Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you.

[–]Timmyp17 387 points388 points ago

Listen, if I went around, saying I was an emperor, just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

[–]spiral527 272 points273 points ago

DID YOU SEE THAT? He just repressed me!

[–]SunAndCigarrets 227 points228 points ago

Oh! Come and see the violence inherent in the system! HELP! HELP! I'm being repressed!

BLOODY PEASANT

[–]ienjoyedit 99 points100 points ago

Oh, what a giveaway!

[–]ninjahippo93 73 points74 points ago

You saw that didn't ya? You saw him repression me!

[–]juvegirlbe 51 points52 points ago

Oh shut up Dennis!

[–]neanderhummus 50 points51 points ago

Aah, now we see the violence inherent in the system!

[–]Robert_Cannelin 34 points35 points ago

You saw it, didn't you?

[–]superwinner 41 points42 points ago

I didn't know you were called Dennis!

[–]stahlgrau 40 points41 points ago

You didn't bother to find out, now did you?!

[–]deaddman 14 points15 points ago

Randall would be disappointed in you guys.

http://xkcd.com/16/

[–]dogboyboy 35 points36 points ago

Yeah, Monty Python was all about originality. They never repeated themselves. And now for something completely different...

[–]vegetaman 14 points15 points ago

It's...

[–]grubas 5 points6 points ago

A man with a tape recorder up his brother's uncle's second son's nose.

[–]badphish94 0 points1 point ago

Wouldn't his brother's uncle be his own uncle?

The........ Larch

[–]King_of_Swamp_Castle 0 points1 point ago

Number 3, the larch

[–]dalore 0 points1 point ago

They don't need to repeat themselves since everyone in reddit does it for them.

[–]HakeemAbdullah 31 points32 points ago

I knew some person would post this.

Listen, theres no reason to act as if you're some sort of savior of comedy. These are quotes that make people laugh and they want to repeat them. LET THEM DO IT.

[–]iratusamuru 4 points5 points ago

It always amuses me how the people going around telling others how to correctly be funny rarely have any sort of personable humor.

[–]Second_Foundationeer 0 points1 point ago

The crossers of t's and the dotters of i's don't seem to be able to come up with their literature you say?

[–]iratusamuru -1 points0 points ago

Not in the least. I say that those who go out of their way to accuse others of violating some sort of perceived comic law rarely have a sense of humor that mixes well with other people.

[–]noirthesable 5 points6 points ago

While I'm not too much of a fan of repeating punchlines either, my biggest complaint about that strip: if you really want to produce unexpected humour, at least do something that doesn't ruin the mood completely and utterly.

[–]Nebu 0 points1 point ago

For a moment there, I thought he was about to transition to the ministry of silly walks.

[–]itsme_timd 16 points17 points ago

MB12 FTW.

[–]EightBravoBravoDelta 5 points6 points ago

And there we are, right back to a two party system.

[–]Venge 6 points7 points ago

Tart/Bint 2012

[–]raging_asshole 20 points21 points ago

"Moistened bint" is my favorite pejorative for woman that I look upon less than favorably.

[–]Fiery-Heathen 0 points1 point ago

heh heh.... moistened.... bint....

[–]jackelfrink 3 points4 points ago

Listen, if I went around, saying I was an emperor, just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Maybe not http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Norton

[–]ObidiahWTFJerwalk 0 points1 point ago

Bound to do better than our current system.

[–]GunsOfThem 0 points1 point ago

watery tart threw a sword at you.

This is the best part of the entire movie.

[–]Farmerj0hn 88 points89 points ago

Haha, nice, you took all the lines from this thread and put them into a video, very cool.

[–]theWonderslug 17 points18 points ago

the best part is that i went back in time and posted it before anyone posted anything....then, going further back in time, i made a movie built around these comments

[–]HeresMyTrollFace 3 points4 points ago

Yeah, stab that joke! Make sure it's good and dead!

[–]King_of_Swamp_Castle 2 points3 points ago

Did you kill all those guards?

Ugh...oh, yes. Sorry.

They cost 50 pounds each!

[–]basec0m 25 points26 points ago

The world needs more farcical aquatic ceremonies.

[–]centipedeseverywhere 1 point2 points ago

[–]Das_Boot86 77 points78 points ago

"Old woman!"

"Man!"

"Old Man, sorry. What knight live in that castle over there?"

"I'm thirty seven."

"What?"

"I'm thirty seven -- I'm not old!"

"Well, I can't just call you 'Man'."

"Well, you could say 'Dennis'."

"Well, I didn't know you were called 'Dennis.'"

"Well, you didn't bother to find out, did you?"

"I did say sorry about the 'old woman,' but from the behind you looked--"

"What I object to is you automatically treat me like an inferior!"

"Well, I AM king..."

[–]how_about_pancakes 39 points40 points ago

Oh, King, eh? Oh, very nice... And how'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers! By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society! If there's ever gonna be any progress in our society... Dennis there is some lovely filth down here!

[–]MrJacobi33 7 points8 points ago

"Well I didn't vote for you."

MOISTENED BINT & WATERY TART 2012

[–]fuckashley 18 points19 points ago

Growing up, dad's email notification noise on his computer was the arrow noise and Patsy saying "Message for you sir"

[–]kiljaeden 4 points5 points ago

That's exactly what my Android's incoming text alert sound is right this very minute.

Also, my girlfriend's name is Ashley.

I'm very uncomfortable right now.

[–]thewifething 2 points3 points ago

Please tell me where you got that sound, as I want it for my phone now.

[–]jtstrocel 6 points7 points ago

[–]kiljaeden 0 points1 point ago

That's pretty much what I use.

[–]fuckashley 0 points1 point ago

Lol what a world we live in

[–]BackForMoreKarma 0 points1 point ago

I have it, too. My 6yr old also found the most incredible sound byte in MP soundboard app - "we've got lumps around the back". Try it, it is so funny :)

[–]milleribsen 0 points1 point ago

Mine is Tim Gunn saying "bitch slap that bitch"

I'm not really sure why I shared that....

[–]tedtutors 0 points1 point ago

I had that one. And shutdown was, "I bet your gay!" "No I'm not."

[–]fuckashley 1 point2 points ago

hahaha I'm jealous

[–]0011110000110011 0 points1 point ago

That is also my father's.

[–]fuckashley 0 points1 point ago

Our fathers > everyone elses'

[–]BegginForBacon 1 point2 points ago

What the hell. So my dad's not the only one who does this?

[–]Hypponaut 97 points98 points ago

For some reason, monty python is an auto-upvote for me

[–]Canucklehead99 20 points21 points ago

Mostly because they are fucking brilliant.

[–]Mr_fidge 52 points53 points ago

For some reason

You never need a reason to upvote Monty Python.

[–]Crossfox17 2 points3 points ago

When I first saw this I thought it was actually a reference to the actual Lady Avalon from Arthurian lore.

[–]Kodyak 1 point2 points ago

Me too, I know more about Arthurian lore than Monty Python it seems :(

[–]werdan 1 point2 points ago

Heh. I read your comment, looked at the title and found I had already upvoted this post without consciously doing it. So yep, me too.

[–]Drlongbong 36 points37 points ago

Well I didnt vote for ya.

[–]uhmerikin 17 points18 points ago

You don't vote for kings.

[–]superwinner 9 points10 points ago

Well how'd you become king then?

[–]42MaXxX42 10 points11 points ago

My god, make this a t-shirt.

[–]NoLongerNeeded 1 point2 points ago

I'd wear it on election day.

[–]easy_tiger 10 points11 points ago

If I went around saying I was an emperor, just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

[–]E-rye 4 points5 points ago

we watched this clip in my medieval history course today.

[–]Bad_assness 5 points6 points ago

One day, lad, this will all be yours.

What? The curtains?

[–]airborneANDrowdy 0 points1 point ago

I love that one.

[–]nintendo65 5 points6 points ago

[–]airborneANDrowdy 5 points6 points ago

HELP! HELP! I'm being repressed!

[–]Codename3C 4 points5 points ago

But what about the peoples front of Judea?

[–]Hit-Enter-Too-Soon 4 points5 points ago

Splitters.

[–]Zuijj 5 points6 points ago

BEHOLD! THE SWORD OF POWER!

EXCALIBUR!

[–]jaredpatton173 1 point2 points ago

At least one person gets the reference.

[–]numanoid 0 points1 point ago

My favorite thing about the poster is that the sword is a slightly stylized version of the one used in the movie Excalibur, not some other source.

[–]fuckteachforamerica 4 points5 points ago

And now we see the violence inherent in the system!

[–]SenatorBlutarsky 3 points4 points ago

Some Moistened Bint 2012!

[–]18-32 3 points4 points ago

"Old woman!" "Man!"

[–]that057guy 2 points3 points ago

"Old Man, sorry. What knight live in that castle over there?" "I'm thirty seven." "What?" "I'm thirty seven -- I'm not old!"

[–]Quinn474 3 points4 points ago

[–]frecklybutnotginger 1 point2 points ago

Every time I see this stuff I get a little excited that they may be making Peter David's Knight Life. Great series of books. Then I realize that it's just a Monty Python reference and then I can't get the Camelot song out of my head.

[–]Rielos 0 points1 point ago

YES!

[–]MrShucks 1 point2 points ago

Oh lady! Lady of the lake!

[–]cameltoad 1 point2 points ago

I believe she was called a "Watery Tart"

[–]schattenteufel 1 point2 points ago

or a "Moistoned Bint"

[–]elad661 -1 points0 points ago

I thought it was "Damp Whore"

[–]psychroclasm 1 point2 points ago

I'm going to go ahead and re-do this for 2016. I'll get the karma next time.

[–]s-mores 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, well, you know how Arthur promised to come back at the dawn of England's darkest hour? That was at the beginning of WW2. He did come back.

Took him weeks to get out of the mental hospital.

[–]somefuzzypants 0 points1 point ago

havnt seen this movie in a little while. may have to watch it again this weekend

[–]FaerieStories 0 points1 point ago

Which movie? There have been a ton of movies based on Arthurian mythology.

Where is the "buy now" link original artist? This is how the tubes work!

[–]Chupavida 1 point2 points ago

Note for the skeptical: they don't expect to wield supreme executive power just because a watery tart threw a sword at them. My understanding of the platform is that they instead see the farcical aquatic ceremony ("a moistened bint lobbing a scimitar" as one described it) as evidence of a mandate from the masses.

They hope to translate that mandate to effective governance through the implementation of an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We, the citizens, would take turns acting as a sort of executive officer for the week. But all the decisions of that officer would have to be ratified at a special biweekly meeting. By a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs, but by a two-thirds majority in the case of more serious outward-facing matters such as proposals for bombing Iran or selling guns to Mexican drug cartels.

The goal, of course, is to mitigate the repression and violence inherent in the system.

[–]MrDoofus 0 points1 point ago

no Doraleous, this is the zepher blade.

[–]Sparky2697 0 points1 point ago

it appears to be depicting a sene for the king Arthur myth, I think it's the part at the end when Arthurs knight throws excalaber into the Lake and the lady of the Lake catches it

[–]RichardNigson 1 point2 points ago

Oh there's some lovely filth over here!

[–]thegreggler 0 points1 point ago

Can someone design this as a facebook cover photo?

[–]BobbyMcPrescott 0 points1 point ago

I don't know... My friend Blane met one of them once and I don't think time has been good to their party. Most of them gave away their swords years ago. They get pretty clingy without their former purpose.

[–]ThunderAssDiamond 0 points1 point ago

[–]juancamdingo 1 point2 points ago

Thanks for the new Wallpaper!

[–]Crossfox17 0 points1 point ago

Lady Avalon for president 518 AD!

Edit: So I just realized that this is a Monty Python reference. Now, I think it is fair to say that most people think Monty Python is fairly nerdy. That being said, I didn't recognize this as a reference to Monty Python, but rather Alfred Lord Tennyson's Idylls of the King as well as other older works on Arthurian lore. This constitutes a level of nerditude on an entirely different level.

[–]stahlgrau 4 points5 points ago

True. But then Eric Idle says "strange women lying in ponds..."

[–]supergai 0 points1 point ago

yes, but in monty python and the holy grail, a skeptical citizen refers to her as "a lady in a pond" because he doesn't feel arthur needs to be king.

[–]Giantpanda602 1 point2 points ago

I know it's from Monty Python, but it reminded me of Doraleous and Associates. It's a hilarious webshow, so I'd recommend that you check it out. Also, they're trying to bring it back if they can get enough support.
