I remember when his character was just kind of a goofy guy instead of the mentally disabled laughing stock of The Office.

[–]esbohorquez 65 points66 points ago

I miss that Kevin. This Kevin is ridiculous. They literally made a "joke" that he didn't know the alphabet. I mean come on.

[–]Ironfruit 2 points3 points ago

Another one of the reasons I am thankful that Gervais had the integrity to end The Office after two seasons, a decision inspired by Fawlty Towers (IIRC).

American TV shows can be fantastic but I can think of very few that haven't overstayed their welcome. Not to say it doesn't happen in the UK of course; but it's more a US thing from what I have seen.

[–]KerriganIskindaHot 3 points4 points ago

We all know this, but I still prefer the American way of doing it.. you can choose to stop watching a show if you want, but it's just frustrating when you find a show you love and it ends after two seasons with 6 episodes per season or something like that.

That said I do agree with esbohorquez about Kevin.

[–]mentalmentalist -3 points-2 points ago

Dr. Who in the UK really enjoys a show that overstays it's welcome?

[–]Ironfruit 0 points1 point ago

Arguably, but it's ever changing. New companions, writers, Doctors, etc. Even if I grow tired of it, I never want it to end so the next generation can have their Doctors.

WARNING: The above comment is a TV Tropes link. You will lose the rest of your day if you choose to click it.

[–]Horong 9 points10 points ago

I clicked it, and my day is still here. See, it's only... shit. 4 am.

[–]electroly -2 points-1 points ago

WARNING: TVTROPES LINK.

I had six tabs open before I realized what was happening. Be careful with those links, man.

[–]fswmacguy -5 points-4 points ago

Well, I already clicked it no turning back now.

[–]done_holding_back 16 points17 points ago

I like to think of the later seasons as a different show, that way I can say "The Office was great, but I don't like the sequal: Wacky Times at Dunder Mifflin".

[–]dannyr -1 points0 points ago

Literally

[–]Bryaxis 16 points17 points ago

I think at the beginning of the show he was more of a quiet guy with a lot of surprising traits (very good at basketball, way into poker, drummer in a band). By the time the Niagara Falls episode rolls around, he's just a stinky retard.

[–]ShatterWulf 5 points6 points ago

Well, he fooled Holly.

[–]hambawlz 3 points4 points ago

This is one of the main reason why i stopped watching that show. It's not even funny to any degree, it's just desperate.

edit: i meant kevin's 'jokes' are desperate, not the show in general.

[–]thegraverobber 2 points3 points ago

That's a bit much.

JTS (Joey Tribbiani Syndrome)

[–]ReflexMan 0 points1 point ago

Flanderization remains my least favorite aspect of sit-coms.

It drives me up a wall. If you don't want to get sucked into TvTropes, essentially, Flanderization is when a fairly balanced character (balanced meaning they have lots of attributes and are a fairly well rounded character), and over the years, they DEVOLVE into one super exaggerated trait. It's the most obnoxious thing ever.

Joey Tribbiani on Friends started out as the least "intellectual" of the group, but he was by no means stupid. He didn't care about the nerdy, geeky things that Ross and Chandler might have, but he could draw conclusions, and when people made jokes, he understood them. Later on in the series, they took the fact that he wasn't the most bookish character, and turned him into not only a stupid person, but one who honestly was too stupid to function as an adult. Honestly, any time someone made a reference to anything that most people know, Joey doesn't know it. Any time someone makes a joke, he either laughs at it at the end of the scene, or he doesn't ever understand it. It was absurd.

It quite honestly ruins sit coms for me, knowing that they will start off really strong, and then a few seasons in, the writers will notice that people laugh at X, Y, and Z, so they make the show ONLY ABOUT X, Y, and Z. Guess what, people laughed at those things when they were balanced in. When the show it only those things, it's awful.

(How I Met Your Mother isn't necessarily a case of Flanderization, but the arguments against it work for HIMYM. The show started really strong, but they are just using the same 2-3 tropes over and over, and it has gotten abysmally hard to watch.)

[–]dontbait 0 points1 point ago

He was supposed to be a supporting cast member, but they had him basically written out of any progressive roles by season 2.

WANT GO SEE WORLD.

WANT GO SEA WORLD.

[–]5kToSelfDestruction 0 points1 point ago

that's just a problem of homophones, if kevin were smart he'd say, 'travel globe.', or 'travel planet.'

[–]great_gape 45 points46 points ago

Sometimes I feel like this is reposted a lot.

And by a lot, I mean all the times.

All the time.

Every day.

[–]dhp1161 9 points10 points ago

Every OF the day

[–]pmCrave 15 points16 points ago

IT'S NEW TO MEEEE

[–]studmuffffffin 0 points1 point ago

I've been on here for a year and a half, spend hours a day on here, and I've never seen it before. I didn't find it that interesting, so I'll join in on the "I hate reposts" parade.

[–]TheGreatAntlers 17 points18 points ago

I'd love for him to do an ama

[–]chewp911 10 points11 points ago

Hearing him talk in his normal voice is a little mind blowing.

[–]easa123 3 points4 points ago

It's so... normal.

[–]PantsFerret 4 points5 points ago

This always comes to mind whenever someone complains about how stupid their coworkers are or how much they can relate to Jim from the Office...

[–]JingleBellsSwag 12 points13 points ago

Damn...I read this as "Karl Malone's" take on grammar, and was realy excited for some grade A Karl Malone humor...curse you dyslexia!

[–]5kToSelfDestruction 0 points1 point ago

Karl Malone says the third person is the only person.

[–]MegaDaveX 0 points1 point ago

[–]pv37 1 point2 points ago

This was seriously on the front page like two weeks ago.

[–]Jakorama 6 points7 points ago

He reminds me of a fat Ted from Scrubs

[–]sinsperception 2 points3 points ago

If I printed this out and posted at my work, no one would get the joke.

[–]ManOnTheMoon1800 0 points1 point ago

repost from 2 weeks ago. get with it

[–]Malonekt 1 point2 points ago

Every time someone uses my full name on reddit.... I get excited, then realize that it's that fat guy from the office.

[–]arialth 0 points1 point ago

Fuck yeah out of context reposts.

[–]AlexHeyNa -1 points0 points ago

I think this is the third time this has been posted in the past two weeks.

[–]fuzzzx 0 points1 point ago

[–]p_quarles_ 0 points1 point ago

Someone should repost this in 4 days lolololol

[–]elbeejo 0 points1 point ago

Kevin Malone is one of the worst characters in the history of television.

[–]svalbard_is_my_name 0 points1 point ago

Scary. That guy looks a bit like Anders Behring Breivik.

[–]Bedtime_4_Bonzo -1 points0 points ago

I declare repost!

[–]Gashnor -2 points-1 points ago

I declare repost unnecessarily Instagrammed to have way too much of a red overtone.

[–]jimmypopjr 0 points1 point ago

This is the type of Kevin that reminds me that the Office is now full of cartoon characters instead of real people. Makes the show so much less engaging and funny.

[–]IAmJBear 1 point2 points ago

Episode 1 of this newest season was actually pretty intriguing. And I haven't said that about an Office episode in about 2+ seasons.

[–]Taisen91 0 points1 point ago

I get very nervous talking to pretty girls. Seriously, feel how sweaty my hand is.

[–]MJZMan -2 points-1 points ago

I'm assuming this was a science experiment? If so, we now have empirical proof that reposting an unfunny joke doesn't make it funny.
