Engineers are not the same as people who work in IT.

[–]imakitty 146 points147 points ago

I was going to say that doesn't look like a sad closet with racks of computers and crushed dreams at all.

[–]muyuu 4 points5 points ago

The term IT has evolved into something coming out of IT Crowd, but it used to be quite generic. Basically someone working in Information Technologies (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering and also all around programmers without formal qualifications and "computer people").

[–]moodog72 49 points50 points ago

IT does not now, nor has it ever, covered electrical engineers. One builds the chips on a computer, the other loads software and installs them.

[–]davidzlocker3 5 points6 points ago

Wouldn't that fall under computer engineering? (Legitimate question...cause I don't know.)

[–]Propane 11 points12 points ago

Yeah. I got a CpE degree and we did more low voltage dc stuff and logic gates etc. The EEs at our college did all the high power and controls type stuff. There's a fair amount of overlap, though.

[–]Jerky_McYellsalot 0 points1 point ago

I'm aware of at least one top-ten engineering program in the USA that officially combines it into computer and electrical engineering.

[–]Propane 0 points1 point ago

I'm sure it happens, but that's not how my school did it. I'd also guess it's promoted as a combination of the two, and not just called EE, because the distinction is definitely still there - they are very different specialties.

[–]relet 5 points6 points ago

Where I studied, computer engineering was specifically designed to be the interface between computer science and electrical engineering.

We always were able to pretend we were more versed in the other domain.

[–]Manifesto13 1 point2 points ago

Most of my friends in EE have gotten jobs in the IT sector. Just my 2cents.

false

[–]dilutedmorals -1 points0 points ago

So true.

IT != Engineer.

[–]absentmindedjwc 38 points39 points ago

Indeed. Some in IT may be engineers, but not all engineers are in IT.

[–]ProfessorPoopyPants 4 points5 points ago

That is clearly an AC power lab. Look at those oscilloscopes!

[–]Grant638 73 points74 points ago

You're a big fat phony.

  1. This is a repost, so you didn't go anywhere.

  2. Your title makes no sense. Engineers and IT are two completely different things.

[–]hayden_evans 15 points16 points ago

Ugh I hate it when people equate engineers to IT. It's an insult!

[–]Tier4 13 points14 points ago

It's illegal in Canada...

[–]cobra10101010 6 points7 points ago

sorry

[–]nt-cmplt 34 points35 points ago

Did you also post this image to the "I fucking love science" facebook group last Friday?

[–]Ntopper 29 points30 points ago

I can't seem to find the science part of that facebook group. Is there a mistake?

[–]gigitrix 23 points24 points ago

[–]ReferentiallySeethru 5 points6 points ago

I was thinking how pretentious that article was until I saw the URL. I had thought maddox stopped making posts!

[–]alphanovember 7 points8 points ago

He's still going strong and even makes videos that troll (as in, the original definition of trolling, not the beaten-to-death one of today) people who don't know it's mostly satire. Seeing and hearing him is immensely funny.

Also, he's a redditor. Though I guess that's not a very special title to claim anymore.

[–]plazmatyk -1 points0 points ago

But I'm a redditor and I like to think I'm special...

[–]nt-cmplt 2 points3 points ago

Hehe. Nope, no mistake.

[–]elsestarwrk 2 points3 points ago

I feel they may have been inspired by this Dilbert strip

[–]cincodenada 0 points1 point ago

Quite possible, one of the profs that teaches in this room often is rather fond of Dilbert. He showed us The Knack in class once.

[–]Louisflakes 14 points15 points ago

This is reposted from a facebook group

[–]McVader 13 points14 points ago

maddox gon' be mad.

[–]kinnadian 2 points3 points ago

I as well read the 3rd most upvoted parent comment in this thread, which was posted over an hour before yours.

[–]SEEMYHINEYNICENSHINY 7 points8 points ago

There's this one place that sells little cups of juice, and if you hold them out to the engineers they will fly over and land on you, and drink the juice out of the little cups you're holding.

[–]DaRtYLeiya 12 points13 points ago

IT =/= Engineering

[–]Blackops606 3 points4 points ago

I remember getting yelled at when I knocked on the glass at a chimp exhibit. I didn't mind though, he came up and matched hands with me on the glass.

[–]absentmindedjwc 5 points6 points ago

Not so much easily frightened... more like annoyed.

[–]rhetorical_twix 2 points3 points ago

Try introducing a female into the lab. They will climb up on the desks and start flinging feces at the walls.

[–]38B0DE 2 points3 points ago

Very relevant

[–]XeroPeace 3 points4 points ago

Inform the engineers that they should build refineries flanges and piping to be worked on, not 2 inches off of a drum or tower.

[–]BlueArrowUpYourAss 2 points3 points ago

At least this has never been posted before, especially recently.

[–]kush_domain 0 points1 point ago

This was an old Dilbert comic.

[–]liamjmc 0 points1 point ago

I'm an alcoholic and my habits just made the foint page. I'm by far the best example to not promote this.

[–]expert02 0 points1 point ago

It's actually an exhibit for the Engineers, a species in the covenant.

[–]Scopelitist -1 points0 points ago

I was expecting a collection of scary ass clowns...

[–]hbomb1129 -1 points0 points ago

This was on the front page a few days ago.

[–]gattofila 0 points1 point ago

And stop trying to smuggle them food! You'll upset their delicate tummies.

[–]darkrai9292 0 points1 point ago

This is from the Dilbert comics

[–]peewinkle -1 points0 points ago

Meh. The Fishbowl at the U of M, Ann Arbor, has had signs like this up since the early 90's.

[–]soothslayer 1 point2 points ago

[–]therightclique -5 points-4 points ago

Idiots have posted these lame signs for over 20 years. It wasn't funny then, and it isn't funny now.

The Engineer is pray to meny foul beasts such as the sneaky spy and more resently the Senrty Buster

[–]LinuxMage 0 points1 point ago

Correction Follows

"The Engineer is prey to many foul beasts such as the sneaky spy and more recently, the Sentry Buster"
