You can just tell that this is the kind of cat that freaks outs, runs into furniture, and immediately tries to play it off like that didn't just happen.

It does this because cats use their whiskers to judge whether or not they can fit into a given space. It's like an extension of their sense of touch, which they rely heavily on when moving around. So the ham pretty much made this cat think it was crammed into a tiny box.

And so it responds accordingly, flipping out in a restricted manner until it thinks the wall (ham) is closing in on it like it's the trash compactor on the Death Star. When he flips backward, it hits the ground, and only then does he realize that a piece of meat is anywhere near him.

I have this weird thing about me that when I'm stressed out, whenever I see some totally random thing that's kind of (or very) funny, I'll start laughing. And then I'll keep laughing after I should have stopped, and then I'll start laughing at how much I'm laughing, and then I'll keep laughing some more, until eventually I collapse, sobbing in tears from the mirth. This .gif just gave me one of those little meltdowns, and now I feel a lot better about my midterms. Thank you.
