Holy fuck I love this GIF.

It's actually one I have never seen before.

Incidentally, is it okay to just let the cat drink pool water?

[–]DesertEvil 83 points84 points ago

I think thats the only reason why he scared the fuck out of his pet: Just a bit diving, but then he sees that his cat is drinking the pool water. Immediately he jumps out of the water to safe the cat. That guy is not someone who wanted to scare his pet to death, that guy just rescued his cat.

[–]matthileo 61 points62 points ago

Like all those times he rescued his cat from those terrifying naps...

[–]Chazzey_dude 21 points22 points ago

But he was scared of Kitty Krueger.

[–]ryandaily 8 points9 points ago

It was A Nightmeow on Elm Street.

[–]ofcoursemyhorse 5 points6 points ago

this is totally what was happening

[–]Orange134 2 points3 points ago

And now the cat will never go near the pool again, it's really the ideal outcome.

[–]BoilerMaker11 10 points11 points ago

I saw somewhere on here that cats livers kidneys are so efficient that they can drink salt water and be fine, so I think pool water is fine

[–]dan2737 9 points10 points ago

Kidneys.

[–]buzzkill_aldrin 7 points8 points ago

But do those superefficient kidneys help them filter out pool chemicals?

[–]ShatterWulf 8 points9 points ago

Cats love chlorine bro.

[–]dylansan 2 points3 points ago

Chlorine is half of salt anyway, so it should be fine.

[–]CATSCEO2 1 point2 points ago

As long as the sodium hypochlorite reacts with something to form sodium chloride the cat should be fine.

[–]B12Mega -1 points0 points ago

Really well-kept pool water is quite clean, especially after the overnight filtration with no swimmers.

[–]Golden-Calf 1 point2 points ago

It's clean because you dump chemicals in the pool to kill algae and bacteria. The question isn't whether or not it's "clean", but whether or not those chemicals are harmful to cats.

[–]B12Mega -3 points-2 points ago

I'm a certified swimming pool operator with an engineering background (which means I took some mean chemistry classes), and there are many chemicals that I don't "dump" into my pool because proper chlorination and filtration will take care of most of it. But thanks, anyway.

EDIT: I'm also a CERTIFIED WATER TREATMENT FACILITY OPERATOR. I am the operator in charge of a small system, and the assistant operator in charge of a larger one. Most municipal systems will deliver water that comes out of YOUR FAUCET that contains between 0.5 and 3 parts-per-million FREE CHLORINE. Really well-kept pool water is not much at all different from this. After treatment and filtration, it's ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME FUCKING SHIT. But again, thanks anyway.

[–]GrumpyDoctorGrammar 2 points3 points ago

Calm the flying fuck down

[–]Golden-Calf -1 points0 points ago

Flying off the handle like that is a great way to make people respect your knowledge.

[–]liberalis 0 points1 point ago

Basically pool water is the same as tap water. So not harmful to cats.

[–]Number1AbeLincolnFan 3 points4 points ago

On the other hand, most house cats die from renal failure, so...

[–]Golden-Calf 1 point2 points ago

This is because they don't get enough water. Wild cats get most of their moisture from their prey, and they don't like to drink standing water (because it can have bacteria in it- they prefer creeks and streams). So when you have people keeping housecats and feeding them dry food and leaving out a dish of stagnant water all day, they don't get enough water and their kidneys eventually shut down. Almost all cats are chronically dehydrated.

I lost my first cat to renal failure. I read up on it and I'll never make those mistakes again.

[–]Carbon_Dirt 1 point2 points ago

This is why I just leave the faucet trickling; my cats almost never drink water from the bowl, but every time I turn on the sink they would come after the water like they'd been wandering the desert for a week. Our landlord pays water costs anyway, so win-win.

I've also seen fountain water bowls for cats and dogs, keeps it a little colder and circulates the water so they enjoy it more. Think eventually I'll have to invest in one of those.

[–]checkoutthisbreach 0 points1 point ago

My cats like to do that too. And apparently they prefer to drink water that isn't close to their food for some reason so I leave a glass dish or drinking glass of water out away from their food.

[–]Number1AbeLincolnFan 0 points1 point ago

That's actually just speculation and there's no evidence of it. There's also no evidence that a house cat on a wet food diet lives any longer than one on a dry food diet. Just FYI. I've done the research also.

The average lifespan of a feral cat is 3 years, whereas an indoor cat is 16, wet food or dry. That's over 5x as long as their bodies were designed for and that's pretty good. It may just be that their kidneys are their weakest point. Every animal has one. Humans' weak point is the heart.

[–]mtx 1 point2 points ago

BRB. Getting kidney transplant with cat.

[–]SeaTwertle 3 points4 points ago

Cats actually have remarkably powerful kidneys. So much so that they can drink sea water and filter out the salt.

[–]thumper242 -1 points0 points ago

Not quite as funny as I was hoping in reverse.

[–]KofOaks 175 points176 points ago

I had a persian cat who once had diarrhea / gas and was scared of its own farts. Problem is, whenever it farted it'd get scared, start running and fart more, so it was always catching up speed when it started running. Eventually it would calm down, find a nice spot to hide until the next fart, then shoot out running across the house while we could hear "fart fart fart fart fart fart".

It was like a cat rocket.

edit : typo.

[–]epithelia 41 points42 points ago

My dog is the same way. He's terrified of his own farts. It's like he can't understand that he can fart. Exactly the same scenario - scooting, hiding, farting, scooting. He also does it when someone else around him farts, or if he hears a sound that he thinks is a fart (like shifting on a leather chair, or something).

[–]Birdslapper 15 points16 points ago

[–]o0rly 6 points7 points ago

My dog is like the opposite whenever he hears someone farting he thinks it's himself.

[–]qovneob 4 points5 points ago

Mine is too. He also looks at his ass so its easy to blame him when i have company

[–]ShowMeYourPapers 2 points3 points ago

This needs to be a film.

[–]GreenBalconyChair 29 points30 points ago

Holy fuck, I almost had a heart attack from laughing.

[–]crookedparadigm 16 points17 points ago

I don't think I'd be able to contain myself if my cat did this. I'd be laughing for days.

[–]Endyo 15 points16 points ago

You'd think if the whole fart and speed increase kept going it would ultimately be traveling faster than the speed of light.

edit: Particat Accelerator

[–]Jjunior130 5 points6 points ago

that cat might have the potential to break the sound barrier if it keeps it up.

[–]KofOaks 9 points10 points ago

If you think about it, it would stop running as soon as it breaks the sound barrier because it wouldn't be scared of its farts anymore :)

[–]SirBenjamin 0 points1 point ago

I could not stop laughing. I believe I woke everyone up.

[–]WhereAreMyMinds 22 points23 points ago

Doesn't even look back. Just NOPE'd the fuck out of there

[–]toothpic_vic 2 points3 points ago

That's combat. Forget about investigating, just GTFO!

[–]mattledger 15 points16 points ago

Totally gonna sneakily place empty water bottles behind my cat this evening.

[–]prohibido 8 points9 points ago

Karma-whore: then we can say the cat was coincidentally there if that's what you're into.

[–]sfled 1 point2 points ago

On a t-shirt that slips across the floor, providing no traction and that patented "Road Runner Coyote running in mid-air" effect.

Edit for "Beep-beep."

[–]theodrixx 88 points89 points ago

[–]takemedrunkimhomeKEG 38 points39 points ago

I feel so bad for laughing, because you can clearly see that he is scared to death. But it's just so damn funny!!!

[–]hat_coat_door 13 points14 points ago

Same. I wonder if the dog ever stopped running.

[–]Human-Genocide 15 points16 points ago

Some say he is still.....ah fuck it.

[–]usescience 23 points24 points ago

The same thing happened to one of my dogs, except instead of an inflatable croc it was one of those retractable flexi leashes (like this). They have a thumb-button you can press to hold the length of the leash fixed, but the action of it is not too good and it will often extend/retract with the stopping pin half way down, resulting in a loud clicking sound. My dog was always terrified of this sound, and she had enough sense to know that it was coming from the leash she was attached to, so as a result she was always visibly nervous every time I walked her on it.

Well, one day as I was going down the hallway in my apartment building, I fumbled her leash. The floor of the hallway is stone tile, and the hallway is open and very long (the whole complex is one big building). The hard plastic of the leash's housing clattered on the floor with much racket, and promptly began retracting itself towards my poor startled dog. Terrified, she starts running full tilt down the hallway like Forrest Gump as this hard plastic leash gives chase, only inches behind her making loud clattering noises as it goes. She keeps running and running, while I meanwhile am involuntarily laughing so hard that I can barely breathe, let alone call out to her to stop. After a good 10-15 seconds I manage to collect myself enough to call out, and warily she stops and waits for me to come re-assure her. We just use regular leashes now.

[–]CATSCEO2 4 points5 points ago

There should be a subreddit for stories like these, I can't stop laughing.

[–]Eal12333 2 points3 points ago

So I hate the brilliant idea when I was younger to attach a stroller type thing to my dogs leash and ride in it, similar situation.

[–]--hundy 7 points8 points ago

The dog is afraid of the croc, it didn't do anything to itself.

[–]Endyo 22 points23 points ago

The cat is afraid of the bottle. It didn't do anything to itself.

[–]--hundy 0 points1 point ago

Good point, but that wasn't mine.

[–]DWild_1 46 points47 points ago

Is this the same skittish cat on page 2 right now?

Same OP, OP is a Karma Whore Master!

[–]darkon 14 points15 points ago

Cats are reddit karma factories.

[–]Anindoorcat 1 point2 points ago

mmmmmmm karma

[–]takemedrunkimhomeKEG 9 points10 points ago

I was wondering if this was the same troublesome cat haha

[–]slothenstein 4 points5 points ago

I'm not sure if it is, I found the video for plastic bag cat but the uploader doesn't have any other cat videos up.

[–]Kind_compliments 0 points1 point ago

I CAN SEEE YOOUU

[–]FemurHunter 19 points20 points ago

To be fair humans do this to ourselves alot too.

[–]TotallyFuckingMexico 5 points6 points ago

Good job I don't have a cat, my stash of perfectly placed empty bottles of water would be ruined.

[–]YouHighBro 4 points5 points ago

No traction. Time for a tire change.

[–]They_Know 3 points4 points ago

Strike!!!!

[–]mlmarco12 1 point2 points ago

damn it beat me to it

[–]CLASSYclassy 3 points4 points ago

Cats are so fucking paranoid.

[–]iamadogforreal 4 points5 points ago

Millions of years of evolution still can't prepare them from "empty water bottle near your tail."

[–]MrFace1 3 points4 points ago

It's been a half a year since it was posted anywhere and even longer since being posted in this subreddit.

[–]g_sand1204 1 point2 points ago

Wasn't too sure what this post was going to be about...didn't give it away in the title.

[–]Semajal 1 point2 points ago

Oh god my cat did something like this once. She nuzzles everything, and nuzzled something on my desk while in my lap, can't remember what but it rocked back, then fell forwards and bopped her on the head. I got clawed rather badly there -_-

[–]Kuskesmed 1 point2 points ago

The way the cat is moving his tail shows it is already anxious.

[–]qovneob 0 points1 point ago

I dont think "anxious" is the right word for it. My cat used to do that whenever I'd leave a shirt or towel on the floor. She'd go prone like that and usually spaz out and run around and dive back on it. It seemed more playful than anxious.

[–]Kuskesmed 0 points1 point ago

'Fired up' then :)

[–]Feyndude 1 point2 points ago

This situation appears to have been engineered.

[–]Hoxton 0 points1 point ago

ST-RIKE!

[–]mxzrxp 1 point2 points ago

looks too setup

[–]lazybeef 0 points1 point ago

That awkward moment when your two posts involving the same cat are separated by one link.

[–]cangetenough 1 point2 points ago

And gets the spare!

[–]stevietwoslice 0 points1 point ago

It's nice to see that the cartoon boogidee-woogidee-woogidee runaway move has real life applications as well.

[–]InsaneLampshade 0 points1 point ago

More like the human that placed the bottles there after the cat sat down scared it.

Imagine kicking your foot in bed at night and making a 5 gallon jug of water fall off your bed and onto the floor, one that definitely wasn't there when you got into bed. You'd shit yourself too!

[–]m0gul6 0 points1 point ago

That's some really good reaction time, cat. You should play Starcraft

[–]fosiacat 0 points1 point ago

my dog does that all the time. he won't go near my skateboard anymore, because he's knocked it over and scared the shit outta himself so many times. same with the broom.

[–]MAYBE_IM_NAKED 0 points1 point ago

For some reason I love these clips of dogs and cats scaring themselves by accident.

[–]lizgger15 0 points1 point ago

I heard Looney Tunes chase music in my head

[–]bicyclemom 1 point2 points ago

In my mind, while watching this, I heard the Fred Flintstone running sound.

[–]Slappybug -1 points0 points ago

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepooooooooooooost

[–]writergeek 0 points1 point ago

I looove the cartoonish, running in place. Keep your furniture polished, people!

[–]lumanderthon 0 points1 point ago

well done on the title.

[–]AviciiFTW 0 points1 point ago

Fright or flight.

[–]uSeeWhatiDidThere 1 point2 points ago

There was that split second where the cats' legs were moving but he didn't move.
The only thing I thought of was When Scooby and Shaggy run away from the ghosts they do the exact same thing.

[–]d0n0v4n98 0 points1 point ago

Damn, op. This title sucks, I would expect this to be the title on a YouTube video.

[–]BadSister1984 0 points1 point ago

How do people capture these once-in-a-moment videos? It seems so contrived.

[–]DesertPunked 0 points1 point ago

No you're completely wrong. The cat is using his tail to knock down the bottle on purpose, and let me explain to you why.

He's initiating his launch control sequence, and the speed at which the bottle falls is his timer as to when to go. Just as you can see in the gif, the Cat did a wonderful job which only a medium amount of paw spin.

With enough practice this cat could master this sequence and have absolutely no paw spin.

[–]Kooops 0 points1 point ago

I tell you what, that was some 4 paw pulling power to the ground. Outrun a 4wd Chevrolet.

[–]damp_panties 0 points1 point ago

I had a physics problem about this gif. If a cat is laying on a shirt and knocks over one of three bottles in turn scaring itself, what does the coefficient of friction of the shirt have to be in order for all three bottles to be knocked over. I forget the answer.

[–]794613825 0 points1 point ago

3... 2... 1... Missile launched.

[–]orost 0 points1 point ago

No, it's a launch mechanism.

[–]KingNick 1 point2 points ago

STRIKE!

[–]SHITKEEPSFALLING 0 points1 point ago

In my mind: the Hanna-Barbera bongo sound effect.

[–]summerlover4369 0 points1 point ago

So clearly set up. Still funny though!

[–]hoyfkd 0 points1 point ago

The cat runs like a real-life Hanna barbera cartoon!

[–]misanthr0p1c 0 points1 point ago

I love how many times its paws slip.

[–]weasleeasle 0 points1 point ago

Nah he was waiting for the starters marks.

[–]Black_Apalachi 0 points1 point ago

Oh god this just sent me cackling manically. The cartoon-like moment where the smooth surface causes it to momentarily run on the spot is brilliant.

Rarely do I save a gif but I'm having this one.

[–]momox 0 points1 point ago

The bottle seems to fall the other way but it doesn't

[–]DenizenOfHi 0 points1 point ago

I don't think Lindsey Lohan would eat so much damn yogurt though...

[–]Corrupt9930 1 point2 points ago

Just a few questions before anything else, 1) Why is it resting on a T-Shirt when there's a perfectly good carpet about two feet behind it? 2) Why are the bottles there? The rest of the place looks clean, so it can't be just some slob leaving shit around. 3) Why do I have the overwhelming feeling that the cat is trippin'?

That being said, OH MY GAWD THAT KITTEH LAWLAWL SCAREDY CAT.

That is all.

[–]DrJeckylMrHyde 1 point2 points ago

Few things funnier than a cat without traction

[–]GroovingPict 0 points1 point ago

cats are retarded and useless

[–]NoNotHimAgain 1 point2 points ago

"Feet don't fail me now!"

[–]elevenothree 0 points1 point ago

who is constantly recording their cats all day long?

[–]HerpinDerpster 0 points1 point ago

All I could think of, when viewing this image, was a sound like this.

[–]xmagneticx 0 points1 point ago

stinkin cats

[–]R88SHUN 0 points1 point ago

I have a pet squirrel. He does this shit all the time.

[–]cheapdvds 1 point2 points ago

The cat just turned on turbo.

[–]Scooter22Sorci 0 points1 point ago

Not a bad awd launch...nice amount of leg spin

[–]SoulsUnbounded 0 points1 point ago

Heh. Scaredy cat.

[–]Smugjester 0 points1 point ago

Slo mo PLOX

[–]Dnd42 0 points1 point ago

hahahaha!! fantastic

[–]Karmey2 0 points1 point ago

Cat bowling.

[–]AlexCutter 0 points1 point ago

Up voted for the concise, no-nonsense title.

[–]Kyser7513 0 points1 point ago

I read the title as "scat cares itself". I was dissapointed

[–]Thezombieman 0 points1 point ago

I often wonder how much time do people spend filming thier cats just to get shots like these.

[–]liberalis 0 points1 point ago

[–]Ru5k1 1 point2 points ago

Am i the only one who noticed that the owner clearly kept putting empty water bottles behind the cat until the cat hit one of them with its tail.

[–]Shatophiliac 2 points3 points ago

[–]Peachfuzz207 -2 points-1 points ago

Haha what a pussy!

[–]Defiant47 -3 points-2 points ago

lol

[–]arialth -1 points0 points ago

This was clearly an elaborate setup. The shirt was placed so the cat would lay on it and also provide friction for the eventual skittering. Then, once the kitty had fallen into the trap, bottles were placed near his tail.

Entrapment.

[–]atlusblue -4 points-3 points ago

catsized

[–]ChimpaWompa 0 points1 point ago

Perhaps it noticed something utterly delicious off into the distance?
