its always a treat to find horribly outdated websites

usually they're owned by rural companies who probably payed the local town hick "computer wiz" a big stack of cash to make the monstrosity.

Animal breeder websites are usually a 50/50 chance of having a midi song playing in the background and a few animated gifs

A popular applet called Geocities.

[–]mirandaE 0 points1 point ago

Reminds me of "the dead and the gone".

[–]Backlash27 1 point2 points ago

I came in here just to say that. I have a mix of nostalgia and horror for the web in those days. Remember midi music and javascript scrolling status bar text, too? :)

[–]kara123125 5 points6 points ago

I just barely watched that episode. AMAZING. Just had to share.

[–]nalgasdehule 2 points3 points ago

This relaxed me.

[–]TheOneWhoKnocksBitch 4 points5 points ago

This makes me want to move to some small little village in a European country. I don't know why, but now I really want to.

[–]JayBowls 5 points6 points ago

Now do this one.

[–]CanisDufus 5 points6 points ago

Not directly related, but the other day it hit me that the song "Starry Night" by Don McLean is actually about this very painting. I've known of the existence of both for at least twenty years but I never made the connection until now.

[–]fogdelune 6 points7 points ago

That song makes my eyes leak.

[–]neilson_ 5 points6 points ago

Fun Fact: By checking out some of the other work he was doing at the time you find that the mountain is actually a cypress tree in the foreground.

[–]Drabkikker 0 points1 point ago

How can you not see that as a cypress tree?

[–]unbwogable 2 points3 points ago

I need this in a higher quality so I can make it a live background on my phone

[–]krononaut 4 points5 points ago

[–]GrizzledBastard 2 points3 points ago

That town is flooded!

[–]basec0m 2 points3 points ago

Ah... I remember toying around with applets and javascript back in the day...

[–]vogtay 2 points3 points ago

Woud anyone know how to make this into a background for an iPhone? I think it could be pretty neat.

[–]jbrizzly 2 points3 points ago

upvoted for neat,

and to answer your question, it's very easy to do, but you need to jailbreak your iPhone

[–]vogtay 1 point2 points ago

Oh hey thanks a bunch!

[–]ulmusrubra 1 point2 points ago

I'm curious if this could be turned into a live wallpaper for an Android phone.

[–]liqdnitro 1 point2 points ago

Hey that's why I came here! I wish it could be, but I don't have the slightest idea how to do that.

[–]aliasdenied[S] 1 point2 points ago

I would just like it to be known that I didn't make this. I just thought it was neat.

[–]Weednesday 0 points1 point ago

Oh wow, must have been hard to make it.

[–]MEANMUTHAFUKA 0 points1 point ago

Wow that is really cool. I love that painting. I have it hanging in my living room. And no, it's not the original. It's a reprint.

[–]Lunux 1 point2 points ago

This gif was so calm, it was almost unsettling. I was starting to expect something would jump out at me.

[–]Bnightwing 1 point2 points ago

Reminds me of Hogwarts.

[–]Aginielious 0 points1 point ago

Cat

[–]TheChosenOne013 -1 points0 points ago

That is really neat. You should xpost to /r/cinemagraphs

[–]OMGTehAwsome 1 point2 points ago

Cute, but it doesn't really make sense. Starry Night is set on a hill, so those homes wouldn't be reflecting on the water... they'd be under it. Especially when you consider that the water level is high enough to submerge the cypress tree on the left.

[–]Schroedingers_gif 4 points5 points ago

I don't think realism is the goal of this.

[–]system_of_a_clown 0 points1 point ago

This is pretty cool. I'm assuming the effect must have been done in Adobe After Effects or something like it.

[–]8906 0 points1 point ago

You can do this with Nature Illusion Studio.

[–]Mr_OhHi 0 points1 point ago

tacky as fuck.
