    The looks of a person are largely based on genetics, something you personally have no control over. Probably the behavior the girl exhibited too. Why wouldn't you care about someone being exposed to enough psychological torment that they'll actually commit suicide, based on something they have essentially no control over?

    In all probability, we don't really care because of the amount of shit things we become exposed on the internet make us all desensitized. I'm not sure that is a good thing.

    I know these words will go unheard but I was bullied my whole life for having a muscle disease which obviously I couldn't help. Both my brother and I both have this disease and were teased, pushed down and walked on.

    I had to watch my younger brother try and take his own life because of this. Bullying is not ok. And most of you who are making jokes about this, put yourself in their shoes. Where everyone hated you and made fun of you. Yes she started it by the picture. But think about those of us who did nothing (like the boy) and yet were driven to that.

    Second, who is the guy on the right? Provide some proof that he:

    1) killed himself, and

    2) did so because he thought he was ugly

    Because I've seen that guy's image all over the place and never once heard that he killed himself, much less because he was ugly.

    Third, even if ^ that's true, then your claim of "internet hypocrisy" still doesn't stand. That's not our fault. That's what happens when someone in a newsroom decides what story makes the front page and which one gets bumped back to the bottom of page 14. We're not condoning violence here, and none of us knew about this girl until she was already gone.

    We need to go back to a time where people who killed themselves didn't get immortalized as heroes. My best friend killed himself but he wasn't attention whoring online beforehand, so 95% people on his memorial page were people who actually knew and loved him.

    Nothing makes me rage more online than seeing people jump on the sympathy bandwagon for dead people they've never met. I think most of them don't understand suicide and think it was something that a victim was forced into. Personally it was even hard for me to mourn my friend's suicide, because I know it was exactly what he wanted.

    I think it's totally unfair that people will pay more attention to an person perceived as attractive than to one who isn't, of course that's true and it sucks. But then implying (which I don't think the post is, but some of the comments are) that because of that the girl's suffering is less important because she got more attention afterwards isn't great either. I mean the fact is that they were both bullied, they both died, and nothing that happens afterwards will help either of them. Rather than saying 'oh look she's famous on the internet and we don't even know his name' surely we should stop being negative towards them both - by complaining that she got attention - something that she was bullied about and killed herself over and complaining that no one cares about him, because he's not as attractive as her - I mean firstly we clearly care a bit, seeing as this picture exists, and secondly, maybe we could just stop talking about him not being attractive, if he killed himself over being bullied about it? I guess what I'm saying is, they both matter, and what they both went through is really really bad, and rather than saying one matters over the other we should be concerned about the bullies and how to deal with it happening again.

    The media likes to pick and choose who their poster children are, the internet is no different when thousands of minds gather under the same roof and think alike. When it was Jessi Slaughter doing the same thing and feeling the wrath of 4chan, nobody cared either. She didn't kill herself, but the means were the same according to the consensus I've gathered.

    Natural selection if you ask me, Darwinism was never without its disagreement because people think they can interfere with the course of nature, but in the end he gets the last say. I've never been opposed to suicide and I never will be. A basic human right should be the option to cease existing if one so chooses, it's obvious that people need to revisit the philosophy of Jack Kevorkian. People who commit suicide choose a permanent solution to a temporary problem, but the keyword is "Choice".

    Dad's gone. Like I said, natural selection. Some people just weren't cut out for it. The internet isn't very logical with understanding that she wasn't responsible for her dad, but w/e.

    In this case, I think the hypocrisy can be summed up in one word: Looks. It's not just the foreveralone's on the internet, the news is the same way. If I died in the same explosion with a female, my chances are somewhere between jack and shit of being mentioned when compared to her. Another example: The Dark Knight incident..How many of the male victims were given attention, including the ones who died attempting to save their significant other's lives?

    Secondly you claim "looks" have everything to do with how much media attention something gets, but then turn it into a gender thing. So are you claiming all women are considered good looking? Because I'm sure if you & someone who looks like Honey Boo Boos mom got into an explosion you would get equal media coverage.

    You know, in Canada the week Brandon Crisp went missing 2 native girls went missing. Brandon Crisp created a MEDIA SHITSTORM up here, but there was not a single word about the girls. In fact, there are so many native women gone missing in Canada (around 600) the UN is currently investigating. There is rarely anything in the mainstream media about it, ever. So you need to sort your logic out.

    Whether the person exists or not doesn't matter, internet suicides happen all the time..I've been on MyDeathSpace for about 5 years, and DocumentingReality for about a year. They're like any other news in the media that either gets sensationalized or ignored. People pick and choose what they want to care about and disregard the rest.

    Looks are one thing, the dramatics about the report (Story, pictures, videos, etc) and who's complaining the loudest also contributes to what gets run. The Kelly Thomas incident (Local to me..) was ignored for a very long time until the right people who could scream the loudest called for justice, including his dad. This was over a year ago, the trials are just starting for the cops.

    I know, it just seemed as though you were suggesting women get more media attention, while this isn't necessarily true. Jack Reese, Tyler Clementi & Jamey Rodemeyer were all boys who committed suicide due to bullying, and none of them would be considered classically good looking. In fact most people would probably describe them as "nerdy looking." They still got plenty of media attention. The original meme is trying to prove prejudice where there is none...

    It takes the internet for people to "care".

    Just recently in my town a girl the same age committed suicide and of course family and friends and the rest of the town care, but sadly it does all blow over eventually. No one except for people closest to the victim actually care, and for all those people out there who have now gone all "OMGGG, THE POOR GIRL" yes, it is sad. I feel really bad I couldn't have done anything but most of the people who are "caring" are only trying to follow the trend. And yes, this suicide is a trend. People are giving into popular things and just like anything else, people should care about it but they don't.
