I did this exact thing at a game I was working. My sister was at the game so I took a break to see how her and her friends were doing. They were sitting behind home plate when a foul ball went over the net and ricocheted off the roof heading directly for the back of her head. I put my hand out and caught it and that section went silence. I gave the ball to a little kid, told my sister I would see her later and went back to work.

Easy way to remember these things: make it singular and use the same pronoun you would if it were. Here, you'd say, "how she was doing" rather than "how her was doing".
