                                I think that's a good metric. There was a video a little while back that featured Commander Shepard doing the "My Brand" commercial. A guy posted it to /r/gaming and another guy posted it to /r/videos like 5 hours later with nearly identical titles. If was blatant karma whoring, I pointed it out, and got downvoted to oblivion.

                                There is nothing wrong with reposting, not everyone sees everything the first time. Your three rules are perfectly acceptable.

                                That is actually X posting, and I don't mind cross posting things nearly as much as I mind seeing the same thing in the exact same subreddit.

                                Not everyone sees /r/gaming as they are not subscribed, just as they may not be subscribed to /r/videos

                                I agree to an extent. Cross posting, I've always believed, was a dual purpose of exposing content from a smaller subreddit while exposing the subreddit to more popular front page stuff. I believe when you cross post from two major subreddits, you're really just looking for the karma, especially if the titles are nearly identical.

                                Of course this is all based off the fact that karma really doesn't matter and I don't give a shit how many points anyone has. It's got more to do with me wanting less immediate reposting and a little fresher content.

                                  There's a huge self-entitled, self-important subculture that has infected reddit. They completely ignore reddiquette, partly because there are no consequences, and partly because they are assholes. Most of the repost-whiners have submitted no original content or are simply butthurt that their OC was overlooked.

                                  I'm not sure why I still come to reddit, frankly. Most of the time I just get angry at the repost-whiners and all the false equivalences thrown about. What's a good site that is like reddit but with folks enforcing Wil's Law ("Don't be a dick")?

                                  Consider the other side of this coin though. Users who have been here for a long time ending up trawling through the frontpage going "seen it, seen it, seen it ... jesus who hasn't seen this?" It's at the point where there are more than a few highly rated submissions that I know I've seen based on the title alone. Sure I'm exaggerating a little bit but surely the benefit of reposts for newer users can't be so important that people who are getting bored of seeing the same thing get voted to frontpage over and over again can be called a self-entitled, self-important infection?

Just because some people can take the time to continuously read reddit all day long and see everything come and go doesn't mean others have. In fact there are two factors. Time on reddit, as well as depth of pages viewed. It's very easy to simply miss content.
