2001 is a lot of scientists.

[–]horseflavour 10 points11 points ago

agreed. that title was confusing.

[–]ninja_at_law 4 points5 points ago

had to be a big bush

[–]MatE2010 28 points29 points ago

I can't believe I just watched an insect fight its way out of an egg for 6 minutes but, well, here we are. Rock on tree lobster, rock on.

[–]yentlequible 8 points9 points ago

The suspense of waiting for it to get its legs out was killing me.

[–]sjs 2 points3 points ago

It was like a creepy version of /r/popping. On one hand I (irrationally) wanted to kill the thing before it could escape, and on the other I really wanted to see the poor thing walking around unencumbered after struggling for so long.

Why must I click on these links? WHY??

Distant relatives of Rock Lobsters....

[–]Timbuk293 67 points68 points ago

He is so happy that his eyebrows are giving each other a high five

[–]ecg96 4 points5 points ago

Come on, leave Nicholas Cage alone.

[–]sexymugglehealer 1 point2 points ago

OMG.

Came to the comments because I knew somebody must have made a comment about the eyebrows.

I didn't expect this though.

Had I had any fluids in my mouth, my computer would have been freshly bathed right now.

Thanks for the laugh.

Oh dear, I felt so bad for the little guy! You can see him struggling to get his legs out and I was like, "C'mon little guy, just a little farther!" If I worked with baby animals that had to hatch out of eggs, I'd be so tempted to just pick it up and let it free. I know that's bad though...

[–]AliciaLeone 25 points26 points ago

To make myself feel better I have to keep telling myself, "This is a good thing Alicia, a good thing. It doesn't matter if they're huge and creepy, it's important." So far, it's unsuccessful.

[–]CaptainDickbag 9 points10 points ago

They just hang out and eat vegetation. They even form mating pairs. What the male does depends on what the female is doing.

[–]AliciaLeone 6 points7 points ago

Still large... Very large. Logically I know they are harmless and I would be fine handling them even (I'm an animal person). But mentally they would still creep me out.

[–]CaptainDickbag 3 points4 points ago

Still large... Very large.

Large romantic insects.

[–]AliciaLeone 1 point2 points ago

Hahaha, true

[–]kopiko 4 points5 points ago

=,)

[–]iongantas 7 points8 points ago

To be clear, those are insects and not actual lobsters, right?

[–]iongantas 9 points10 points ago

Just like humans.

[–]k8thedinosaur 4 points5 points ago

Lobsters are often called the cockroaches of the sea.

...I don't know if that actually clears anything up.

[–]peacefulacrez 2 points3 points ago

Yep. According to Wikipedia, they're a relative of Walking Sticks.

Rats eat just about anything they can fit in their mouth. They're omnivores, and part of that diet includes insects.

[–]RandomFrenchGuy 2 points3 points ago

Those lobsters seem to be lacking a lot of legs...

As an aside, it's amazing the damage that rats can make when introduced in a new ecosystem.

[–]bobdolebobdole 2 points3 points ago

Replace "now 2001" with "in 2001," and you're good.

[–]Jaboomaphoo 2 points3 points ago

Upvoted for time travel.

[–]db0255 2 points3 points ago

Also seen is the rare unibrow in its natural habitat

[–]zluruc 1 point2 points ago

These are so friggin' cool looking. (I know people who'd love to have a terrarium full of them.) Good on the scientists for managing to revive the species! I hope there's continued work to exterminate the rats, too.

[–]Not_A_Meme 1 point2 points ago

These lobsters look a lot like ants.

[–]dragonite462 0 points1 point ago

Unibrow!!!

[–]Ingish 0 points1 point ago

Wow, that is really cool!

Why is it I can picture people eating these...

[–]Rikitikitavi9162 0 points1 point ago

Beautiful!

[–]FeculentUtopia 0 points1 point ago

Whew. The man source for those fast food "lobster" burritos is finally safe and secure.
