how Woody reacted when Reddit made fun of his AMA

[–]goofymilk 1 point2 points ago

Here is a link, in case you guys were wanting to see it.

[–]dhockey63 70 points71 points ago

Obama is worth $11,000,000 right now, i wouldn't consider him "middle class" at all

[–]Stanstanlol 33 points34 points ago

Neither would I. Neither would most people. In fact, I've never heard anyone imply that. Plus, there is a big difference between 11 million and "I don't know exactly how much, but close tow a quarter billion"

[–]specialk16 9 points10 points ago

Seriously, what the actual fuck, 11M is nothing compared to what the ultra rich class in the US has.

[–]Bodoblock 5 points6 points ago

Eh, after the first 3 million I consider all the same. A guy with $11 million is going to live pretty comfortably for the rest of his life as long as he's not stupid. And in Obama's case, he'll definitely live extremely comfortably. Just wait for that post-presidency book tour.

[–]Vertyx 5 points6 points ago

I was under the impression that his fortune pretty much exclusively came from his book already. Why change a winning concept.

[–]Fig1024 0 points1 point ago

they all live pretty comfortably, but their social circles are going to be very different. The people with greatest political and economical influence are all worth 100s of millions. Someone with net worth of just 11 mil is probably too small of a fish to have any real influence

[–]isofat 2 points3 points ago

Once you are the President, your social circle is damn near anybody you want. I'm fairly certain Jay-Z and Beyonce are and will be having parties with the Obamas.

[–]Kensin 1 point2 points ago

well... maybe not a big difference. Either way, neither one of them will ever need to worry about money.

[–]Nebakanezzer 4 points5 points ago

you can lose 11 mil on a few fancy toys and a fuck up on a tax form

a quarter billion takes a few generations of idiots blowing through money to even make a dent in it

[–]DiaDeLosMuertos 9 points10 points ago

He doesn't call himself middle class. He's said a few times something like "People like me should pay a little more."

[–]OmegaSeven 1 point2 points ago

More than a few.

He is very careful to include himself when he talks about who would be effected by his tax plans.

[–]RockyMotion 1 point2 points ago

No, he's not. But he's the fucking President of the United States. I'm surprised he isn't worth way more than that.

[–]videogameexpert -2 points-1 points ago

I'd rather have a president worth $250,000 than one worth 11M.

Someone who, at one point in their life, had to live off ramen noodles and toasty o's for 2/3 meals a day. (hint: it's not fun and I don't want to go back)

[–]OmegaSeven 2 points3 points ago

Look into Obama's college years.

Seriously, the man hasn't always been rich and didn't have wealthy parents to give him quite the same leg up Romney had (regardless of Romney having to sell a quarter million dollars worth of stocks his father gave him to 'get by' in college).

[–]flyingtiger188 4 points5 points ago

I wonder how does that compares to other national level politicians worth?

[–]Dark_Shroud 6 points7 points ago

You mean like Kerry & Edwards?

[–]Gerdass 2 points3 points ago

Romney makes more than 11million IN ONE YEAR. And has done so in multiple years.

[–]csbrown83 0 points1 point ago

when he speaks, he counts himself in the group that should be paying more taxes. I don't think he considers himself middle class, either.

[–]BadDudes -3 points-2 points ago

True, but he actually had to work hard, and struggle for his education to be in the position he's in today. Romney already had money. Obama wants to give more opportunities to those in the middle class to move up, and Romney would rather kick the ladder, and leave them behind.

[–]JustHereToDerp 4 points5 points ago

Don't get too brave!

[–]HumourNoir 20 points21 points ago

Shameful repost with almost the same title.

[–]BlueElephants 0 points1 point ago

Thank you. I'm not sure as to what's happening on reddit, but I feel like 50% of what's being posted are reposts, which are not even a month old.

[–]skeptical_spectacle 100 points101 points ago

I like how Reddit pretends that Barack Obama isn't incredibly wealthy.

[–]Stanstanlol 42 points43 points ago

Although a blind eye is sometime turned, comparing their wealth is like comparing apples to hundreds and hundreds of apples (some of which have been earned questionably).

[–]Dark_Shroud 23 points24 points ago

Obama is a millionaire with a guaranteed lifetime government pension that will pay him more per year than most people make in 2+ years.

Not to mention he will keep his government Cadillac health care plan while we get the pinto plan.

[–]Avatar_Ko 26 points27 points ago

Wait, what? My health care plan's going to explode?

[–]Dark_Shroud 4 points5 points ago

The prices already are. :(

[–]rocketwidget 0 points1 point ago

Which has been happening for decades, and the PPACA's main functions haven't been enacted yet.

[–]rocketwidget 2 points3 points ago

Yes. Getting more Americans insured is valueless if the leader of the free world gets a better than average plan.

[–]videogameexpert 0 points1 point ago

needs a sarcasm mark. Couple downvoters didn't get the memo. ؟

[–]BookmarkSaver 5 points6 points ago

But he hasn't had that his entire life, only in the past four years. Romney was born into an extremely wealthy family.

[–]kirkt 5 points6 points ago

And he donated / gave away most of his inheritance. His current wealth is almost entirely his own doing.

[–]phreeck 1 point2 points ago

Shame on Romney then.

[–]BookmarkSaver 3 points4 points ago

Why? Just pointing out the difference.

[–]goofymilk 3 points4 points ago

He was being sarcastic.

[–]BookmarkSaver 0 points1 point ago

I realize. I just think he was being silly attributing an opinion to me that is not relevant to what I said.

[–]Dark_Shroud 1 point2 points ago

Because Romney's health insurance and pension are not funded with tax payer money. He pays for them himself.

On top of that Romney gives 30% of his income to charity every year. It's probably amount larger than most of us make in a year.

[–]romulusnr 0 points1 point ago

That would be true of every president, ever. So.... 404 point not found.

[–]Spiderveins -4 points-3 points ago

Didn't some other shill use the exact same construction earlier in the thread?

[–]OppositeImage 0 points1 point ago

same person repeating.

[–]Dark_Shroud 1 point2 points ago

Not everyone who disagrees with you is a "shill" you ass.

[–]narpas 6 points7 points ago

He's not Romney-wealthy. He was reasonably wealthy as a lawyer and professor of law until his political career took off, and after that point his wealth is dwarfed by the support of the Democratic Party.

[–]Szalkow 0 points1 point ago

I like how conservatives pretend that Barack Obama isn't a Christian American.

[–]skeptical_spectacle 1 point2 points ago

Kind of like how /r/atheism pretends that he's a secret atheist who just goes to church his whole life to hide his inner-awesome-atheist alter ego.

[–]JeSuisNerd 0 points1 point ago

Here is a very well-researched post making the argument that, if not atheist, Obama is very liberally religious.

[–]mark9O 144 points145 points ago

[–]dalco 13 points14 points ago

right back at ya

[–]Atheistus 2 points3 points ago

this is everything reddit.

[–]Jeroknite 3 points4 points ago

[–]Hayman68 0 points1 point ago

I don't know, either

[–]GamesAreArt 5 points6 points ago

It's called sarcasm.

[–]swirk 7 points8 points ago

You didn't wait for the gif to load didya?

[–]GamesAreArt 3 points4 points ago

HOLY CRAP! I didn't notice because I thought I'd know how it'd end.

[–]CrypticPhantasma 50 points51 points ago

Fuck off and take your r/politics with you

[–]Ketsui 26 points27 points ago

Seriously, reddit get this liberal dick out of your ass and stop up voting everything democratic in ANY FUCKING PLACE THAT'S NOT POLITICAL!

I unsubscribed /r/politics for a reason.

[–]Remus117 -2 points-1 points ago

Maybe you should unsub from Reddit then..It's a fact that the majority of the users are liberal or moderate.

[–]AmpleReason -2 points-1 points ago

I cringe when I see comments like this. Why does anyone need to articulate their feelings by using dicks and arses as analogies?

[–]treeeehouse 9 points10 points ago

Get out of here r/politics. Nobody wants you

[–]iputbananasinmybutt 8 points9 points ago

Hey! $10,000 bet that's not his reaction?

[–]Not_A_Meme 2 points3 points ago

I love this gif, what's it from?

[–]danif9 3 points4 points ago

Zombieland I think.

[–]thelazt1 1 point2 points ago

r/politics is leaking

[–]mbleslie 2 points3 points ago

Ya know Kerry was richer than Romney back in '04. I don't remember all the whining about his money.

[–]310jewel 0 points1 point ago

You have short term memory loss then

[–]huntroy 4 points5 points ago

All you liberal retards. Romney worked to get where he is. He didn't take advantage of the government like most over privileged, foodstamp using assholes

[–]JayJayJokesterr 18 points19 points ago

This comment seems brilliantly constructed to ignite anger in liberals.

Well done, troll. Well done.

[–]jenchan13 6 points7 points ago

I like the cut of your jib.

[–]ChainsawSam 4 points5 points ago

He took advantage of a bailout much larger than my well earned Veteran's disability would cost for 10 lifetimes.

[–]isthat_edward_towers 1 point2 points ago

The bailout that Obama implemented.

[–]ChainsawSam 4 points5 points ago

Incorrect for two reasons:

  1. Obama didn't initiate a "bailout." He initiated a Stimulus. The bailout was signed into law by good ol' G-Dub and simply carried out by Obama as it bled over between presidencies (TARP was made official in October 2008, a full month before Obama was even elected let alone inaugurated). The government has still done several bailouts (both at the state and federal levels) since Obama took office, but these things are business as usual.

  2. The bailout that Bain received occurred way before either Bush or Obama took office, back when Romney was officially still with the company back in the 90s.

As far as bailouts go it wasn't that large, but to say he isn't "over privileged" and didn't "take advantage of the government" is false.

Edit: Still enough to cover my Veteran's Disability for 26 lifetimes.

[–]mugwump10 0 points1 point ago

but these things are business as usual.

You can go after the bailouts or the stimulus and take the correct stance on both: they both take taxpayer dollars against taxpayer will.

[–]ChainsawSam 0 points1 point ago

I have nothing against bailouts when exercised properly, but in those cases we're talking about an extremely narrow spectrum of the business world. We're talking about small businesses that the community relies on being stomped flat due to a drought or similar circumstance. These sorts of things should be handled at the state level and should end up costing very little money comparatively.

I shouldn't have to point out that the modern idea of a bailout is multi-million or billion dollar companies making bad bets and getting their losses covered while those in actual needy circumstances get the bird. Obviously I think this is a shitty idea and encourages shitty behavior.

[–]mugwump10 0 points1 point ago

These sorts of things should be handled at the state level and should end up costing very little money comparatively.

Cost who?

Who are you referring to here?

I have nothing against bailouts when exercised properly,

The fact that you're even making the distinction that there is a "proper way" to spend my tax dollars on a PRIVATE enterprise that has NO BENEFIT TO ME OR THE OTHER TAX PAYERS WHICH FUND THIS "BAILOUT," shows that you are clearly not considering what it means to possess true individual economic freedom. You assume that a bailout is a necessary step. It never is, never was, and will never be. What right does the government have to reach into my pocket and pull out the balance that determines whether these companies are in the red or black?

Whatever small businesses bolster said communities, they are started by private individuals. People don't get that a core element of entering into a free market is the risk/reward paradigm. Yes, when they're doing well, the surrounding community will likely thrive; however, if the structure of the company is such that it is unable to stay competitive in its respective market, then losing business (revenue, profit) is going to be a symptom of such shortcomings. THIS IS THE WAY IT WAS DESIGNED TO WORK. Why the fuck do people have such a problem with this? If you have a successful corporate structure, you stay in business.

If it fails? The free market has a mechanism for dealing with this. Liquidation of assets comes to mind (just to name one). Remnants of factories get bought up and sold all over again, real estate is re-assessed and evaluated, and emerging companies begin to get their break when "too big to fail" actually is allowed to do so. They suddenly have the opportunity to come in and offer some of the skilled workers that were laid off better jobs working for a different company.

Government, at the state or federal level, is unnecessary in bolstering or undercutting private enterprise. Period.

A failing business is not the end of the god damn world. If the system were set up correctly, it would spur growth despite a single failure. Unfortunately, we aren't likely to see that "true system" anytime soon. At least not with Obama or Romney at the helm.

[–]ismellburnttoast 1 point2 points ago

And his VP choice...?

[–]i_love_shrimp101 -1 points0 points ago

Okay, I get what you say about people using food stamps the wrong way, but what if people on the street, with illnesses and stuff like that... what would they do?

[–]huntroy -1 points0 points ago

What I said was alitle overboard but by overprice aged I mean people who think that because rich people have money they should to. My grandfather imagrated here from puerto rico( step grandfather) he lived on the streets and in slums for years. But he tried hard in school and now makes tons of money as an electronic engineer. He never even asked for a dime. Why should people take money from the rich who already pay most of the taxes and keep it just because they didn't work hard enough

[–]huntroy -1 points0 points ago

  • over privlaged

[–]i_love_shrimp101 1 point2 points ago

Oh. I get what your saying. The only reason I made that comment is because my uncle was living on the street just because he had a 4 or 5 minute break so when we heard he was on the street we had to take him in and he had to get food stamps just to live. So yeah sorry if my comment made you upset! Have a nice evening. :D

[–]bnYKodak -5 points-4 points ago

Yeah, life sure is rough when your dad's a politician and president of a large corporation.

"Over privileged, foodstamp using" -- Do you even think about what you're saying before you spout it out? For a second I thought Romney's pandering was too obnoxious for even the most ignorant among us, thanks for proving me wrong.

To the bottom with the #truth.

[–]walkthedinosaurrrr 11 points12 points ago

Calling someone ignorant then saying "#truth" Really

[–]swirk -2 points-1 points ago

Sarcasm my friend. Sarcasm.

[–]zarisin -2 points-1 points ago

Hey I don't use foodstamps, I use my flex spending account to gamble a few thousand in Reno to see if I can't make enough back to buy groceries for my 11 kids.

[–]BaboTron 2 points3 points ago

Thought it'd be this face, which seems to be the only one he can make.

[–]cavitycreep 0 points1 point ago

The man's a robot, I just know it.

[–]MewtwoStruckBack 2 points3 points ago

As wrong as this is, I would love to see how fucked up presidential races would get if the first act of the newly-elected president was to legally execute the person who lost against them.

[–]Eggwolls 1 point2 points ago

Make fun of rich people for having money yayyy!

[–]shenye 2 points3 points ago

Romney's reaction when he doesn't get elected as President.

FTFY

[–]mhering06 1 point2 points ago

Why are people pretending Obama isn't just as rich as Romney?

[–]cavitycreep 7 points8 points ago

Because Mitt has way more money than Obama.

[–]IronLeviathan 2 points3 points ago

because he's not.

[–]titos334 1 point2 points ago

He is wealthy, but he was at least not raised in a wealthy family and earned the large portion of his wealth from writing books after becoming a career politician

[–]epitome_of_random -1 points0 points ago

This should be at the top!

[–]p47121ck -1 points0 points ago

I love how I made this exact same post a month ago and it got down voted into oblivion

[–]dodspringer 0 points1 point ago

when

[–]jElean 0 points1 point ago

That "if" makes me laugh.

[–]For_a_moment_then 0 points1 point ago

WHEN he doesn't get elected a President.

[–]ignoramus012 -1 points0 points ago

LOLOLOLOLOL HE'S RICH GET IT?

So is Obama. Let's mock them for their actual failures as leaders. They're liars and lunatics, but we go for the cheap joke?

[–]Leeps 3 points4 points ago

Watching this movie right as we speak, that scene just happened :P

[–]IronLeviathan 2 points3 points ago

which movie is this?

[–]ChainsawSam 10 points11 points ago

[–]K3TtLek0Rn 0 points1 point ago

I thought it was going to be Ben stiller in dodgeball at the end eating the chicken wings.

[–]thiss -3 points-2 points ago

Is that Prometheus

[–]Dark_Shroud -3 points-2 points ago

[–]romulusnr -4 points-3 points ago

Never knew just how fake the money looked in that movie. Never saw it, seemed dumb.

[–]310jewel 0 points1 point ago

Someone tried to pass me a counterfeit bill that was from movie studio props. He tried to pass it in the dark so I wouldn't notice it. But it was so fake feeling that i took a closer look. It had the studio's info on it and it said IN DOG WE TRUST

[–]romulusnr -1 points0 points ago

I would like to think that a props department for a movie that managed to bring on Woody Harrelson, Demi Moore, and Robert Redford could manage to make or find prop money that didn't look like photocopies on 20# letter paper.
