If by quirky idiosyncrasy you mean that pronoun possession is outside a consistent pattern, you're wrong:

Mine

Yours

His

Hers

Its

Ours

Theirs

None of them have apostrophes. "Its" is completely consistent.

Whereas in the case of an apostrophe to substitute for a missing vowel in the case of pronoun + to be, "it's" is also completely consistent:

You're

He's

She's

It's

We're

They're

Whereas "Archies" and "Jugheads"... what?

I was being ironical. The correct possessive form for Archie is Archie's. "Archie" is a noun. "It" is also a noun.. Of the words in your first list, "its" is the only one whose root is a noun, all the roots of the rest are also adjectives. So I don't find the logic consistent. But that's just me man, we're all trying to find our own way in this crazy world, you know?

What bothers me about your list is that it is a list of possessive pronouns, except for "its." (And "his" can be used as both an adjective and a pronoun, but I'm guessing you meant it as a pronoun.) "Its" is not a possessive pronoun. "Its" is an adjective. It is always used to modify a noun. All the words in your list can be used in the sentence "That dildo over there is <insert possessive pronoun here>." "Its" cannot. It is not a pronoun.

So to return to my original point, "Archie's", "Jughead's", "Veronica's" are all adjectives, in the same way that "its" is an adjective. "It" is a special case being a pronoun, but the way it is modified to become a possessive adjective is not consistent with the way that other nouns are modified to become possessive adjectives.

When I said "just like 'Archies'/'Jugheads'" I was being sarcastic--clearly, these words are not modified in the same way that "it" is. Obviously the sarcasm wasn't clear!

Its is indeed a possessive pronoun. Although the wording itself is awkward, it's not incorrect to say "That dildo over there is its" = "That dildo over there belongs to it", to use your example. 'His', 'hers' or 'theirs' in place of 'its' sound much more natural than 'its', but it's not incorrect.

Huh. Merriam-Webster and Dictionary.com disagree on this. M-W calls it an adjective, Dictionary.com says it can be used as a possessive pronoun. But I'll concede the point, I never realized it was a possessive pronoun, it's almost never used like that.

All I'm saying is this: I find it interesting that the modification of "it" to "its" to create a possessive adjective is inconsistent with how other nouns are modified to create a possessive adjective. Examples: "the cat's", "Jughead's", "the dildo's".

I agree that the conversion of "it" to its rarely-used possessive pronoun "its" is consistent with other possessive pronouns. But I'm not talking about the rarely-used possessive pronoun "its". I'm talking about the very-frequently-used adjective "its". The adjective "its" is not consistent with how other nouns are modified to become adjectives.

How often do you hear the word "its" used in the following sense: "The rudder belongs to the ship. It is its." How awkward is that? That is "its"'s possessive pronoun sense. I can't even think of a normal sentence where the possessive pronoun "its" is used. However, as rarely used as it is, "its" as a possessive pronoun is consistent enough with other possessive pronouns. You're totally right about that.

But, you might hear (from a grammatically awkward sailor) "The rudder belongs to the ship. It is its rudder." That is the adjective sense of "its" that I find idiosyncratic.
