:( My heart goes out to you. We're trying for #2. If this is your first, be warned, it'll take more out of you than you can possibly imagine, and will likewise be more rewarding than you ever dreamed.

What I can't figure out is why fertility issues are so common. Of all the evolutionary traits most aggressively selected for, fertility would have to be right at the top. Intelligence, physical performance, attractiveness to mates, none of it matters to your genetic survival if you can't have kids. Even a retarded hunchback with stumps for limbs can still breed. So you'd think that fertility would have been elevated more or less to the top of the list of "traits that absolutely, positively have to work, else don't bother with the rest".

Of course, there's the "rich uncle" hypothesis (basically, "Can't have kids? Better take care of your nieces and nephews"), which actually really would come into play for a species like us, which requires so much intensive care for its young, blunting the effect of infertility tremendously.

There are a lot of factors involved in fertility issues. Age is probably the biggest (women under 30 have a significantly higher chance of a successful pregnancy) but other factors include [but aren't limited to] genetic compatibility between specific partners, average testicular temperature of the man and expectations.

When you're waiting for something it takes longer.

It is observations like this which makes me think that post generations are too literal.
I understand the humour in it, but I moved on from this brand of humour when I turned 20. I liken it to someone in their mid 30's who still runs off fart and dick jokes. Though the occasional ones are fine, you kind of lose interest in the people who are just all about fart and dick jokes.

My own personal pet peeve is "we're pregnant". No, sorry, just, no. Unless you are a lesbian couple who are actually both pregnant at the same time, she is pregnant, we are expecting.
