You can do that....just need to make sure next time you plug it in it does not have a single smidgen of water on it.

Truth. As long as it's 100% dry before being powered this is totally fine.

Yeah and removing the motherboard battery first isn't a bad idea either that way there's no possibility of the water frying it while washing.

Couldn't it speed up the rate of corrosion?

He was lying, and the picture has already been posted to Reddit several times.

Think about it. Maybe he did see some disturbing sites and is just using this pic to show how bad they are. And he post this to facebook not reddit. He wasn't being a karma whore or a replayed he was just making a joke. I mean god forbid I post a pic or something on Facebook cause it was Reddit first.

He made it sound like his friend did this, rather than was making a jest about bad help sites for PCs.

Anyway, a sponge wouldn't get into the cracks and crevices. He needs a scrubbing brush of some sort.

Nothing wrong with this; move along. It's common for some people and after washing, they will dunk it in a giant bowl of rice to absorb the moisture. jermzdeejd is right, if it has a tiny molecule of water on it, it'll fry it upon start up.

Water doesnt conduct electricity, the impurities in the water make it conductive.
