I used to have this friend, Alex. A couple of times a week, one of us would call the other one in the middle of the night and utter a single word into the mouthpiece: Pie.

We'd then get up and still in our pajamas, meet at the same local diner, order two slices and trade out halfway through. Sometimes, we wouldn't even talk. Just sitting in the diner at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday night in our night clothes, hair matted to our heads, half asleep, quietly sharing pies.

I moved away. I miss that guy.

I'll have pie with you, AustinTreeLover.

[–]AustinTreeLover 17 points18 points ago

Aww! Thanks!

[–]Squirrels_eat_bacon 7 points8 points ago

Did I just witness a friendship?

[–]AlexanderDavidBand 9 points10 points ago

Now kiss.

[–]MrAnonymonster 13 points14 points ago

Is that how they're trading the pie?

[–]Ozlin 2 points3 points ago

Two guys, a fork, and a pie place.

[–]Gamion 3 points4 points ago

Two guys 1 fork.

[–]KickapooPonies -1 points0 points ago

Pie.

[–]Tailend22 18 points19 points ago

You should ring him up sometime, get back in town and surprise him.

Random day, random time of night. Wait outside his house. One word, Pie.

Of course it could backfire and go like "Dude I moved away like, 4 years ago. I live in France now."

If they really want pie, I'm sure distance is not an issue.

[–]dschneider 8 points9 points ago

Oh my gosh, are you in Austin? I want random pie outings!

Let's do this.

[–]riqk 2 points3 points ago

How did that even start happening? That seems like a pretty awesome thing, though.

[–]AustinTreeLover 1 point2 points ago

He started it. At first, he just called late one night and said, "Let's go get some pie." Eventually it just got shortened. We had an understanding. :)

[–]Digipatd -1 points0 points ago

This is so beautiful, I'm saving the quote.

[–]athrasher -2 points-1 points ago

This seems like a well written piece of fiction. It's romantic (in a non-sexual sense) but seems utterly implausible to me.

I love the idea of it, it's a beautiful extrapolation of what humans want, but I just don't think it's true.

I do like your comment. Amazing is very rarely real.

[–]AustinTreeLover 2 points3 points ago

Really? How sad for you that something like this is "utterly implausible".

It wasn't like magic. It started with him just calling to say, "Let's go get some dessert" or "pie" or something. Then, it just became a regular thing. There was no need to have a lengthy conversation after a while. It was our "thing".

It's not the weirdest thing I did in college. If it's so crazy to you that you feel the need to chime in and call me a liar, I feel sorry for you.

[–]athrasher -1 points0 points ago

I just can't see being woken up by text message to go eat pie and actually perceiving it as beautifully as you seemed to. I have never been woken up in the midst of slumber with any desire to go eat with someone.

I didn't call you a liar. I think there's a pretty real difference between telling a story that isn't entirely true in a reddit comment thread and truly lying.

Get over yourself in regard to the "I feel sorry for you" and "how sad" elements of your post. You feel sorry for me because I don't see meeting up with someone in the middle of the night to have dessert as likely to be real behavior?

You seem a bit defensive for someone just telling the quirky tale of their college years.

You have no idea how deep the bro code goes. One of the rules of the bro code is that you and your bros can add your own rules, and both must answer the call.

My my closest bro and I treat each other with Wendy's frosties twice per week, barring financial issues. In which case the other bro gets his bro 4 frosties until the other bro can buy 2 for his bro.

[–]beesk 37 points38 points ago

Banana cream's the first to go. We'll be lucky to get pumpkin at this point.

[–]Newshoe 18 points19 points ago

I'm sure there will be plenty of rhubarb for Pam

[–]fr0tch 22 points23 points ago

I hate playing this game when you go out to eat. The waiter/waitress comes, "So, you guys ready for dessert?"

Everyone looks at each other as if trying to telepathically get someone to say yes.

Finally someone shrugs, "Nah, were good."

Everytime.

[–]AlexanderDavidBand 7 points8 points ago

Exactly. It doesn't help that none of us have any room left because we stuffed our faces with rolls while waiting for our food.

Sidenote: O'Charlies' rolls are the best thing in the roll universe.

[–]shibblywibbly 7 points8 points ago

Coffee is more amenable when nobody has anywhere to be. Then the fatasses have time to eat their sugar covered sugar (I am one of said fatasses)

[–]Prax150[S] 2 points3 points ago

Did you pick that gif because that guy had telepathic powers in Heroes or was that just coincidence?

[–]fr0tch 0 points1 point ago

That's actually exactly why I picked it. Parkman was one of my favorites.

[–]Tailend22 -1 points0 points ago

Heroes S2 was so bad that I blocked out that Heroes even existed. Completely forgot about Parkman.

[–]heveabrasilien 13 points14 points ago

Haha, I've never seen him that happy before.

[–]Prax150[S] 18 points19 points ago

It hasn't been pretzel day in a while.

[–]heveabrasilien 1 point2 points ago

Oh, I haven't been following the latest season. Hopefully I can catch up at the next holiday.

[–]MasterAqua 10 points11 points ago

What do we want?!

Pies!

When do we want it?!

Pies!

[–]l3ane 20 points21 points ago

Got to be the happiest I've ever seen dudes face.

[–]foolin 5 points6 points ago

Stanley is great, he looks so miserable all the time. But Pretzel and these Pies and he seriously looks overwhelmed with joy.

[–]bo87 4 points5 points ago

A tumblr gif with the whole quote? huh.

[–]Prax150[S] 2 points3 points ago

It's 3 words, evne for Tumblr it would have been ridiculous to split it up

[–]bo87 1 point2 points ago

Well it did have an fps of 1.

[–]AlanClique 7 points8 points ago

Next thtop pieth!

[–]lorcantc 2 points3 points ago

Yeah seriously, I never noticed Stanley has a lisp. Spose he doesn't speak enough

[–]IesuGrist 1 point2 points ago

Next stop my thighs.

[–]ajniedo 2 points3 points ago

Episode was kinda disappointing in the beginning but once they got on the bus it completely turned around and I was laughing pretty hard most of the time, especially at the whole Creed hitchhiking thing. This season is actually pretty decent so far.

Edit: Best part

[–]decaf23 1 point2 points ago

Does anyone have a clip of this?

[–]Prax150[S] 6 points7 points ago

It just aired last night, so not... legally :P

[–]jhc1415 2 points3 points ago

here's the whole episode. I think it'll only work in the US though. The gif happens at around 13:20.

[–]haprdgn 0 points1 point ago

I thought this was going to be that Star Trek nodding gif.

[–]queenpandora 1 point2 points ago

As someone who works in a restaurant: I feel JUST as gleeful when the table agrees to dessert, but for somewhat different reasons.

[–]TheAdobeEmpire 1 point2 points ago

i just finished watching that episode.

[–]Painkiller655321 0 points1 point ago

:D

[–]mishtram 1 point2 points ago

I don't know why, but Stanley's happy face just makes me so happy

[–]blackaddermrbean 0 points1 point ago

his eyes.... they scare me....

[–]sydneygamer 0 points1 point ago

Clearly pies mean something totally different in America.

[–]gsbinc 0 points1 point ago

This episode was just on yesterday. That was fast

[–]you_freak_bitch 0 points1 point ago

too bad it's a savoury item in australia :( unless its a fruit pie i guess...

[–]SRaff922 1 point2 points ago

When I don't want to wait for dessert but have to reluctantly agree because everyone else wants.

MFW people order desert. http://i.imgur.com/eCDnj.gif hate spending the whole evening at the restaurant

[–]ginja_ninja -3 points-2 points ago

The Office may be the single least funny thing ever to exist on television or anywhere else. "Next stop pies?" Are these guys fucking serious?

[–]gsbinc 1 point2 points ago

You sir can go to hell

[–]Stregano 0 points1 point ago

I am not going to lie, normally with these gifs, I look at them, upvote since it is a gif I have not seen before and move on. I have never seen whatever show this is referencing, but I can't stop giggling at this gif. The dude is just so fucking excited for pies. It makes me happy that he is happy and now I want to break my diet and go to the grocery store and get some pies.

I guess I am lucky he didn't say, "Next Stop Meth" or "Next Stop Kill a Hooker" or something like that, because with his upbeat attitude, I would do it

[–]inthemooorning 0 points1 point ago

It's off The Office.

[–]EffYourCouch -2 points-1 points ago

This gif is brill to the max!!!

[–]DoctorBurns 0 points1 point ago

Oh god my sides
