I understand that, but many people do, and I am curious as to how you would find someone who is open to this sort of relationship. Do you let them know straight up, first date kinda thing? Do you keep everything above the belt until you have been dating a while, then tell them?

Personally I would let them know before sex(obviously) but not on the first date, you gotta keep in mind that I have to think about being physically hurt for being transgender, or outed to people at work, or to my landlord, or to friends, and simply one person with a grudge could really destroy me.

So when I wait and don't say anything, its because I have to, for my own sake.

I dunno how OP's significant other feels, but I dated an individual who was transitioning in the past. I just liked her for her. I was drawn by her personality and attracted. It wasn't about who had what organs, just about being together and making each other feel happy and good...like any other couple. She was very up front and honest, which I appreciated. But her gender identity wasn't an issue for me at all, I just liked her and wanted her to be happy.

Uhm Actually my boyfriend happens to be transgender as well, the opposite direction, so Female-to-male. Over all, that gets really interesting...But I was dating a cis(read:not trans) female when I came out, I just broke up with her cause I didn't want to date a girl at the moment. She was really surprised, but also really supportive and nice about everything!

Uh, you know I don't, I just spent years wishing and wanting to be a girl and being depressed over that fact that i wasn't. I hated my body(not that it was a bad male body! it was pretty good by most standards, if a little short) It was just wrong though, My body should have been female, not male. I tried to be manly, I tried to ignore it, it just kept coming back.

And instead of being depressed the rest of my life, I decided to fix it, it was totally worth it.

As far as like, actually scientific causes, from what I can tell it tends to be from a feminized brain in utero, so quite literally my brain is built like a girls and acts like a girls brain would, which is why there is such distress from having a male body, it just doesn't fit.
