  • cross-posts from /r/askscience are encouraged

  • No more mentioning brand-name soft drinks. If you really have to bring up the fizzy goodness (and do you? really?) Then "cola" or "orange drank" will do fine

  • Don't be a dick. If your submission title is offensive then you're doing it wrong

  • The word "poop" is banned

Little known about Felix's jump, was the plan -- which succeed -- to have the jump coincide with a solar flare emitted from the surface of the sun.

The light particles or 'photons' hit Felix during his descent and briefly accelerated him to light speed. This, coupled with the gravitational pull of the earth, helped him surpassed light speed.

After he was accelerated by the particles, he observed them. In accordance with Quantum Physical Laws, once observed the particles turned into waves -- and simply passed through Felix no longer able to affect him.

Without the light particles to push him, he quickly decelerated to terminal velocity (approximately 125mph based on his posture during descent) before landing.

So what you're saying is that he was surfing on them. That makes sense as he would have been traveling faster than light when he was doing full rail cutbacks or a badass tailslide.

Don Lemon also said later that he went faster than the sound of speed!
