 points ago

"Hold still, Jeffrey. I really need to take this shot."

[–]Kroz_McD 0 points1 point ago

Saw this years ago. It's Photoshopped. Those insects aren't that small, one could not fit on your eye.

Also, the person would have blinked automatically as a protective reaction which cannot be controlled.

[–]rosylux 0 points1 point ago

[–]Tanks4me 0 points1 point ago

Now what sadistic photographer just sits there and zoom in to get that nice perfect hyper zoomed in shot when a bee is stinging someone in their freaking eye????? I'm obsessed with photography, but this is just inhuman.

[–]Kebabs 0 points1 point ago

Thats a very small bee

[–]Paragalor 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of the Dead Space 2 Eye Poke Machine.

[–]dennismgordon 0 points1 point ago

ive seen a few shops in my day

[–]Planex2012 0 points1 point ago

Sit still.....gonna get my camera phone.

[–]Kallistam1 0 points1 point ago

Even though it's photoshopped, how and why would anyone let that happen????

[–]Sleepwalker18 1 point2 points ago

THE ONLY PICTURE I HAVE EVER SEEN THAT HAS MADE ME SCREAM.

[–]Killzonintaing 0 points1 point ago

Thats why, *puts on shades" i wear shades to my bed everynight.

[–]TheWhistler1967 0 points1 point ago

Eyes are very tough, they are a bitch to cut open with a knife so I doubt a sting would do much.

Source: I am a crazy person.

[–]brutalsun 0 points1 point ago

Aeon Flux, you're doing it... better?

[–]Phurion 0 points1 point ago

my grandfather got stung by a bee in his eye a long time ago, and it left his vision really fucked up, the eye that got stung lost vision alot earlier =/

[–]cobson 0 points1 point ago

I got stung in the eye when I was young and went into anaphylactic shock and developed anaphylaxis. But I still manage to be chill as fuck when bees be flying up in my grill.

[–]Twinkied1848 -1 points0 points ago

Actually friend, you have 0 nerve endings on the anterior side of your eye, and none at all on the Cornea so it wouldn't hurt a bit!

[–]bbbbbfreestyle 0 points1 point ago

Candy mannnnnn

[–]Slothynator 0 points1 point ago

"While I have this bee in my eye, I better find my camera and take a picture of it."

[–]GroggStyle 0 points1 point ago

As someone with apiphobia, this scares me to no end.

[–]JonSnowTheBastid 0 points1 point ago

Why??

[–]thek2kid 0 points1 point ago

I am so smart for figuring out that this was photo-shopped! I almost believed that a bee could stand on an eyeball with no irritation to the eyeball owner.

[–]olympianfap 0 points1 point ago

not real

as in Spurious. Not genuine. And, it's worth . . . fu**all.

[–]thanksfine 0 points1 point ago

So fake it hurts.

[–]kyle105x 0 points1 point ago

lol Photoshop or not, that hornet is a genius, striking where it'd truly hurt.

[–]macbad2012 0 points1 point ago

Happened to me when I was 5 and yes, hurts like hell.

[–]Youcanbeasuperhero2 0 points1 point ago

I just came here to see how many people were gonna call this pic out

[–]Turtle_The_Cat 1 point2 points ago

That actually wouldn't hurt at all. Scary/irritating as hell, yes, but you have no nerves in the clear surface of your eye. Only if it stung the sclera (white part) would you feel it.

[–]Throwawaytteacher80 10 points11 points ago

Um, the cornea, which covers the entire surface of your eye, is one of the most densely innervated areas of your entire body. That's why an eyelash feels like a toothpick when it's stuck on your eye. If you ever have a corneal abrasion or ulcer, you'll know exactly how much pain the surface of your eye can feel.

[–]Turtle_The_Cat 0 points1 point ago

TIL. I assumed that because you can stick a needle through your pupil, and as long as you don't move your eye it doesn't hurt. Oh well.

[–]diemockingbirddie 0 points1 point ago

No... you... can not.

[–]Coldbread 1 point2 points ago

yet it would still inject it's venom.

[–]Turtle_The_Cat -1 points0 points ago

Yes, but into a non-vascular tissue. If it went straight into your pupil, I'm not sure it would even do anything.

[–]diemockingbirddie 0 points1 point ago

You need to poke whoever told you that in the eye. Have you ever been poked in the eye? It hurts. Go ahead, try it if you think what you're saying is true. Just take your finger and jam it in your eye.

[–]ophello -3 points-2 points ago

Fucking fake.

[–]JeffersonClarkson 0 points1 point ago

What would be worse, that or a paper cut?

[–]DrBahzinga 0 points1 point ago

this has been reposted so many times

[–]i_am_indeed_human -3 points-2 points ago

oh god, do not want.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Throwawaytteacher80 4 points5 points ago

I'm curious where this misconception is coming from, as a few people have posted this. The cornea quite literally has the highest concentration of nerve endings in the entire body. The pain receptors in your cornea have been estimated to be 40 times denser than those in dental pulp. So that ridiculous pain you feel if you ever have exposed nerves in your teeth is nothing compared to a scratch or ulcer on the surface of your cornea.

[–]MAVP 0 points1 point ago

Ok, thanks, but you've gone and made it worse.

[–]Throwawaytteacher80 0 points1 point ago

Point taken.
