This kid has clearly been playing too much foosball.

[–]bheklilr 38 points39 points ago

I can tell you from experience that foosball strategies are much different. And I'm slightly ashamed for knowing that, but it's what happens when my workplace has a foosball table and gives me 2 months to write 50 lines of code, even after I ask for more work.

[–]chocolate_ 27 points28 points ago

At least the code will be perfect!

[–]dalgeek 52 points53 points ago

It'll still have a least one bug, trust me.

[–]regniwekim 24 points25 points ago

built in job security my friend

[–]RocksAndSoup 1 point2 points ago

Procrastination is a bitch.

[–]midnightbaconer21 0 points1 point ago

Amen, brother. Amen.

[–]darkscout 0 points1 point ago

Learn to program for http://www.ioccc.org/. Then those 50 lines of code will be unreadable as perl and do who knows what.

[–]chocolate_ 1 point2 points ago

In what way is Perl unreadable? I was given thousands of lines of Perl to modify for a research project. The syntax and functionality are straightforward, even though it's not one of my native languages.

[–]darkscout 3 points4 points ago

Internet joke. Perl obfuscates itself.

[–]quakank 1 point2 points ago

Sounds like my job

[–]djm1st 1 point2 points ago

I always call "no spins" in foosball... It honestly takes away from the game because then you just have people doing "power spins" where all they do is just sit there and spin the players hoping to get one in.

[–]capgrass 4 points5 points ago

In tournament's any action that sends a bar spinning more than 359 degrees is illegal.

On a side note: if someone needs to spin, they're not beating anyone with any level of competency at foosball. If you're spinning, I'm going to dominate you no problem.

[–]ZachDawg832 0 points1 point ago

Having grown up with a Foosball table, I can confirm this. Spinning is laughed at by anyone who is competent. You may get one or two points in this way due to the unpredictable nature of spinning, but ultimately you are going to embarrass yourself.

[–]Rephaite 0 points1 point ago

You can actually break the men with spins, if both players do it and they trap the ball at a particular angle.

[–]Shinpachi 1 point2 points ago

In my experience, it's a lot easier to both break men, and score goals, by slamming the ball between a player and the side board, shooting it out like a fucking rocket.

[–]Mr_Quagmire 1 point2 points ago

No son of mine is gonna play any foosball.

[–]newschannel3 109 points110 points ago

This looks pretty unnecessary

[–]BOBDOBBS74 17 points18 points ago

Looks more like showing off to me... Skilled of course, but showing off...

[–]ubomw 16 points17 points ago

And because of that totally awesome.

[–]GuruMeditation 2 points3 points ago

On the contrary, it's combining scoring the goal and celebrating it into one gesture.

[–]WhitestAfrican 5 points6 points ago

But could it also distract the goalie who just all of sudden watches a guy doing a flip so he is unable to stop the ball.

[–]nxlyd 12 points13 points ago

Any goalie worth being a goalie is not going to be paying the slightest attention to him after the kick.

[–]alejo06 14 points15 points ago

That would've just looked silly if he missed.

[–]callmeWia 54 points55 points ago

It does look pretty silly if you miss one in a big game.

[–]Keith11 3 points4 points ago

Christ do I hate Sergio Ramos!!

[–]callmeWia 0 points1 point ago

You are not alone.

[–]callmeWia 0 points1 point ago

I heard they are trying to locate the ball.

[–]Plexicraft 0 points1 point ago

Oh... so this is a thing now. Great...

[–]Dragday 43 points44 points ago

I will just leave it here

[–]JLeron 15 points16 points ago

I've seen this before, I'm still sitting here like WTF? I can't even play with a hackysack :(

[–]isofat -3 points-2 points ago

Can you walk?

[–]Hellothereawesome 5 points6 points ago

The slowmode version sounded like a buncha cows in a cowfield.

[–]Pwoshi 0 points1 point ago

Better than a bunch of cows in a regular field. That would be a catastrophe.

[–]bathroomstalin 2 points3 points ago

Just give me the damn Sepak Takraw ball!!

[–]zombeymonkie 1 point2 points ago

This is insane. What is this called?

[–]Pegpeg66 2 points3 points ago

I've always known it as net hack, idk if it has a different official name. WARNING: Do not attempt with volleyball net. shit's high.

[–]bsebaz 1 point2 points ago

it's called takara, it's played with a weird kind of mesh ball. I used to play it in gym class for school and the nets where extremely low, like practically on the ground low.

[–]caracarn 12 points13 points ago

Isn't it called Sepak takraw ?

[–]bsebaz 0 points1 point ago

all i know is that's what all my teachers called it.

[–]azuredrake 0 points1 point ago

When translating things from non-romanic/germanic alphabets, there can often be multiple acceptable spellings as long as the core "sound" of the word is preserved. Takraw and Takara sound relatively close to each other - this is probably what caused the difference between the professional spelling and the one reported by the redditor you're replying to. :)

[–]csgoodri 1 point2 points ago

This is undoubtedly the most difficult sport.

[–]r4r4me 10 points11 points ago

If he would have missed he would have been booed for showboating.

[–]astroZEBUS 16 points17 points ago

[–]isofat 1 point2 points ago

What a boring game of dodgeball.

[–]owwhatthe 9 points10 points ago

...and a yellow card.

[–]mackinoncougars 1 point2 points ago

Thousands of people saw him on the internet. worth it.

[–]Ruphio 8 points9 points ago

Amazing how late he flips, Jordan has nothing on this kid's hangtime

[–]csgoodri 0 points1 point ago

Flips are strange, you can't read his momentum, but even as he appears to hang, a lot of it is building.

[–]Wand3rer 33 points34 points ago

I'd have benched the shit if I were coaching his team. You damn well better take a PK seriously.

[–]fourvalleys 11 points12 points ago

I think if I was the coach I'd probably take him out for the inevitable yellow card.

Then again in a youth league he might not get one. Club league or high school and higher is a definite yellow.

[–]Kupie 8 points9 points ago

Why would he get a yellow card for doing a backflip?

[–]cyberslick188 10 points11 points ago

Besides unsportsmanlike, you could also probably make a good enough argument for an unsafe play. He can't see what's behind him, and if the goalie had made the save and given up a rebound he could have kung fu-cked a kid behind him.

[–]nxlyd 4 points5 points ago

Definitely could be unsafe play, considering his cleats are at face-height.

[–]fourvalleys 9 points10 points ago

It's at their discretion, but in my opinion it's needless showboating that takes away from the game.

It's cool for sure, but I mean, you'll get a card automatically for taking your shirt off, so...

[–]PowderedToasty 2 points3 points ago

One man's "takes away from the game" is another man's "makes the game watchable".

[–]fourvalleys 1 point2 points ago

Don't get me wrong, I love goal celebrations. As a fan.

If I'm out on the field? Nahhhh. And this one is almost a pre-emptive celebration. That may be worse!

[–]darkscout 2 points3 points ago

It could also be decided to be a distraction tactic. I've known gymnasts that would do front flip throwins. It usually caught numerous people off guard.

When he did the flip he hadn't made the goal yet, what was he showboating?

Then again we had someone on my team that attempted the barking dog. And it worked.

[–]fourvalleys 0 points1 point ago

The fact that he hadn't made the goal yet makes it worse. That takes away the only possible reason he had for doing one. And that was a bad reason anyway.

[–]darkscout -2 points-1 points ago

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/federation/lotg_en_55753.pdf

Would you like to point out the rule? Just because you don't think something is right doesn't mean it's in the rulebook as illegal.

[–]fourvalleys 1 point2 points ago

I'm not familiar with any team sports where showboating isn't dealt with in a similar manner. Yellow card, penalty flag, technical foul, black flag (still a team sport), penalty box, whatever. Oddly, there isn't much for baseball unless you get ejected... But you're a lot more likely to get ejected there than in most sports.

And in every one of those cases, it's at the discretion of the referee/umpire/judge.

Just because something isn't explicitly stated in a rule book doesn't mean it's not called. And I'm not going to look it up (haha honestly) but I'd be willing to bet there's something there that says penalties are at the discretion of the referee.

[–]darkscout -3 points-2 points ago

I'm not familiar with any team sports where showboating isn't dealt with in a similar manner.

In which case it is spelled out in the rulebook.

Just because something isn't explicitly stated in a rule book doesn't mean it's not called.

What sports do you play? Games live and die by the rulebook. There is a reason they are very very specific. If you look at the rules of soccer there was nothing excessive about the backflip and shouldn't be called. It'd be like chest bumping a teammate. It took <1s. It didn't waste time.

I already wrote a longer reply to someone else: http://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/11udlk/kids_got_game/c6pyqut

[–]fourvalleys 1 point2 points ago

The stuff you quoted even says it's the judgment of the ref! If I was the ref, he's probably getting a card. End of story.

[–]DominicDom -1 points0 points ago

I'd definitely give him a yellow card.I've had to give kids yellow cards all the time for doing flips after a goal. More often when they are already whooping the other team

[–]Ginga 1 point2 points ago

You'd be fun to play under.

[–]DominicDom 3 points4 points ago

Not sure if sarcasm, but after every game I have the players thank me for calling a fair game and a great game. I don't give cards often but when I do they are obviously dangerous plays or showboating as this flip is also dangerous play

[–]darkscout 0 points1 point ago

He didn't do the flip after the goal. What was he celebrating? The fact that he took a kick?

[–]DominicDom 0 points1 point ago

He'd still get a yellow. It's unsportsmanlike conduct. Now it does depend on the ref who is doing the game if they seem it is card worthy or not

[–]darkscout 0 points1 point ago

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/federation/lotg_en_55753.pdf

Care to point it out? The closest rule is

"acts in a manner which shows a lact of respect for the game"

And a backflip is not a:

Verbally distracts an opponent during play or at a restart.

And then hell it doesn't even fit the celebration of a goal for a yellow.

While it is permissible for a player to demonstrate his joy when a goal has been scored, the celebration must not be excessive. Reasonable celebrations are allowed, but the practice of choreographed celebrations is not to be encouraged when it results in excessive time wasting and referees are instructed to intervene in such cases.

A player must be cautioned if:

  • in the opinion of the referee, he makes gestures which are provocative, derisory or inflammatory

  • he climbs on to a perimeter fence to celebrate a goal being scored

  • he removes his shirt or covers his head with his shirt.

He did a single backflip. It was not excessive. It was not provocative, derisory or inflammatory. (Such as motioning towards his crotch after the flip.). He didn't remove his shirt. And he didn't leave the field of play and it most certainly didn't result in excessive time wasting.

[–]DominicDom 2 points3 points ago

this also applies to the kicker

Playing in a dangerous matter is defined as any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player himself)...

This could have easily resulted in an injury for him or a teammate or the other team running in on a deflection and getting clipped by a player flipping through the air. It is a dangerous play for himself and everyone around him. The goal would count, but he would get a yellow in my opinion. Depending on the age and competitive level of play, a verbal warning would be given to younger kids rather than a older aged group. Not to mention that this play could have caused anger and rebuttle from the other team for his showboat of a kick. There are many factors that can be argued here but in the end it depends on the refs interpretation

[–]OTuama -2 points-1 points ago

He's showing the keeper that he's so much better than him that he can do a backflip while scoring. Most keepers would get rather pissed at that. I know I would put him on his ass the next time there was a breakaway.

[–]darkscout -1 points0 points ago

That's a stretch into 'provocative, derisory or inflammatory'.

So now any excessively good player can't play any better? Because that would tick off players. How about a backflip during a throw in? Can players not juggle? Man It'd tick me off if someone could juggle much better than me.

The rulebook is written more directly to limit taunting and real unsportsmanlike conduct. Not a backflip.

I would put him on his ass the next time there was a breakaway.

Yeah, that's the unsportsmanlike conduct.

[–]fourvalleys -2 points-1 points ago

excessive time wasting

Speaking of...

[–]mileylols -4 points-3 points ago

At the end of the gif you can see the ref giving him a yellow

[–]fourvalleys 4 points5 points ago

It looks like he's pointing towards the center of the pitch, indicating a goal.

e: And he would have already needed the card in his hand. It's usually in the shirt pocket, rarely in the shorts pocket. Never in the hand already unless it's a threat.

[–]PowderedToasty 1 point2 points ago

This attitude is why I always hated organized sports, as a kid and an adult. "Do you think this game is a GAME?!?!?!"

[–]nxlyd 4 points5 points ago

There's agreed upon rules to make it a game rather than playtime.

[–]PowderedToasty 2 points3 points ago

One of the rules is "no being silly during penalty kicks"? Seemed to me like a legitimate tactic for confusing the goalie. People, especially grown adult men, take sports a little too seriously.

[–]nxlyd 2 points3 points ago

Seemed to me like a legitimate tactic for confusing the goalie.

That comment alone really confirms what you said about avoiding sports your whole life. If you don't like the sport, don't play it. You don't really have room to accuse anyone of "taking it too seriously" when taking it seriously is exactly what they want to do, it's why they joined the team rather than having a pick-up game at the park.

[–]PowderedToasty -4 points-3 points ago

I'll say it again, you're taking your play time too seriously.

edit: I'm on a bowling league, I don't get upset when people celebrate when they know they've thrown a strike.

[–]OTuama 3 points4 points ago

Yeah... soccer's not exactly bowling...

[–]frogswithwings 1 point2 points ago

The shot goes center of the goal neither high or low, show boating and a bad shot.

[–]dakilla12 0 points1 point ago

maybe if he missed...maybe

[–]illindividual 6 points7 points ago

Shaolin Soccer.

[–]BakerBitch 6 points7 points ago

Is this real? Something about it seems off.

[–]ewat85 15 points16 points ago

Video evidence. I've seen it done jokingly (not in a game) before as well. Some people are incredibly athletic.

[–]IamlegendAMA 1 point2 points ago

Doubt it. He stalls in the air before flipping, and nobody reacts to his flip

[–]war_story_guy 0 points1 point ago

No idea how you getting downvoted that midair stop is painfully obvious.

[–]IamlegendAMA 1 point2 points ago

Right? And then he just accelerates for no reason

[–]janyk 2 points3 points ago

I noticed it, too. I see this in a lot of gifs, and I wonder if it's just because when converting from videos to gifs the framerate gets screwed up.

[–]HannsGruber 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, because the .2 seconds of clip after he lands is enough to gauge the reactions of those around him.

[–]TheEastyE 0 points1 point ago

He stalls because he hasn't tucked yet. When you tuck, you bring your arms and legs closer to your body which lowers your inertia which in turn lets you spin faster

[–]wiithepiiple 0 points1 point ago

Two more like that and he gets a gamebreaker.

[–]dyljm2 0 points1 point ago

Seriously, how has no one posted this yet?

[–]magnusarin -1 points0 points ago

GOOOOOOOAAAALLLLL!!!!!!!

[–]ImDisruptive 1 point2 points ago

This is cool and all but how is it funny?

[–]whitespoon 0 points1 point ago

Imagine how he'd look to his teammates if he didn't score.

[–]Nawdah 0 points1 point ago

I watched that for wayyy to long.

[–]ftblgiants -1 points0 points ago

He would of looked like such a deuche bag if the goalie saved it

[–]GhettoKid 0 points1 point ago

Where are they breeding these super backflipping kids at?

Some big You-Tuber is making viral video Vag monsters.

[–]DVillain -1 points0 points ago

This is in the Netherlands.

[–]GiovanniTunk 2 points3 points ago

And all along I thought the double jump was fictional.

[–]popcap123 0 points1 point ago

If you play it slow mo the goal person looks like a ninga that try's to fire a laser out of his hands but trips and fails

[–]LobsterLanguage 1 point2 points ago

[–]1985jack000 0 points1 point ago

Clearly accidental

[–]casonthemason 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, show up the goalie by hot-dogging...sportsmanship like that is sure to endear you to the team trying to slide-tackle you...

[–]DrHasnoCash 0 points1 point ago

He foosballed the shit outta that foosball

[–]cocoria 0 points1 point ago

Holy crap, he did the jecht shot.

[–]frogswithwings 0 points1 point ago

The kid does not have game, is he athletic as shit to be able to pull that off? sure, the shot however was garbage. Mid height in the middle of the goal, had the keeper not moved at all the shot would be saved.

[–]neotifa 0 points1 point ago

Tidus

[–]Aaronmcom 0 points1 point ago

Why is the r/funny?

[–]JesusChrist5 0 points1 point ago

This kid has a bright future.

[–]jokerinahood 0 points1 point ago

The ref gives the goal but no fucks

[–]kamandi 0 points1 point ago

I had a buddy like that in high school...

He got a soccer scholarship and had a hot girlfriend.

Man I hated that guy.

[–]MunkyCharmer 1 point2 points ago

i knew fifa's physics engine was accurate

[–]TotallyFlaccid -1 points0 points ago

that guy is a douche

[–]swth 0 points1 point ago

what is this jump called?

[–]Abbernathy 3 points4 points ago

A gainer, I think?

[–]antonvowl -2 points-1 points ago

Yeah, there's no way that's real, you can't get that sort of force into a shot without following through.

[–]Awfy -3 points-2 points ago

This is how soccer is trying to appeal to the American market. Adding elements of half-time shows to the game itself.

[–]biskitsandgravy 0 points1 point ago

why is this in r/ funny?

[–]Soundmastersean -2 points-1 points ago

Not a violent person, but if I was the goalie I would kicked that ball back in his showboating face.

[–]OTuama 0 points1 point ago

No, that's not how you do it. You wait for the next corner, or breakaway and then "accidentally" take him out.

[–]abigdill -2 points-1 points ago

fake.
