That's really a shame. Both because you lose any opportunity to correct mistruths or misconceptions in others, as well as you close yourself off to new ideas. If you're not willing to defend your political views; maybe that's something to revisit. If your friends are ignorant and get violent at the mention of politics... that's a good reason to go out and meet new people.

It doesn't bother me so much that people are ignorant and disintersted of politics, it bothers me that they are proud of it.

It looks like you're getting a lot of negative feedback on this. I for one completely agree. When I'm hanging out with my friends the last thing I want to do is talk about politics. Not that I'm completely disinterested in it, I just don't think it makes a great topic of discussion and I honestly feel that it's a waste of a perfectly good hang out sesh.
